maybe when they add more commonly used services (netflix, stan, kayo, disney plus) i might look into it

I don't see the point. If it was discounted, then maybe a good thing. Prime UI is awful anyway, so to convolute it with other things just seems repulsive. If I was to get hayu for example, I would personally rather launch the individual app provided it is available on google/apple TV when it is the same price anyway.

And the ads on a paid service at the beginning of each video that I need to skip. WTF?

Sorry, I'll just stick with Netflix.

    • Paramount+ doesn't offer apps other than phones. I'm not a fan of casting so adding it to another service like AppleTV or PrimeVideo becomes convenient.

      • I have the Paramount app installed on my Vodafone TV.

      • I just searched the play store on Android tv and it's there

        • Considering it's available on android phones this shouldn't be a shock. I'm not buying a device just to use Paramount+ when I already have 2 smart TVs and every major console. It's much easier to subscribe through another service which does have an app.

            @SirFlibbled:

Paramount+ doesn't offer apps other than phones

I didn't tell you to buy a device, I simply corrected your false statement.

            • @dmbminaret: I guess I should have been more specific and said "They only have an app which works on iOS and Android devices, not limited to phone and tablets but also any other devices capable of running android apps"

It's not like they have made more than 2 apps here - one for android and one for iOS. There is no app for Xbox, Playstation, most major TV brands like most major streamers have done..

Actually not true Paramount+ is available across a variety of platforms and devices.

I trialled Paramount+ for Android TV on my Nvidia Shield (Android) TV. Not a well developed app, but worked. No casting necessary,

The idea of subscribing to Paramount+ channel from within Prime Video is not a bad idea, if the native app is not working properly on your device.

        • Seems based on everyone's examples the 'many platforms' includes Android devices exclusively. Doesn't seem too varied to me.

I use the 'Just Watch' app as a wrapper for all my streaming services… Works really well and launches the corresponding provider app when you select something to watch.

    • +2

      JustWatch is awesome

I'll just keep my €12 server slot in Amsterdam and watch Plex.

Amazon purchased MGM a few months back. Hopefully they merge their content for free instead of charging $5 a month.

  • So the deal here is 7 days trial?

  • hayu has possibly the worst app ever written - across iOS, Apple TV - even just standalone via web.

Anything that gives you that catalogue without actually using their apps is a win!

Time will tell if the prime implementation of hayu is plagued by the same dramas.

  • I was thinking of changing my sub to AppleTV (has some better quality video and sound) but might switch to Prime Video.

I share my account with my Dad and he's not the best at tech but wants the Soccer. He already had Prime Video so this will be one less device he needs to log into and use to watch it.

    • Nope, wont do sports.. so it's not worth it.
