  • Anyone know how you can add additional internal hard drive?

I have 4 already and all the ports are full. Is there a way to add more?

      Pcie to Sata
      Hard drive dock etc

    • If you have a spare PCI slot? Otherwise off an internal USB header.

      • No I ran out of the PCI slot on my motherboard.

        • New motherboard?

Yeah my bad, i jsut assume most poeple are like me and have like 5 of those things in a box. but great point.

    • Why do you have so many internal drives?
      Better off running a NAS

      • My nvme takes up two ports. 1 SD for boot and other hard drive

SMR in case anyone is wondering

    • Thanks! I was wondering that just as you posted.

    • SMR = Bad?

not bad but less preferred. google SMR vs CMR

      • No. Not unless you intend to use the drive in a NAS, or with ZFS.

    SMR is bad.

  • Can it be used with an xbox series s with an usb adapter? Just looking for a affordable external storage option for my xbox with max performance.

  • So tempting to grab 4 to replace plex servers current 4 x 4GB drives, but thinking to hold out and grab 4 x 10 or 12GB instead so future proof for a longer period. 🤔 Anyone running 4 x 8GB on their plex or waited and got a bigger drive? It's tempting coz of the price. Thanks in advance for the advice.

      I run 4x 4tb drives (Seagate SMR, same as these), 2x 2tb b WD Greens. 1 x 4tb WD purple parity.
I'd suggest waiting for a more decent price on some iron wolfs or WD Red pros. They are better designed to run in groups, CMR & have a higher RPM which means longer write time.
I had quite a lot of issues with my Seagate SMR drives when moving stuff around between them tanked their write speeds.

I also run a desktop with a bunch of cheap old drives to mirror my server and backup to Backblaze personal, actually grabbed one of these for that purpose.
