Another $40 and you can get this instead:

    • $40 for rear cam +WIFI access

      • Is wifi a must have?

        • +1

Personally, I've never used the wifi function. I just take the memory card out when I need to transfer videos.

It is convenient if you want to copy videos to your phone.

Rear camera is underrated. Just as important as front.

Most common accident I've been in have been getting rear ended.

        • +3

Don't insurers usually take the rear ender-er as at fault, as their default position unless proven otherwise?

          • +2

@inamberclad: Yep, except if it happens in a car park and they don't leave a note

          • @inamberclad: if u got rear ended and the person did a u turn. your front won't help.

        • You cna usually use the front one to show you weren't moving when the car was hit.

          • @sheikyerbouti: I successfully did this once. My car reversed first and I saw another car reversing. I stopped and honked but the other party continued, then argued that I have reversed passed to the other lane (read: passed halfway point).. That didn't make sense to me so I just settled it with my insurance company with front dashcam footage. That took care of it - no my fault, no excess.

            • @1cent2much: Near identical situation as you. Told insurance company that I had front dashcam footage showing exactly our stopping first and then the impact. The insurance company never asked for the footage to be sent in and the claim was settled with the other party deemed at fault.

      • forgot to mention that A129 DUO use sony IMX291 for both front and rear cam. A119 v3 uses sony IMX335 which is superior (same as A129 Plus Duo)

  • Anyone know if these have a micro-USB power jack?

Edit: Looks like mini-USB in pictures

    • +1

      yep mini usb

    • +3

Having designed circuit boards with mini-USB and micro-USB connectors, I can tell you that mini are superior for strength. Micro-USB connectors are just soldered to the top of the PCB, and a bit of upwards force just peels them and their copper tracks straight off the PCB. Many (but not all) mini-USB connectors have mounting legs that go through the PCB, and are soldered on the other side of the PCB, so it takes substantially more force to rip them off the PCB.

  • Recently installed one of these. Awesome quality for the price :-)

Any recommendations for a dash cam which also has another cam for inside the vehicle.

Viofo A129 Duo IR would be what you are looking for.

  • I bought the A119 back in 2017 and it no longer worked. Will this fit into the existing gps module?

    • +1

Unfortunately, it won't but if you've got the wiring already tucked in etc, you'd still be able to use it since this is still mini usb

      • Perfect, I’ll remove the module and use the existing mini USB and put the new mount :)

  • My first version from 2017 ran down the battery a couple of times as it did not turn off on its own. Are the later versions intelligent enough to detect that car is off and turn off itself?

    • Who installed it? Sounds like it may be wired to the battery as most accessory ports such as USB switch off when the car is turned off.

      • +1

VW doesn't switch off ciggie lighting socket.. so if it's powered there, then it stays on.

    • +1

Sounds like you need to power your dashcam off an accessory circuit. A hardwire kit is what you want HK3 on ebay/Amazon.

      • Thanks guys

        • Note that hardwire kits still keep the unit on when the car is parked, but they monitor the battery voltage, and cut power if the battery drops below a pre-set voltage. So if the battery voltage gets low enough for the hardwire kit to cut the power, you should still have enough charge left in the battery to start the car.

If only cars had this sort of voltage cut-off on their other circuits, like the headlights!

  • solid unit, my v2 is still going strong

  • Does this still record when parked for carpark accidents etc?

  • They sure take their time to ship! I ordered on the 13th and it still hasn't shipped. I could probably order the Amazon deal and receive it before this. :)
