I made the experience, that Amaysim SIMs are already activated when they're sent out.
You just email them, they reset the monthly to when you first use it
Or you can just say you want to port some random number and then choose new number when you wish to active :)
I ordered one last week (non ported number) and it automatically reset the first day of month when I inserted SIM into handset
They reset it after your first txt.

This might be a silly question but, does anyone know if they port your number away instantly? So if I were to sign up for the plan with my real phone number, will they port out my number onto the SIM and then I won’t have service for the next few days while waiting on their delivery? Or will it only port out when I activate the SIM, when it arrives at my house?
Porting is done once sim arrives at home and you activate it.
No. You port when you feel like it. The sim is "inactive" when it sent you to you if you choose "port number over". Once you have it, you can choose to continuing porting or choose new number.
Hence, the trick is always "port" so the sim remain inactive until you decide to use it ;)

Not sure why you’re expecting this from a budget provider? I mean, Telstra/Optus/Voda need some sort of a justification to be able to charge customers $50/$99 month on their fancy plans.

I have some specific reasons to use this particular sim from Amaysim. Gomo mobile supports eSIM, Wifi calling and VoLTE, but I don’t want it. Moose mobile is also good but no eSIM.
Would that specific reason be free calls to certain countries? I’m just saying you can’t have it all for this price (same reason why you won’t see 5G on plans like this). MVNOs can’t offer the same service or inclusions as the owners of the networks they’re leasing, they need to cut costs somewhere.
@bozbargain: Yes, some of the countries I call to are not free on other carriers and because Optus has very bad reception at my home and I got a very fast NBN, I need the Wifi calling function. And, my iPhone only supports one eSIM and one physical sim, so one of the simcards has to be eSIM.
@T-man: Wouldn't ditching the other sim and going all-in with amasyim be a better solution then? I mean, free international calls are are pretty good perk if you actually use them. Or use the amaysim sim in an old mobile, just to use for those international calls? I don't think you'll get a cheap carrier with Telstra coverage, eSIM, wifi calling and free international calls anytime soon…
