    Hey mate, I always run into this problem and it's not the charger's fault. It's the battery being discharged too low and left for too long.
    Just use 2 metal keys (or wires, or any conductive item) to connect the dead eneloop to a working rechargable battery of the same type, + to + and - to -.
    It's easy to balance both on a metal key and use another key to connect the 2 positive ends like a sandwich. Give it about a minute or 2 and then try to charge the dead eneloop in the smart charger. It should be detected if all goes well.
    I was very skeptical when I read about this method, but it has saved me a good sum of $ plus kept a bunch of working batteries out of the bin!
