But if your Kitchenaid isn't red did you even buy a Kitchenaid?

    • +1

I want the Macha green one!

      • +5

But the red one spin faster though.

    • +1

      Only red KitchenAids have soul

    • I thought Kitchenaid are all in red…

    • Just don't let your Mrs see that there was a "100 Year Queen of Hearts Limited Edition".

  • I’ll probably buy one if there’s a sub-$300 sale like in 2019. Otherwise at this price it’s good, but I can live without it

    • +9

Sub 300 , gl with that, inflation has ended those days

    • Yeah, that thing looks cool and is sturdy enough to fend off a burglar, but I don't bake multuple times a week and I already own a food processor capable of mixing dough with a hook or blades and simply can't justify spending so much.

Somebody would say this has more than one-two use cases, but grinding or pasta-making attachments cost a lot. Also you'd potentially want a transparent bowl - that's extra too.

      • +3

My fairly new one blew up the other day using the dough hook, hopefully that makes it even easier to justify steering clear.

        • +1

And what did KitchenAid say? I've had a few Kitchenaid products die after warranty and they have just asked for a copy of receipt, photo of "cut cord" and sent me a new one - they have been fantastic to deal with

          • @the-fuzz: Wait, seriously?

The cord is a 10 minute fix job after cutting, could be a money maker…

            • @Parentheses: Lol you don't even have to actually cut the cord.

        • Did it get too hot?

        • The motor burned out and completely stopped, or the plastic gear cracked?

        • One thing is that you should only ever use the dough hook on low speed. it makes me grimace when you see people saying to knead at high speed.

    • I was going to buy one but then read about a plastic/nylon gear that cracks. Apparently even the heavy duty/most expensive one "designed" for kneading dough breaks.

  • +5

How does the classic compare with the 150, 160, 170 varients (which all seem to be the same as each other)

    • Usually different included bowls and other bits.

    • +1
      • +1

I was tossing up between the classic and the artisan, but also found this article, the motor and accessories (and possibly colour range) makes the difference; the motor particularly for bread and what its rated to handle.

    • +2

150/160/170 are all the same, just different inclusions (extra or different bowls, etc).

Classic has a smaller capacity and lower power motor. With that said, it seems to have a higher dough capacity rating. Weird.

      • Trying to decide whether to ride my luck to see what kind of black friday sales drop on the 150 etc models and whether this will still be available by then

        • My wife wants the KSM160 - make sure you get the all important colour right.

      • What's the dough capacity? Looking for something that can do around 2kg.

  • +1

Great deal on a great product.
Get the mincer/stuffer attachment and never buy sausages ever again.
I use mine all the time, it is awesome, very versatile surprisingly and feels very solid.

    • Yeah it's an expensive product, but it definitely makes a lot of things really easy.

    • Nice.. Where do you buy the casings from? Do you have this model mixer?

  • Wow I didn't realise how much these cost in Australia. Similar models are $299 RRP in the USA.

    • +3

      RRP: 849 AUD
      minus GST: 771 AUD
minus: shipping + toll + Aussie distributor markup + Aussie seller markup = 361 AUD: 410 AUD

      410 AUD = 299 USD

(This is just a rough excercise, by this deal here we see that no importer pays the American RRP for these)

      • +1

I'm not sure that shipping to Australia would cost significantly more than shipping to the USA, since they're probably made in China, Taiwan, or Japan.

There's some other products where prices are similar to American prices, but others like this where there's a large difference.

    • +10

      Everything is bloody overpriced here.

      • +17

Hence the traffic on OzB servers generates enough heat to keep up a small Tassie town in wintertime.

      • +14

Because we don't pay people $7.25 an hour

        • Yeah it's pretty bad in some states. Having said that, I'm a Melburnian but currently living in California, and minimum wage here is about the same, or slightly higher, than Australia ($14 per hour, but it's closer to $16 per hour in my area) plus there's no discrimination based on age (younger workers have the same minimum)

      • Also the distributor and retailer have to factor in the costs they will incur under the ACL (and probably other laws that I'm not aware of).

  • +2

    That's the gf's birthday sorted..

    • +4

"Also, now you can make your own birthday cake"

    • The girlfriend always gets the better presents than the wife!

  • Lol David Jones.
Cancelled your order before you even place it!

  • +1

Thanks OP. I used my $200 gift card that I got with my amex spend $200 get $200 credit offer.

  • Thanks OP, got one!

  • Used the 80k from the Amex Traveller deal a few months ago that was worth 150k Amex + card fee refunded. Happy with this!

    275W motor!
That's Daylight robbery at the (alleged) RRP!

    • -2

      275w is too low IMO

      • Can't be useful for mixing anything more dense than a sponge cake?
My old Sunbeam Compact Pro was 400W and really chugged mixing bread dough.
Upgraded to a 700W Kenwood which copes perfectly fine.

How do they get away with it? Even at this sale price it's an expensive Kitchen decoration!

  • Thanks OP. Got one for Mum for Xmas. She’s getting old now and has arthritis. Is there anything extra I should be buying for this? She loves making fresh bread and pastries etc. also Gnocci, but I’m guessing the standard mixer attachments can do that. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    • I hope MUM has a lot of bench space for this beast coz it weighs 10.5KG

      • +1

        She does. It’s a big U-Style bench.

    • Does she like pasta? My wife and I have a pasta maker addon for ours. There's two different pasta addons: one that rolls a flat sheet (eg for lasagne, fettuccine, pappardelle, etc) and one that extrudes shapes (for normal spaghetti, rigatoni, fusili, etc).

      • She sure does. I’ll check them out. Thanks

  • I bought Hauffmann Davis stand mixer for $65 an year ago and no issues so far. Just trying to understand if there something special with this one (except brand name) for almost 7 times more price ?

    • +1

The looks basically. I was gonna say the attachments but their prices are so ridiculous that you can buy stand alone for cheaper.

Mrs has a breville that she's had for over 5 years, it's on maybe 10hrs or so over the weekend mixing dough. Hasn't skipped a beat

  • +1

    Thanks OP grabbed black option.

  • Thanks Op

  • Holding out for a deal on artisan or chef xl but this is tempting. For doughs think better to wait tho :(

  • Someone just posted the same unit for $376 via club catch

  • +1

Welp.. there goes my $800 ordered from Kitchen Aid yesterday.. I mean.. at least it came with free engraving? 🥺

    • +6

If I could slap you I would. Please hand in your Ozbargain card.

    • +4

$380 for engraving is a bargain

  • white no longer on sale

  • black also

  • Back to 849 for both black and white

  • -1

  • Got a refund processed by David Jones this morning they're saying they can't fulfil the orders

  • Good luck to all who purchased. David Jones never honour these pricing error deals.

  • Mine got cancelled today as well. Ordered in the late arvo, when C&C stock and delivery available.

  • seems the deal at catch.com is ended now.

  • Mine got delivered today, luckily it didn't get cancelled. I bought 2 hours after posting.

    • Interesting.

Deal posted at 15:02 and my order confirmation came in at 17:01. So similarly ~2 hours after it was posted, but I got the cancellation.

  • Just received a cancellation as well.

Changing to a downvote on this, for the benefit of anyone searching in future at previous deals etc.
