    Does this work on V6?

    • +3

=Just picked up a V6 thrown out on hard rubbish.

Was jammed with hair in behind the cog where the motor sits. Needed to press out the bearing to get at it.

Also love that the turbo button PCB blocks the fan outlet.

      Gee Dyson makes some rubbish.

Charging what he does for them… that's why he is Knighted!!

I've also had the Dyson vacuum cleaner experience.
Was talked into it by the wife's brand snob friend.
Badly made, but well marketed product. Actually a good case study for marketing students.
The local repair agents were happy enough to keep mailing out replacement parts that fell off, it was as if they knew they would break and they charged enough at the initial purchase to cover the cost of shutting up customers later down the track.
Mine ended up on the hard rubbish/recycling pile.
Some other poor sod is now living the dream.

My wife insisted we buy our first Dyson a few weeks ago. I was surprised how cheaply made and breakable bits seemed. Also came with a TERRIBLE multi-purpose head on it that does a extremely poor job picking up dog hair on carpet compared to our old vacuum that cost half as much. I find the ball tips over more frequently than a low flat vacuum. I think Dyson is overpriced rubbish surviving on marketing and feel ripped off.

Totally agree. My mum has had Dysons for 20 yrs. In the family home, I am the one that has always done the vacuuming. We have had 2 Dysons in this time but have gone through 5 motors. Back when mum bought the first one she fell into the marketing hype: 'bagless', 'innovative design' and 'no loss of suction' claim.

The first Dyson burnt out a motor. We had always cleaned both filters regularly and emptied the canister after every use. The replacement motor after another 18 mths or so burnt out. Despite costing an arm and a leg for the replacement motor, mum insisted on getting it replaced again. After the 3rd motor burnt out, mum decided to get a new vacuum - ANOTHER DYSON UNFORTUNATELY. I suggested we try a different brand but she maintained that we would never find one with as good suction.

The second Dyson burnt out its motor a smidge outside of warranty and Dyson wanted nothing to do with it. Back to the local repair centre, mum got a new motor for this one. Surprise, surprise, it did not last long at all until it burnt out. We always look after everything we own. We had cleaned filters, checked for blockages and used compressors to blow any stubborn dust out of the canister. In the end, with the death of our 5th motor, mum has finally agreed to CHANGE BRANDS!! I am still doing the vacuuming and she has said that I can choose the new one. The first thing I said was "NO MORE DYSONS!"

          • @RoosterBooster: Motor burnt out, or jammed? (Or possibly burnt out from being jammed). The one I picked up was simply jammed from hair twisted behind where the brush head connects. It looked perfectly clean, but I noticed I could see the cog teeth behind the spring. Thought that's the dumbest idea ever and surely would suck in hair…..BINGO!
Oh, and also above where the bucket connects, there are two contacts that get coated in dirt. These were also covered. So I scratched that off.

Fixed a few friends Dyson DC type vacs, same deal. Appeared dead, just jammed. Should be UC (Useless Crap).

They would all make a good blower with the high rpm motors, but the design isn't fit for purpose once hair and dirt are thrown in.

I bought a 10 year old Kirby for $100 Twenty odd years ago. Still going strong. No empty it every time BS. Dyson "never looses suction..ever". How was he not fined for that? It clogs up in 5 mins. The Kirby, change the bag once a year maybe. Won't lie, it's heavy. But people pay gym memberships for resistance training.

However, recently bought my parents a G6 Kirby ($60 off FB market place). Has a motor that drives it forward or back depending if you are pushing or pulling it. Much lighter, and no resistance. In my opinion, the best you can get before they go plastic as well.

If you must get a kids Toy type vacuum, the Kmart version is the same rubbish filter system as the Dyson, but is $100.

            • @tunzafun001: No its definitely not jammed. Both of ours were barrel/cylinder big ball machines. I have pulled the brush head apart many a time when it gets the slightest bit of hair tangled in it. Every time the motor issue has happened it makes a terrible noise like its dying, then dies. It also produces a horrible burnt smell. I remember reading someone comment that their Dysons had done the same and they believe the 'tiny pores' that open and close clog up. It may well be what happened. Although I have always pulled hoses apart to check for blockages, used the compressor to blow out the canister and washed filters so its not like the motors have died from lack of maintenance. I am considering getting a Miele now.

    • It does say in the product description "requires a Phillips hue bridge".

      • Yeah I just wasn't sure whether that was only needed to control it from the app.

Google says only the Bluetooth models work with Google/Alexa without a bridge and I don't think this is a Bluetooth model.

  • Also do keep in mind the RRP of some items may be somewhat inaccurate, Price Hipster does that sometimes.

Price Hipster doesn't ever show the RRP. The RRP isn't even data Price Hipster keeps in the database. The reason is RRPs are largely garbage.

There is a "normal price", which is an attempt at suggesting what price the product is normally sold at for the particular store. Obviously it's going to be somewhat less useful for products/stores where the price bounces around a lot.
