Hey Levity šŸ‘‹

To celebrate its launch, if you Slice a purchase this weekend with 2 or more mates on Up we'll put $10 towards the bill.

Looks like you can do it 3 times Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Here's how to grab a Slice on the house:

  • Make an eligible purchase of $30 or more this Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • Slice it by tapping 'Slice this Purchase' on the receipt screen.
  • Slice the purchase into at least 3 Slices of minimum $5
  • Once your mates have paid their Slice youā€™ll get $10 cashback

(To Slice a purchase, make sure youā€™re on the latest version of the app. $10 Slices will continue to be served after the weekend but will operate as a game of chance.)

this is the most ozbargain thing HAHAAH

    • +2

Happy to split with 2 reputable ozbargainers, and then return the favour ;)

      • +1

sign me up if you can find another one.

      • im down if u trust me

        • Also down

        • @frforreal Your DMs are closed.

I'm looking for slicing friends too.

      • I'm also interested

    • +8

Ozbargain: Make a friend, keep the change.

    • Looking to split if anyone is still down

  • Only you get the $10 for splitting, not everyone.

    • Doesn't mean each person can't split?

      • Only the Initial Purchaser will be eligible to win a prize in this Promotion (and not any of the Friends) and will only be eligible once each of the nominated Friends has paid for their share (i.e. their ā€˜sliceā€™) of the Eligible Transaction

        • +1

But if I split with 2 friends
Friend 2 splits with me and Friend 3
Friend 3 splits with me and Friend 2

          We all get $10?

          • @blighst: If you could potentially then.

          • @blighst: please update if this works

          • @blighst: Could potentially use Beam as a card payment to split, so everyone is paying $30 to someone else then splitting it via Up

  • +3

I don't mind the feature or the promotion. But UPs entire web theme is irritating to the point of not wanting to use it. Not even for $10.

    • +4

they dont have web login, which kinda sucks, otherwise i wouldve moved my salary account to UP

      • Apparently it's in the pipeline for them

    • +12

You're missing out. Up bank has so many damn features it's amazing.

Honestly, I've never had such control or visibility over my money. I'd pay a monthly fee for Up without question.

I can split my salary into rent, spending, bills etc. My bill savers auto-transfer to my transaction account before a bill is due (virtual cards coming soon)

I can't rave about it enough.

      • It's pretty cool, but I funnel all my spending through credit cards and so it's unfortunately just not all that useful for me. If they had some good CC deals…

      • Disposable cards might convert me from Revolut, especially if itā€™s free

  • Each Friend must contribute a minimum of $5

    • You get it all back if you do it 3 times anyway?

      • That's if the purchase is equal amounts anyway?

  • do my friends also have to be on UP?

    • +1

      Yes

with 2 or more mates on Up

      • +1

I wonder how this feature is useful in real life.

I think the situation where everyone you want to split a bill with is using up bank is a very rare situation.
Also there's heaps of other solutions that gets the job done and you don't have to be with the same bank.

  • It should apply to 2 or more people. 3 or more is a bit of a stretch?

    • +1

      It is 2 or more

      • To be automatically eligible for a chance to win an Instant Win prize, individuals must spend $30 or more in one transaction using their Up Everyday Card/Digital Wallet (ā€˜Initial Purchaserā€™) during the Promotional Period and opt to split the purchase with two or more friends (ā€˜Friendsā€™) via the Slices bill splitting function on the Up banking App (ā€œEligible Transactionā€).

The entrant and all two Friends must be Up customers and have a valid Up name and account. Each Friend must contribute a minimum of $5 via the Slices bill splitting function within 48 hours of the Eligible Transaction for the Initial Purchaser to qualify for entry into the Promotion.

      • Sorry I meant should be able to split between 2 people not 3 or more.

UP was good until their interest rate took a nosedive to 0.7%.

    • +8

Agreed - still one of the best apps out there though. Even after I switched banks I really missed the app so I think it was their plan to get us hooked on the app.

      • +2

Yep take this APP over the ANZ or Bankwest APP any day.

    • +2

Agreed, I have all of my savings in 86400 because of 1.2% p.a. interest. For everyday transactions I use up. So far it's been amazing.

      • Go to Virgin and you get 1.5% + signup of points equiv $20 (3 months then it reverts to 1.2)

        • +1

I don't think it's worth the effort for an extra 0.3% for 3 months plus another $20….

          • @avgbowlofpho: $75 extra interest (assuming $100k) + up to $100 extra if you get a few referrals.

I'd say it's worth the 5 minutes to sign up.

Do an additional 5 referrals across the remaining two months (capped at 5 referrals a month) and that's an extra $200 :)

        • Incidentally, just a note, 86400's app has an average of 4.5 stars, while Virgin Money has 2 stars. (on Google Play) I tried Virgin Money pretty early when it was actually at one-star and the process broke on my device, couldn't even get into my account which was worrying for an app-only bank.

So consider your tolerance for janky apps too..

          • @jennkei: yeah the app is a bit wonky at the best of times, but it works eventually. the minor frustration is worth those credits.

      • I'm getting 1.05% with UBank, but that's a bonus rate that requires $200 to be deposited every month.

Are there any conditions for that rate with 86400? I might switch.

        • +2

Same criteria, $200 a month is all that's necessary.

I think it's easier than having to make 5 purchases a month to activate interest

          • @avgbowlofpho: True, but 5 purchases is just a given with my transaction account anyway. I just switched to Up from Macquarie because I wanted Osko payments for loading up my SelfWealth account.

            • @alcadive: I'm about to change from Macquarie, they keep calling me everyday asking where my money is coming from - I'm moving 1m+ away from them, How has UP been? I'm looking at them between 86400

              • @Schema: The signup process was super easy plus there's a $5 bonus for referer and referee.

The app seems awesome so far, I can't comment too much on anything else though as I only just switched. I did do test payments to and from the account and it was all good.

        • 1.05% interest is a waste of time, invest it.

    • I just drop money into it for my throw away spending. It's not my primary pay account.

    • +2

Great Ruby on rails Devs there. Yeeew

      • +1

Is this system written on Rails? Nice thing to find out. :)

        • not sure about nitty gritty, but trust rails is their main stack. One of the founding guys moved to afterpay to make it great as Up-bank, or close-enough, haha

  • can we do this multiple times?

    • Looks like you can do it 3 times
      Entries permitted:
Limit one (1) entry permitted per Eligible Transaction. Limit one (1) prize per person each day.

      • wording is a bit ambiguous - so really up for 1x $10 bonus at max? Assuming you and two others both do 3 transactions to fill each others quota?

      • So I can do this today, Saturday and Sunday and potentially earn $30? šŸ˜‰

        • +1

Yes I've done it Friday and Saturday already for $20

  • Why are you saying hello to yourself?

    • +3

I got this in an ad in my Up app so it's addressed to me

    • +2

      Hello dojomojo!!! šŸ˜˜

  • Yeah, I don't shill for banks so that my friends and myself get r@ped for money and data.

  • I dont really like the fact that all user have to use the Up app to slice, with Mandate Payment Service rolling out soon I am sure there will be other providers that will leverage off that instead of asking all users to have an account with one particular provider.

Otherwise it is a good promotion, a good new way for Bendigo to get new customer.

    • +5

The whole point of the exersize is to get more people using UP. Otherwise, they would be literally just giving money away for nothing.

    • @Hargen Then use Beem It to split payments which is compatible with all banks.

  • Waaaay too much effort for 10 bucks

    • +1

You can get $30 if you do it thrice

  • Anyone want to slice? DM me

    • Pmed, we just need a third to slice
Are you down to slice all 3 days?

  • how do you get 3 slices with 2 people taking part? or is it 1 person + 2 more mates slicing

    • The latter is how I read it.

    • Ayaka is slicing with his partners account

  • Worked well for me. Ayaka was a prompt slicer, very responsive and quick to request and pay slice.
The $10 is credited to your account immediately.

    • So you buy something worth $30 and slice it after the fact? What did you buy, a gift card or something?

      • +2

I did a revolut topup which worked

        • I just realised I can't do anything until my card arrives anyway. Damn.

          • @alcadive: You can view card details from up in app (or do you need to activate)

            • @blighst: Yeah I need to activate and I can't do that until it arrives. Thanks anyway.

          • @alcadive: I used the virtual card on Google pay you get from Card|Google Pay in UP app to buy a McDonald's Dinner Box

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah I just figured that out and went and bought a Woolies gift card, cheers.

        • @blighst: Instant? Did $30 Revolut about half hour ago, paid up, but no $10 yet

          • @hny3: Yep was instant for me

            • @blighst: Thanks exactly $30? My friend tried that too a few minutes ago with his mates, and it hasn't worked yet, not instant

              • @hny3: Yep I had $30, split $5 with two other Ozbargainers and got the money instantly after they paid

                • @blighst: Is it still working? Once I enter my friend's up name and confirm his account name, it shows "Not found".

                  • @joewg12: Tap the "add an upsider" button at the bottom of where you select who to split with, rather than searching for them (if I understand your qn correctly)
