  • Good deal. Waiting on the solar version to come down in price.

  • Top edit: FYI Looks like the non-solar Instinct doesn't have spo2, but the solar does.

I just switched from Fitbit to Garmin (different watch, but I think the same HR sensor) and I'm loving it so far. I know there's a significant price difference, so I'm not shitting on fitbit, just saying that the heart rate tracking on Garmin is much more responsive, so if you have a lot of up and down in your workouts then that's a pretty big plus. I'm seeing about a 5% higher average heart rate on the Garmin, and about 15% more calories burned over a couple of side-by-side tests (vs fitbit Charge 2). Honestly, that's not enough to switch, but my Charge 2 was pretty old, so it was time anyway.

Also not sure if the Instinct has these but (probably not? because of lack of spo2 sensor), Training Load is interesting, showing an estimated impact of your training over the past 7 days, so you can go harder or ease off to meet your goals (don't forget your rest days). Body Battery looks vaguely interesting, but not sure if it's going to actually be useful.

Down sides include everything being stored on their server which means it's a bit slower to load in the app and I hear that server outages mean you can't log stuff like food, water, weight until the server comes back up. (I use MyFitnesspal for food and weight, so I don't think that'd be a problem for me).

I rekon most users like myself only use basic functions, GPS and HRM plus maybe some of the other calculated components. i have a forerunner and used SPO2 once and then never again. Looked at some of the 'body battery' things but doesn't mean much for me. My body is 10% battery, what should i do sleep at 5pm or coffee or what haha?

      • Yeah, I mostly agree with you there. The only one that looks legitimately interesting is the Training Load stat.

FYI - Amazon are selling Fenix 5 Plus Sapphires for $299. Low stock so haven't posted as a deal.

    • Nice one. Looks like 6 and 6s are about $500 as well.

    • Can't find these! Gone?

      • sold out now i think, :-(

  • All these Garmin watches are awesome, this is a great price… As is $500 for the Fenix 6!
