please let me know of the mistakes.

How many are we looking for?

Don't worry mate, and need to mention it, everyone on OzB loves pointing out mistakes, it's what some live for.

Been hooked on this game for weeks. I have the physical version, and every time I think of taking the disc out, I'm like "nahh…one more run". With the new "suspend the cycle" feature, you can finally pause the game mid run. Switch to another game, turn off your console, what have you. And jump right back to where you were last. I cannot recommend this game highly enough.

Let's talk difficulty. This game is challenging, but it is not unfair. What you quickly need to get is that it is all about risk vs rewards. Pay attention, read the tips and press "Options" to watch the video tutorials. And learn to adapt, building a kit as you go through your run. Lastly, the "weapon traits" you unlock are permanent, so having 3 or 4 'go to' guns that you focus on the first few times will make your life a little easier.

    Please, play this game.

I logged in to upvote this cracking price and to agree with the above.

Suspend cycle was the key feature for me, I barely touched it before they added this, it was a really dumb system to launch the game with…

But now, it's excellent. Putting away hour after (suspended) hour.

I beat it all the way through Act 3 without the suspend feature, and while I didn't mind it too much, I definitely think that the original design added nothing productive. There's nothing worse than going through the game 3 hours deep into a great run, only for the power to go out, or the ps5 rest mode to screw up, or not being able to play with your friends or any other game for that matter. The suspend mode just makes the game so much more enjoyable because it can get so intense. Sometimes, you simply run out of mental/emotional stamina and you just want a break. Other times, you just want to do something else with your PlayStation.

To all of you who are yet to buy a PS5, please buy this game anyway. You'll be glad you did.

I just can't resist adding some tips and tricks for beginners, hopefully it helps a few Ozbargainers make the most of the experience.

1- "Options" for video tutorials. The in-game tips are good, but the video tutorials are great. Take the time to view them.
2- "R1" for dash. By default, R1 is unused and 'circle' is used for dashing. Now, I have beat the game all the way through this way, but many people recommend switching to R1. If you're going to do this, Do it do it before starting the game, as it is all about muscle memory. It's too late for me.
3- Doors. Blue rectangular doors are your main path (there are often more than one). Indigo Triangular doors are optional rooms (risk vs reward). Gold (star) doors are your 'challenge rooms' and they are crushingly difficult (risk vs reward). Later, Blue doors with a circle above them will lead to gates that can take you to other biomes, so you don't have to repeat the entirety of biome 1 to get to biome 2 for example.
4- Metroid in nature. Many areas are inaccessible at the beginning. Avoid falling. Avoid water. Avoid red tentacle lava thing. You will unlock upgrades as you progress.
5- Parasites. Parasites always offer a buff and a debuff. Never pick up the one which says "suffer damage when you pick up items". Never pick that up.
6- Guns & Adrenaline. I like these guns. You'll like these guns. Experiment with these guns, then decide that the "Hollowseeker" is the best all around gun. It's the decision I made, as you will. Then Adrenaline. Simply put, don't get hit. The more you kill without getting hit, the easier the game becomes up until adrenaline level 5. You may not think it makes much of a difference, but trust me, you'll love seeing that 5.0 at the bottom of your screen.
7- Patterns. Enemies in Returnal have easy to read, mostly obvious tells. The game is never unfair and there isn't a single attack you can't avoid. Skilled players could quite easily beat the entire game without ever being hit once, and it wouldn't even be that hard (compared to say Hollowknight). Learn the patterns and you will learn the game.
8- Obolites. Your first instinct in returnal will be to hang back and fight from a distance (especially as you use your hollowseeker), but even in this there is risk vs reward. Because when enemies die, they drop obolites (money) and these things disappear in 4 seconds or less. So you really want to be close to pick up these obolites, and you can't do that when you're dozens of meters away. So, be fluid. Move in and out and take out enemies at close or medium range, as you can manage. It's not worth dying for Obolites, but not having a lot will make it harder to survive.
9- Dash. You are invincible the entire time you are dashing except for certain late game enemies. Dash.
10- Offensiveness. The bosses in Returnal are easier than many of the minibosses before them. Every boss in returnal is a 1 on 1 fair fight. Many mini bosses spawn in a room with minions. Kill the minions before the mini boss spawns. You should almost never play this game defensively. Kill enemies before they kill you.

      Please, play this game.

Seriously. I hope they had good success with Returnal. It's a phenomenal game. Started with it a week ago and colour me impressed. Worth every dollar. Can't say that about all Sony exclusives.

That "suspend the cycle" sounds like a big selling feature, imo. I got sick fairly quickly of games without something like that (e.g. Risk of Rain 2) because I didn't always have enough time to finish hour long runs.

Cheers for the heads up :)

      • Don't forget, you can saves scumming too.

        • +1

Honestly, that would break the experience. Returnal is so fine tuned that dying is part of the game. Save scumming just ruins it imo. Then again, once you own the game, you're free to play however you see fit.

          • @E4xtream: I have limited time to play so this saves me. :D
Still though, the Returnal ending is meh.

            • @Yummy: I definitely wish the ending was far more conclusive in its presentation. I know it's a type of storytelling many enjoy but I'm not a fan of it. Give me a good, solid story that I can understand and which doesn't need 17 competing theories trying to make sense of the breadcrumbs you laid.

              The ending is meh.

Love the frothing on your post and the replies. Totally loved this game. I just finished with the hidden ending…. such a mission to get an the way there, bloody hard, but bloody rewarding.

Housemarque's previous game Nex Machina is er … "criminally underrated" (no really it is though).

It's a bullet hell twin stick shooter which Eugene Jarvis (Smash TV, various other arcade hits) worked on as creative consultant. Imagine Smash TV with hordes of enemies with larger stages including secrets and incredible voxel graphics. Probably the best twin stick shooter ever made although prepare for a difficult game.

Unfortunately it didn't sell well and caused Housemarque to commit to never making arcade games again.

      • I'd never played Nex Machina before and looking at reviews, it literally feels like Returnal in isometric form. Many of the attack patterns and core principles I recognise. I think Nex Machina had to walk so that Returnal could fly.

  • Probably good to add that there's free C&C (as per usual) - otherwise, brilliant deal.

Have been longing to play this one, but I reckon I'll wait and see if the Amazon bots price-match. Big, big fan of roguelikes.

    • Thanks! Updated the listing

    • …if the Amazon bots price-match

I was hoping this too. But then realized the Mwave listing is an international disc, so probably not 🤷‍♂️

Still worth getting. This version will still resell for more than this.

Probably better I'm not tempted here. It's GoTY season and I'm running too many game atm. Recently finished Death's Door, Metroid Dread, RE Village, and have been plugging away at Sackboy. Still haven't touched Deathloop and I bought it ~2mo ago, and I'm tempted to get onto XGP for Psychonauts 2, It Takes Two, Forza Horizon 5, and soon Halo Infinite 🤯

      • Whelp, gonna have to wait for another deal to come around :')

Probably better I'm not tempted here

Haha fair enough, I reckon I'm in the same boat. Can't wait for some time off to just kick back and grind through my backlog!

  • "My first time posting a deal so please let me know of the mistakes."

This is so relatable. Forums tend to have so many rules that I usually just assume that I have made an error, even when trying to do everything right lol

I don't think this game is for me unfortunately. I prefer relaxing games these days, so don't feel like dying over and over again!

  • $15 min shipping to VIC .. Wtf…

Was going to return the $70 Amazon one. Great if you can pickup.

  • When I go to checkout it changes back to $89

    • OOS :/
