      no one asked

      • Well, jv did but he doesn't count.
Always neg jv especially when he's got a point!!

  • +2

Well literally bought the last deal yesterday. Do amazon do credit so i dont have to cancel and reorder?

    • +1

They don’t bud. I typically order at the new price and put through a return on the original priced item. Use the original item, and when the new is received just ship it back as the original. Once they receive it they refund you :)

      • -2

Shipping back with cost about the same if not more than $12

        • +2

          Return shipping is free.

          • +3

@ntodt: Only under certain conditions (not for change of mind or because a better price came up).

    • If the item hasn’t shipped, you can request to cancel, and usually it’s approved within an hour.

    • If you had it delivered to an Amazon Hub Locker, you can not pick it up and it'll automatically be returned and refunded in full.

Keen to get someone's review of these? Been looking for a cam to get installed.

Hoping it's easy enough to get footage on and off?

    • +2

Check those comments in the last deal. Or just click related product you can see all deals posted related to it.

  • +1

Thanks bought. Perfect for the new hybrid arriving soon.

    Any recommended installers in Melb?

  • +2

Just wanting to confirm if the power cable that comes with this terminates in a USB-A plug, as I power my current dashcam with a power bank when parked for continuous recording.

    • +1

Yes it is standard USB-A to mini.

    • +2

That is interesting. Is it normal power bank you use? And how long does it last? Interested to know how it works.

      • +4

        I use 2 normal power banks, a 10,000 and 20,000mAh.
I put them in the sunglasses holder in the roof (VW Golf) and run a short cable to the dashcam.
The 10,000 will last about 10 hours, the 20,000 will last 20+ hours as it newer and has a low power mode.

I've been meaning to run a longer cable, so I could have the dashcam plugged into the car while driving, then plug it into the power bank, which could then sit in the centre console or glovebox, when parked.
Ive had absolutely no issues with recording while running on the power bank, but it will shorten the lifespan of the SD card due to continuous recording.

        • @blaast

Does it comes with a usb plug that can just go into the cigarette lighter adapter?

        • +1

Do you do anything extra to mitigate heat around the banks beyond parking I shade, due to our climate? Do you just take the banks with you on hot days or is there another setup?

    • +1

Wait, so if I have a 20,000 powerbank plugged to the car and the camera connected to the powerbank, does that mean I don't need the hardware kit?
And would the camera recognise when the car isn't driving and go into the parking mode (record if there's a movement)?
      Thanks

  • Finally, bought one. Thanks

  • Does this require additional double sided tape to mount on the windscreen? Or will the adhesive from the box itself suffice?

    • They hold well, mine still standing after 3years

  • +1

Decided to buy two of the v119 V3. On a decent sale also right now and my missus said she just wants a front cam and doesn't need anything to crazy. Save myself $100 😂

    • +2

This is basically the exact same as the A119 except for field of view no reason to buy this unless you really want the rear camera.

      • Yep thought so! Thanks mate. Happy enough with a front cam. Might invest in a power bank to keep it running even when the cars off.

      • Any specific SD card recommendations for it?

        • +1

The Samsung PRO Endurance is the well known recommended card for dash cams.

  • How much more do you have to spend to get a model where buffered recording works? Sounds like a worthwhile feature to have.

    • +2

The Viofo A129 Pro has it. It was on special at Amazon a couple of days ago for $250

      • Thanks

      • Does the v119 V3 have buffered?

  • Any suggestions on which fuse tap to purchase for the hard-wire kit for a fuse-mini type connector?

  • +1

Anyone got a recommended installer based in Perth?

    • DIY is pretty easy unless you want to hardwire it.

      • +1

Even then it's pretty easy, YouTube, a packet of micro fuses from Jaycar and 2 fuse tappers

        • +1

How hard is it/what are the repercussions if you screw it up?

I understand electronics but no experience on the auto side of things.

          • @blighst: It's not too hard if you're pretty hands on, there's quite a few videos on youtube explaining the process, worst case scenario is you blow a fuse I believe (not a mechanic or electrician so I'm not too sure). Honestly the hardest part was positioning myself to be able to work on the fusebox, my fusebox was under/behind/inside the glovebox. Chances are once you you tap them your fusebox lid won't fit back on properly, however this process is completely reversible so if you're selling your car and want to keep the dashcam, you can simply yank everything out.

  • Is having a dahs cam worth it?
I understand for insurance purposes but hardly any claim is disputed or the parties disagree.

I'm looking at $240 (cam, hard wire and SD card) for something I'll never need as such?

    • +3

Even with your budget of $240, that is a small price to pay for peace of mind and any headaches down the track if you ever need to make a claim

    • I think you said it yourself when you said, "hardly any claim is disputed". It's an additional form of "insurance" for that rare claim that does get disputed.

    • +3

Dash/rear cams pay for itself. It's same like, do I need to install camera around my property? Burglars may not come around. Unfortunately, we never know until it happens and you may come across an irrational person. When they see that other person has camera, their tone changes. Happened to me last month when truck driver hit me from the back and blaming me. Don't wait for it to happen. Like others have said, it's an added insurance and a huge peace of mind.

Plus you get nice recordings of kangaroos and thunderstorms as added bonus :)

    • Thank you. Fair points
      Purchased

      • +2

I bought mine for 2 purposes

        1. Freak accident I need to prove I'm not at fault when I normally would be (IE rear ender or something)

        2. Freak occurance where I need to prove to my friends were something crazy happened.

So far no accidents but a whole heap of clips sent to friends

I will gamble and wait to purchase tonight between 6pm and 8pm so I can try and get 10% off via ShopBack.🤞

    • +1

      It's 10% cashback not 10% off

      • Sorry, yes 10% cashback.

    • +1

I just purchased the viofo using shopback after missing out yday.

    • -2

I made purchase, shopback did not track, can you let me know if yours tracked?

  • Besides the extra cost, any reason not to get the Pro/4K version?

  • Excellent price. I believe this is the lowest price it has been. I missed out on the last deal so this is pefect for me.
Anyone who has this hard wire with the Viofo hard wire kit, can you please comment how long can it record before the low voltage power cut out? Is it enough battery for you to start your car?

    • I have the same with Hardwire kit (for 6 months) and you can program for the park mode to run 12-24 hours from memory. Shouldn't have any issues as long as the car battery is good.

      • Did you have to buy extra battery for the camera to operate on parking mode or just run it from car's battery only?

  • Does anyone know if the connection is the same as the a129 duo?

Can I just take off the a129 duos we have and replace it with these two without rewiring?

  • +3

Finally pulled the trigger on one… now watch it drop to $150 later this week…

    • About 159 with 10% cashback from shopback. I may pull trigger if $150 later in the week.

    • Lucky… I just came online, and missed out again. Fark.
Needed two. I've been waiting about 6 months now for it to get to $170-$190 range.

It's now shot up to $260 on Amazon, whilst eBay has it for $330 :(

      • Wow unlucky, you missed out on 2 deals over the last 4 days

      • You might miss out again if you don't get on this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/667756

        • Aren't these 2 listings the same dash cam and specs ?

          • +1

@Cameltoe: The other one has sold out now and that link has now changed to the same as this. It wasnt like that before.
It's the same listing but a different option within the listing listing once one sells out it defaults to the other one.

            • @8azinga: Thank you for the clarification. The built in memory model was the deal breaker.

  • I’ve had two different Viofo models, and then went to Blackvue.

I’d honestly recommend that you spend the extra money and go for something more high end.

I don’t miss how long it used to take to get the data off the cam via their very laggy app, and the image quality wasn’t “HD” in my opinion.

    • Funny..I went from an A129 duo to a blackvue $600 DRX 750x in the new car 4 months ago and I hate it. If it did not cost so much to take out and reinstall another viofo I would swap back in a second

VERY regret spending so much money on it

      • Wow ??

You must have gotten a lemon because the 750X is far more superior than the Viofo in every way, besides the price

        • Exactly!. besides the price, ozbargained!

          • @cyruslol: It's working perfectly. I just do not like it compared to my A129 which we still have on another car. The sensitivity is a joke, eve with the setting option, you cannot change the recording block size and I'm not so sure it has better capture at all…definitely not worth an extra $300

  • Really want a good installer around melbourne for hardwire?

  • Anyone have a recommended ozbargain link for the hardwood kit please? And the fuse tap kit?
The official kit is A bit on the high side.

There also seems to be a polarising filter & a Bluetooth Remote Control but not sure if it's really needed.

    • +3

      That's not sold by VIOFO.

VIOFO A129 Dash Cam 3 Wire ACC HK3 Hardwire Kit For Parking Mode https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07KZGM9LS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

Fuse taps you need to buy the ones that fit your car.

Ie see following for the types https://www.thedashcamstore.com/fuse-tap-sets-for-dash-cams-…

      • +1

Life saver, so I'll budget another $30 for the kit. Cheers for the fuse links. I have NO idea about any of this so it's good to have the community to ask!

        • All else fails you can get fuse taps from jaycar/SCA etc, but dunno if they are the cheapest.

          • @John Kimble: Do you know that once we install the cam with this hard wire kit, it will record continuously or only when it detect a movement while parking?

            • @bargainfinder: I believe you can choose it in the settings. I don't know what the default is, I've never owned one, getting it this weekend.

              • +1

@John Kimble: Ok. I just dont want it sucks all the battery from my car, as a few people i know pay more money for installer to put an extra battery under the seat to provide extra power for the cam while the car is off. However from Killerbala comments above, it look like the hard wire kit will manage the battery power just fine.

          • +1

@John Kimble: Got the fuse tester from JayCar - $6
Got some spare fuses from SCA - $6
Got the HK3 kit from Strathfield Car Audio - $25
Strathfield CA also had the fuse taps for $14 for 3. Got them too.

I've made some progress with a mate. Managed to get the camera working on the Golf and fuse box. Struggling a bit with cable management and the A Pillars and taking it through the floor.

    • +1

Dont forget the memory card as well.
This is what i bought https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B07B984HJ5/ref=ppx_yo_mob_…

      • Yea, I was looking at that. But need to add something else from Intl that I can cancel after placing the order. Or if someone here wants to go halfsies with me, in Syd, I can get two. Or more.

    • +1

Filters work very well…worth the money to avoid a lot of bright glare captures IMO
