I use 'Bypass Paywalls Clean' addon for Firefox which works well, and I think there's also a Chrome version.

    • Thanks, worked on the daily telegraph not that it's regular reading… Don't like how it wants to see my browser history though.

    • I use this as well and highly recommend it. Also works great in Firefox Nightly on Android.

    Nice!

Didn’t work on a couple of news sites I tried, did on others.

This Chrome extension has been the best I’ve found. Desktop only though.

    • +5

FYI this also works with Kiwi Browser on Android.

      • Confirm this extension works great with Kiwi on Android.

      • Does Kiwi let you save/print pages to PDF? It's one of the reasons why I've stayed on Firefox 68.11

        • I found the Opera browser worked well for printing to PDF. I had problems with Chrome, Edge, FireFox.

          • @Hoofee: Is this on Android? I didn't realise the extension worked on Opera for Android

            • @itsfree: Oops sorry, Windows. Haven't tried it on Android.

      • Great to know, just installed and works a treat - thanks!

      • Thanks this is awesome

    • Didn't know this existed, thank you!

  • +2

Great! Next question. How can I upvote multiple times?

  • +12

First time I’ve been able to read the Herald Scum for ages! Thanks OP

    • +3

Do you feel dirty like I do after reading the Herald Scum for the first time in almost a decade?

I only read about the Tim Paine scandal but I can't wash the Murdoch stench off me.

    • -1

It’s a tool. Some may choose to use it for piracy.

We’d better unpublish all Usenet, knives, power tools deals as well as some people may use those things for illegal purposes.

      • +7

        False equivalency.

        • Then what is your equivalency?

    • +36

Stealing from Murdoch and News corp can only be seen as a positive!

      • -1

Interesting, if you believe News Corp is producing propaganda or trash, why steal it?

        • Reading something that is free on the internet isn't theft.

          • @rektrading: not free, paywalled.

            • @[Deactivated]: I don't paywalls with the browser that I use.

There are free sites for everything else.

    • +7

      found Murdoch's ozb burner account

    • Not to draw any conclusions about this particular post, but OzB actually doesn't care about the legality of deals.

  • +7

3 of Rupert's bots have reported it.

    • +3

Looks like some companies pay them to block their sites

      • -2

        Conjecture.

        • How have you gone about dealing with Cease and Desist letters? Re: NYTimes.

Do you have a list of which sites you are not circumventing/have received C&D's for?

      • Money have to make some where.

Can I post sites that bypass Netflix's pay wall?

    • +2

I suppose Netflix doesn't take Govt money & charge you.

        • +3

Just get off your moral high horse.

I think you're talking to yourself there mate.

          • +2

            @M00Cow: Care to elaborate?

I'm not exactly on a moral high horse. I have had paywall bypassing extensions in my browser for as long as I can remember. Just don't think this post is deal and belongs on Oz bargain and don't think it's place can be justified by saying "(profanity) Murdoch".

            • @oshkoshjosh4: I think you're reading way to much into my simple response.

Maybe take a deep breath, count to 10 and re-read.

              • @M00Cow: I just want to know what moral high horse I'm on. If you won't elaborate I'll just assume it was a throw away statement with no truth or basis.

        • -4

Gives everyone a huge speech, tells everyone to get off their high horse. You can't make this stuff up

          • +3

@MikeKulls: Not sure 4 sentences is a huge speech but you do you friend. I commented in order to neg the post as I don't think it belongs on this site.

I said the original commenter was on a "moral high horse" as he specifically defended his own morality (unprovoked) with reference to news sites receiving government funding. I frankly don't give a flying (profanity).

            • @oshkoshjosh4: You do. That's why you keep responding.

              • +2

@Entheogen: I acknowledge everyone who speaks to me (both online and in real life).

I find not responding to be not only rude, but a sign of intellectual dishonesty that undermines my original point.

    • For real?

    • +4

You can post VPN via Turkey deals for Netflix

    • Yes

    • Show me how please

  • Is the “12ft.io/” to come before the https… or after?

    • +2

Before, or head to 12ft and paste the url in their box

    • +2

Are you Scott as in Scott Morrison as in the most incompetent PM ever?

Stop defending your master Murdoch and appreciate this for what it is.

      • Does it only work for Murdoch owned sites?

      • Unnecessarily personal reply

      • -1

Jesus, you sound like a programmed robot.

  • -6

Why do you post such links on Aussie bargain, companies are going to know about it and find a way to block it? And it will affect all of us who have been using for years

    • +1

Any company that already monitors its weblogs will already know about it.

  • +2

Just get an extension like Bypass Paywalls as mentioned above… works great.

    • Cant get the Oz or The Tele.

      • Both working fine here with Bypass Paywalls Clean.

        • Yes I am not sure why mine is not opening up. I used to have great success with Anti Paywall through Github and could get into Courier Mail, The Tele & The Oz. Not a bother. Then The Oz & Tele seized up sending me back to Paywall. May have to reinstall. I need a mate to help with that. Anyway crazy as it sounds with BAP I now can open the West Australian the Canberra Times and AFR. (Although I used to open pages of AFR no problem via the old reload by F5 then hit stop reloading before the subscription bit pops up. Check out this workaround for the Oz and other papers no doubt. Works in a weird way. Takes a while to load each story if you paste link of storing into search box. https://archive.md/ At least I can do some Oz reading.

  • +7

Imagine paying for the privilege of reading the print media's propaganda

    • It's funny how most (notable exception were financial media) rushed to put their content on the internet for free…then wonder why people get upset when they're now charging for it.

Personally I pay for Inkl, a collection of news stories, from various news sites, without the clickbait (including the ever increasingly clickbaity ABC)

  • +15

Doesn't work for NY Times - "12ft has been disabled for this site". Reddit suggests companies pay 12ft to exclude their websites.

Disabling JavaScript is more convenient as you do it once then don't need to do it again (and works on mobile as well as desktop). Works on SMH, The Age, AFR, NY Times. Doesn't work on Daily Telegraph (but neither will 12ft)

    On Chrome:
Settings > Site Settings > JavaScript > Add Site Exception > type in "www.smh.com.au"

it works on safari also. soo good

    • -2

      Off topic.
I’m trying to get my passwords from safari to chrome.
I use High Sierra but can’t figure out how to do it.
I have all my bookmarks imported to chrome but finding it impossible to get my passwords to chrome.

Any help would do apple users

    Champion, works for AFR.

    Loved it, thanks OP

ABC has the best freely accessible news in this country

    lol.

    • +5

who do you think is the best freely accessible news in this country?

      • +1

I'm gonna guess their answer is Sky News.

  • +3

Surprised there’s no downvotes for this ‘piracy’

    • A lot of reports though.

    • +2

There have been. The downvote brigade has removed them all.

  • Brave browser works 9 out of 10 to block paywalls.

The one than this left can often be found by searching free news sites.

  • +2

It doesn't work for the Illawarra Mercury.

Seriously they had a father's Day sale and I was sick of being paywalled to read something about the local tip, so I was like, bugger it I'm just gonna pay and take the deal.

And they blocked me from signing up saying I had to purchase the deal as a gift, not for myself.

    So I didn't pay…

    • A gift to yourself?

  • Worked on the AFR when I tried.

Seems like the sort of thing that will be shut down as they close up loopholes in the code.

  • +1

Yasss! I can access the local rag from my home town, thanks OP!

  • It works on AFR, cant believe it. Great for accessing those "occasional" news sites but I still encourage people to pay for sites which you access frequently.

  • I just tried it on The West Australian and The Times UK and it didn't work.

    the best freely accessible news

The aim of the ABC is to advance the interests of the Australian Government. It is propaganda by it's own admission.

The Australian Government is controlled by the wealthiest and their interest is removing your money.
