Auspost Courier Cursing at My Partner (in Arabic) with Every Delivery?

About a month ago my partner (works night shifts) was awoken by our regular Australia post parcel courier (not the one who delivers mail). He waited for about 10 seconds and started to walk back to his car and threw a card on the ground. She came outside and apologised as she was sleeping and got the package. He basically accosted her and told her it's not his fault and she should have chosen safe drop — even though the parcel said signature always required. He was very verbally aggressive.

This was all captured on video and we reported it, and Auspost said they "addressed it" but didn't ask for the video or respond with anything other than a form email . Since then every single time he rings the doorbell we think he is cursing at us but cant tell. Like I would understand if he does it once, but literally every time he just yells it out when ringing her doorbell.

I was hoping that someone who speaks Arabic could help us out and maybe someone who also works for Auspost lol. It seems like he is also listening to the news or whatever, but literally whenever he rings the doorbell he says what I'm pretty sure are not very nice words (eg calling her a wh*re or b-tch). I don't think he is talking to anyone else (which might be an excuse but you still don't curse if you're working), but it also sounds like he's listening to the radio so at first i thought he was getting excited over sports or something.

In addition to this, he basically chucks the cards on our front porch and they blow away (35 seconds in) so we don't always know if we have a parcel. You can see in the first part of the video where he just throws the card on the porch, when the mailbox is right by the gate. And literally always walks on my grass lol, but really that's the least of the problems.

It's got to the point where she's told me she doesn't feel safe opening the door. We are worried about retaliation for reporting this. Luckily our cameras record to the cloud, in 4K and always have a LTE backup lol.

Anyways those of you who speak Arabic please have a watch and let me know what you think……..

I have redacted his face for privacy which was harder than it seems.

This is a youtube compilation over several days:

UPDATE:

AusPost has reached out and been very understanding and they were also horrified and aghast. They apologised and I have been informed the driver has been suspended this morning, then they let me know just a short while ago that he has been terminated as of this afternoon.

They couldn't have been more apologetic and I appreciate their help. They didn't even ask me about removing the video, but I think it's the right thing to do so I have made it private as the matter has been resolved.

Jokes on you, YouTube played ads first.

        • I would take this banger over YouTube ads

      • That delivery driver was ricky?….. Omg…. Thats terrible….

    • +2

There is a lot of prejudice around, and a bit in this thread.

To be fair though, the driver was treated more respectfully than the way he treated others.

    • +11

OP (me) has had this footage reviewed by australia post, and about 40 people on here some of who are native speakers. I vaguely recalled the word as being a swear word, but couldn't be sure. If you had actually seen the footage you would see the demeanour and attitude in general of this man were not one of kindness.

Also a few friends now confirm this is not coincidental. So please spare me the prejudice card. This has nothing to do with race, ethnicity or anything else. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

      • -1

The video has been conveniently removed. So not a chance. Which brings all this void of evaluation.

Now, are you (as in plural) from an Arabic background?
And then clashed with the courier ethnicity?
I wouldn't care to know the background of anyone delivering. Let alone what she/he says to the thin air.
        Unless …

A lot is missing in this, your version of events. Why you, why the delivery person. Out of millions in Australia.

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

        Yes, including the delivery person.

        • +1

Even though your comment is hidden I'm going to reply to it, we have had zero interactions with the driver until about a month ago as described above. Even that encounter was captured on camera.

What my background is — or his for that matter has no bearing on this. I don't care if he speaks english, arabic, or pig latin. If you are ringing someone's doorbell and calling them a whore that needs to be called out.

I'm assuming that Auspost has treated the driver with due process and respect.

Sorry to insist but if the "insult" comes in a form I do not comprehend then the insult does not exist.

Will a barking dog offend you?

Obliviously this has been unpleasant to you both so, as a sign of respect I will not write anything else in this thread.

Hope all this is quickly forgotten.

            • @LFO: Oral communication includes verbal and non-verbal cues.

The stroppy behaviour and the Arabic word used together by the postie got the OP to google/ozbargain it. He and his wife definitely comprehended the meaning and intent of the insults.

So what point are you trying to make?????

    • Do you think the bloke was saying - the weather is lovely today'….

    • Assuming you are implying this was some kind of compliment, I presume you would not mind if somebody said to you "your mother is such a beautiful sharmuta!".

      Without prejudice of course.

      • -2

if somebody said to you "your mother is such a beautiful sharmuta!".

As that word "sharmutal" means nothing, neither in English nor to me I wold think the speaker is retarded or severely mentally ill.
Wouldn't care to "analyze" what she/he meant.
Wouldn't be looking for an argument or to hate.
        Wouldn't seek a vendetta.

As an example, the Mitsubishi "Pajero" translates to wan@er, or to someone that masturbate.
Would "Pajero" owners feel offended and outraged ???????

        • +1

Stop playing stupid, maybe my English transliteration/spelling is not correct but you very well know what is the meaning of the word if you have Arabic background - if Google can return half a dozen references (and google translate accepts it too) all pointing to same/similar meaning (e.g. whore/bitch) it is hard to infer that he was calling her lady/pretty/Miss. The intent was to offend - full stop.

Few people pointed out that if you check the revisions of the original post - you will find the link in the first one. But if that is too hard, I'm happy to send you the link in private message so you cannot claim ignorance anymore.

            I don't.

And please don't resource to insults to try to in the argument.
I always thought the Arabic tradition is for respectful dialogue. Showing wisdom not vulgarity.

I always thought the Arabic tradition is for respectful dialogue. Showing wisdom not vulgarity.

Lol, do you live under a rock?

            • @LFO: I did not resort to insults, I called out what I perceived as bigoted comment/position after you repeatedly rejected to acknowledge that such behavior by courier guy is absolutely unacceptable, and instead tried to make further excuses (e.g. your "pajero" example).

My position is that everyone should be treated with respect regardless whether they are courier, cleaner, food delivery guy etc… But respect is a two way street, and this guy went out of his way to be disrespectful it did not happen once, it was not "c'mon maybe he had a bad day…"

        • +2

@lfo it doesn't matter what you would do in the situation. You're not the one having an aggressive postie rock up at your doorstep calling your wife a slut etc. You're also not the diminutive female worried about your safety when the dude is calling you a slut.

I don't understand all this weird beta male stuff going on in so many of your comments.

You're literally saying, from the perspective of the OP

'Oh it's ok, he's calling my wife a slut from the front door but we shouldn't be offended.'

That's bizarre and not something most of us would take.

It's not what auspost tolerates either cos the guy got fired.

  • +4

Not sure why the race card was brought up by weirdos when clearly what the guy did was unacceptable in Australia.

I had no idea that right or wrong depended upon your race, so if you were a minority you could….. inflict whatever evil you wanted because of the racism shield?

    FFS

    • Redacted, I'm an idiot :)

    • when your pay is based on number of packages you deliver.

Depends on who they actually work for.

I have a friend who transitioned from bikie postie to parcel delivery, and he tells me they get a fixed rate of pay, and if a parcel doesn't get delivered, it goes back to the depot for the next day.

I asked him why they didn't just wait for the person to answer the door, as this would mean less work they had to do, and he told me that he did wait, for that very reason.

To expect everyone to be at home to receive a delivery, and even then not waiting longer than a few seconds for them to appear is just plain idiotic. Certainly no reason to be negative towards them.

I have a Ubiquiti setup here which is fantastic and then another from Avigilon at my other property. It's not stuff you would routinely install at home, but the Unifi is fantastic.

The Avigilon is another layer but definitely not for beginners or for that matter DIY.

You can use their (Unifi) cheaper cameras if you want and the quality is good too. Just not 4K 60fps bank teller quality which is what I wanted — hence the G4 pros.
Plus you can use a standalone viewport poe and have camera "displays" in the house or business with just PoE (power over ethernet).

Cameras aren't the be-all end all of good security but they are a part. The G4s even literally light up blue at night if you want to tell people they are there. Covert vs. Overt tale as old as time. Ultimately it's about good lighting, cameras, making people aware they are being recorded. If someone is going to cause you damage well that's going to happen no matter what.

Eufy is also good as you dont pay a fee if you don't want and the setup is easy. Then there is Nest and arlo etc. But the problem is some only record on motion — or what the AI thinks is motion. So you could miss something. I wanted 24x7 recording.

      • Yea the motion on record not working is a worry. Just had a driver leave a package that required signature and fedex customer service didn't seem to give two shits. Proof of stuff like this would be great but i don't want to spend big on storage

    • The cameras are Ubiquiti Unifi Protect G4 Pro.

I actually cannot believe some of the users on here trying to justify the drivers horrid behaviour.
If this happened to your daughter or wife or mother, and she was clearly being targeted with derogatory terms by a delivery man you too would be pissed off.

Legit cannot believe people are backing this driver up on this one. Disgusting by some of the users.

hahahaha this guy is Egyptian for sure i have an Egyptian friend he sounds exactly like him when he talks on the phone, although my Egyptian friend is a super nice guy

  • +1

lol. Just a young bloke with attitude. Typical in the north where we live, not that shocked by it. He just needs some attitude correction, obviously disrespectful to the opposite gender the way he may have been bought up.

Most likely he told HR to fk off when they talked to him

    • It wouldn't have even made it to hr

  • If this is how he acts at work, you can tell he's just as much of a pig In public with radio blaring and no regard to anyone else and the general attitude towards westerners

    • +4

Believe me he will have exactly the same attitude to easterners. Some people are simply a-holes.

      • i wouldnt be opening the door to someone that loud in a language idk

  • There is no video. The one uploaded earlier is now marked private… sharmoota

  • So basically if you never have videos these days they wouldnt of done anything… (profanity). Now I want to buy a security cam for my front door. Delivery man from AusPost keeps sending it to my neighbour and its pissing him off everytime I go over to ask for it…

    Now for a dashcam next.

I just figured… Now that he's fired. What stops him from coming back to your house? Sketch as.

    • pretend everywhere has cams, not even your own home is safe, but it is safest

    • +4

Yeah look, we thought long and hard about this. IE what if there is retaliation etc. Every square inch of the property has 4K camera FOV so it would be pretty stupid. I won't go into other security measures.

Ultimately it's just about treating people with respect, and how you would treat your mother etc. If he was doing this to us, are we the only ones?

      • Disgusting people like him don't think about consequences though (obviously lol) so cameras are not much of a deterrent for them. If I owned the home I mean think more about it, but if I rented I'd move. Better than waking up to the smell of unleaded with him about to flick a lit match at your missus.

      • Yeah man, I've now gotten dashcam because of dashcam Austalia. People are just too strange and shit nowadays. Seems like people are getting more (profanity)-ish in recent times. Esp after COVID which is ashame.

A jobs a job. Do it professionally.

Nice result and great cam setup OP.

  • -1

Were there videos of him actually swearing directly at someone or are the videos of him just saying the swear words to himself as there is no-one else around?

Other question to play devils advocate , was there an altercation with him before all this as right now we only have selected video clips and one side of the story.

    • +1

      P/s: I didnt neg you.
I don’t know if you saw the video but he was constantly saying the gender-specific swear words, as confirmed by multiple commenters, out loud next to OP’s windows and door.
It did seem like the postal worker wasn’t affraid to be heard (probably counting on OP/whoever in the house not understanding the words). In my eye that would intimidate anyone in the house at the time and the OP/their partner feeling uncomfortable/threatened is completely justified.

Honestly, no excuses justify the postie’s behaviour.
You can’t argue that aggressive behaviours in public are a-okay if they’re not directed to anyone.
E.g. imagine seeing footage of your babysitter acting like this in your house while your child is sleeping. Would you hire them again?

was there an altercation with him before all this as right now we only have selected video clips and one side of the story.

Yeah nah, the hypothetical prior altercation doesn’t justify their behaviour either.

      • -5

Like i mentioned I was playing Devils Advocate and prior altercations can definitely change behaviour expectations IF they were doing it when no-one else was around.

For instance if someone had physically or verbally abused them many times already, then after a while every time they went back to that location, they may be saying to themselves. (swear words i am back here again damn swear words, ) Working in IT, I have seen some of my colleagues after getting a request from a user who has abused them many times in the past, swearing to themselves as they go to the users office to try to help the user with his new request / issue. Is it professionaly, probably not but they only do it in front of the rest of the IT team and / or in front of no-one but themselves. The only video i saw was clips of the guy saying stuff when no-one else is around and hence it looked like he was swearing to himself. But hard to say perhaps he was saying it loud enough for people inside to hear. Definitely not professional but there can always be other circumstances that led to the situation being like that.

People do all sorts of things to relieve stress or worry or in situations they dont know how to deal with especially if they thing they are doing it privately (no-one else around). At times if something major goes wrong at my work place with one of the IT servers. And I am there trying to fix it in the server room, I may swear to myself since there is noone else around or if its just me and a close colleague we both may swear when we see a major issue pop up, doesnt mean we are saying it to each other or to someone who is on the outside of the server room.

I was asking for clarification because the only video i saw was clips and all of them only had the courier and no-one else there. And from what i have seen, video clips is a dangerous item as its easy to use it to only show the picture you want to show and not the full story / picture. What seems like one person beating up another if you see the video from the halfway point if you end up rewinding it , you may see the other person came at him with a knife and he was defending himself. Its all about the story.

I am not saying thats what happened here or the postie was right or the OP was wrong. I am just stating on a forum with only one side of the story and edited video clips, its hard to be judge, jury and executioner.

    • +5

Makes no difference. You can think anything you like about a person. But you don't get to stand in someone's yard openly saying things aloud like: "Package, ya slut." without consequence. Because he's representing Australia Post… getting paid to do a job… to be their ambassador so to speak - and that job doesn't involve saying disgusting things aloud to amuse his own fragile ego, which others could inadvertently hear.

    • +2

      Found the postie.

    • +3

Yes they should. Do nothing and it not only makes them a doormat, but emboldens him to disrespect more customers, opening the door to even worse behaviour. (It may also have resulted in him being seriously injured one day himself.) Some people need a hard wake up call before they finally realise it's them with the real problem - not everyone else around them.

    • +5

The person who lost his job can use this as an opportunity to change their behaviour in future jobs. There’s a learning in it for him that disrespectful language targeted at someone, particularly sexist language is not considered acceptable.

      • -1

It read to me as speculation as to what the delivery person was actually saying.
I would just ignore it, or mention it personally if I had an issue. It's about 10 seconds out of a day.
I guess I have thicker skin and I'd just brush it off. Merry Xmas. xo

        • +1

It's not speculation, watch the video.

No one needs to put up with a postie walking up to their door and calling them a slut loudly through their front door.

Why would you suffer such disrespectful behaviour at your doorstep?

  • +1

OP good job. Don't need to feel guilty about the douchebag losing his job.

  • +1

I'm amazed they fired him actually, though maybe "suspended" is code for a temporary paid holiday to stave off a lawsuit, before being allocated a new area. Give it a few years and Australia will be like England, where the mayor outlaws posters of women in swimwear, and if you complain about being disrespected, sworn at, and designated a slut, you are the one who gets arrested while the real offender sues his employer.

We haven't quite become that brainwas uhm, I mean, "enlightened" as most of Europe yet.

    • +2

I think they are all contractors so the relationship is pretty loose. I'm sure he'll be delivering my couriers please or Amazon flex parcels soon enough.

      • +1

Not all of them are contractors. Red van drivers are directly employed by Aus Post.

  • Grubs like this don't need their face blurred

    • +4

No, with cancel culture being what it is, that dude's face should be blurred.
