Prusa MK3S+ 3D Printer (Kit) with Satin Sheet and 1kg Prusament PETG Orange PLNzł2,767.77 (~A$930) Delivered @ PrusaResearch

270

EDIT: Prusa now only accepts bank transfer when purchasing in PLN. Your mileage will vary as to whether your bank exchange rate will push it over $1,000AUD for import duty purposes. Worth noting that customs don't use the exchange rate you pay to your bank, but use a daily set rate when calculating the value for duty purposes.

Great Black Friday deal for anyone considering a Prusa Mk3s+. Deal includes:

  • Prusa Mk3s+ Kit
  • Free worldwide shipping (usually ~$105 AUD).
  • Free 1kg Prusament PETG Prusa Orange (usually ~$42 AUD plus shipping)
  • Free satin sheet (usually ~$63 AUD plus shipping)
  • No import duty or GST (usually ~$200-300 AUD see below)

To get the above price shipped and NOT pay any import duty/GST you need to change the currency on the order page to Polish ZLN (not USD!). With the current exchange rates this brings the printer in at around $930AUD, less than the import duty cut off of $1000AUD so no import duty or GST (Prusa are not registered for GST in Australia). Use a credit card with no foreign currency conversion fees.

This deal is popular so lead in times will probably be a few weeks. They use DHL and Fedex express so postage speed to Oz is decent. I got mine within 5 days of it being shipped last month.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2021

Wow this is actually an amazing price and to not have to futz around with customs duties is incredible.
I bought one of these after by getting it shipped to USA and then going on holiday there to carry it back in my luggage as doing all that was still cheaper than getting it shipped directly to Australia (minus the holiday costs of course).

I'd recommend this printer for two kinds of people. Those who already have an Ender or similar and are just tired of fiddling with it to get it to do what you want. Or those who are interested in buying a high quality printer once for the quality of components and support and never buying another one again (lol).

    • +3

Yep - agree on both recommendations. My CR10s is forever needing tweaks and is now gathering dust - Prusa going 24/7. So good to actually have a printer than just works straight out of the box and is set and forget.

  • Anyone else get the problem where the only payment option on the checkout page is "Wire transfer"? Seems bizarre.

BTW the free delivery option is Fedex, DHL is only available as a paid option.

    • +1

Yeah, seems to be the only option when selecting Polish ZLN as the currency.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming. Just put my order through and can confirm that the "Wire transfer" option is for an international bank transfer with no option to pay via credit card or PayPal. I'm on hold with their support chat at the moment, I'll post an update after I talk to them.

        • +1

Very interested to see what their support chat says thank you.

          • +1

@drifta83: Update: bad news everyone, this is what Prusa support said:

So in the new e-shop, it is not possible to change to credit card payment, I am truly sorry. Once the payment gate closes, it is not possible to reaccess it again. We do not currently offer PayPal payments. I believe the fastest way to proceed would be for you to cancel your order and quickly place a new one with the correct payment option.

So it's a no-go, choosing ZLN automatically disallows credit card payments.

(for those wondering why I don't just do the bank transfer, my bank charges extortionate fees for international transfers and has a crap conversion rate)

            • +1

@deadpoet: Thank you for the update, I guess I will just save my money. I was looking forward to another mk3s+ lol

              • +1

@drifta83: Me too, lol. I love my MK3, was looking forward to a 2nd one so I can prototype stuff more quickly. Ah well.

I actually just looked up my bank details to see how much it would cost to do the international bank transfer, and it turns out my bank doesn't even offer PLN as a destionation currency, bah. I guess a 3rd party service is an option if anyone is still really keen.

                • +1

@deadpoet: So I ended up doing a wire transfer through NAB seeing as commbank did not want to make it easy. Came to $981 AUD, I am happy with that price since my previous MK3s+ cost me Just under $1600 delivered from a Australian company.

                • @deadpoet: I tried Wise, and it did not work.
I will also be trying revolute if my bank wont do it.

        • +1

I ended up submitting my order with the Wire Transfer option and will be using OFX for the transfer. I’ve used them before and they support PLN.

          • @surly: I tried comm bank, doesn't support pln to Czech online. Tried wise, doesn't support the account id. Currently used OFX to transfer and it seems to be processing OK.

            • @dorz: & @surly

Just a question about OFX if you don't mind.

Did you end up using buying the PRUSA with OFX, and did it work out to be under $1k AUD.

              Thanks in advance

                @Ausdave: Hey Ausdave,

This is what mine is looking like now. You effectively lock it in with a spot price, then BPAY / DD ofx the aud amount. They will then transfer it into PLN and deposit it into the recipient account

                Foreign Currency Amount: PLN 2,767.77
At a Rate of 1 AUD equals: PLN 2.9032
AUD Cost Excl. Fees: AUD 953.35
                Total Fees: AUD 15.00
                Total amount owing: AUD 968.35

                • @dorz: Thanks heaps.

I've private messaged you if you don't mind :)

                  • +1

@Ausdave: @Ausdave - dorz is correct: You book a spot price, then transfer to ofx, then they forward the funds. Yes I will be paying under $1K AUD but will still keep my fingers crossed as the $1K GST threshold will likely be tested using the FX rate at the time the package arrives. But the rate would have to drop below 2.77 for that to occur and that hasn't happened since Dec 2020.

                    • +1

                      @surly: Thanks.

Fingers crossed for all of us it will be under $1k.

I'm sure we'll report back here in the post :)

Can't wait to get my one

                      • +1

@Ausdave: Mine arrived this morning at about 11am. The FedEx flight landed last night so no customs processing delays at all.

On the other hand, it is now sitting under the xmas tree so I can’t open it!

                        • @surly: That's awesome!

Unfortunately I've had a crap time with customer service.

They still haven't linked my payment to the order (even after 4 separate support chats).

They kept promising they'll update me but nothings happening haha.

The Prusa is just a want more than a need, as I already have 6 printers.

                          • +1

@Ausdave: I waited a week and had to chase them through a chat, providing the ofx payment confirmation as evidence, before it was marked paid the next day. Keep chasing.

                            • @surly: Yeah I did the exact same thing.

I'll just keep hassling them until something happens.

The printer was dirt cheap compared to local, so it's a little compromise I guess.

    • +2

Well that sucks - will update the post. I paid via credit card just last week with PLN… this change must have happened since then.

      • +1

They must've noticed a bunch of people doing the same and tightened their rules. Thanks for posting anyway, just a bummer it couldn't last.

      • +2

It changed in the last few hours I believe. Was planning to order earlier got to checkout and cc/paypal was listed. But now it isn't. Can see there may have been a few additional buys interest from Aussies if they were able to drop it below $1000. The Euro comes in at 998.68 or something close to that, but look at guidelines for how foreign currency is taxed on imports you'd be rolling the dice.

      • Yes but their knowledge base has not been updated and support chat was of no help.

  • +2

Yeah getting the same problem with wire transfer being the only payment option. Had to get my order cancelled. You have to change currency to the majors (usd, gbp or eur), but those are more expensive in aud terms.
Anyone found a way to keep the price below 1000 aud?

  • Woah great price, I bought last black Friday for over 1000 Aud delivered and I thought that was good.

  • Anyone know if something like Western Union can be used for the wire transfer?

    • +2

I have a MK3 already. Just bought another. I phoned ANZ as I couldn't do it online (send PNL to Czech) and they sorted it all. Cost me $961.

  • I've got the non-plus version (mk3s), and it is indeed a reliable workhorse. Very happy with it.

  • Don't they just charge you the gst at customs though? I can't honestly remeber when it was, dhl wouldn't hand over the parcel until I paid the gst.

    • +3

No, they only charge GST on items over $1k at the border. Items below $1k the GST is charged by the seller at the time of purchase (if they are registered for GST). They do it this way as otherwise it would be a nightmare stopping every single package at the border no matter the value. Of course they do randomly stop packages with a declared value of less than $1k. I recently had this happen and customs held it for 2 weeks asking for invoices, proof of payment and links to the value of the items. The value was borderline (I paid $950 all up). Customs released the package after I provided the info, no GST nor import duty was charged.

    Thanks OP. I ordered one!

Using a service like CurrencyFair will give you a better exchange rate than banks.

If you join CurrencyFair, use the referral code and an OzBargainer and you will both get €50.

Here is the CurrencyFair page for OzBargain

    • Thank you for the tip about CurrencyFair — I used the OzB referral link but I didn't get €50, hopefully some lucky OzBargainer got theirs.

Ended up costing me AUD $939.27 for PLN 2777.77 (including a PLN 10 processing fee), fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly from here.

      • +1

In the referral T&Cs it says you need to send €2,000 in one transaction for the bonus. Still seems like a cost-effective service though!

        • Ah I see, thank you for clarifying that. Yep, their exchange rate is really good, seems to be the best one so far.

          • @deadpoet: I did the same as you, but guess I got a slightly worse rate ($944.88). I'm slightly worried the exchange rate will worsen during the day or two it takes to process, and the PLN amount will end up a bit short. I wonder how tolerant Prusa is of that.

            • +1

@Yarkin: Did you convert the AUD to PLN as a separate currency exchange action, before you sent it to Prusa's bank account? Apparently if you try and do it all in one go, the exchange rate fluctuates and isn't guaranteed, whereas if you manually exchange the exact amount first, it's supposed to lock it in.

CurrencyFair did warn that the receiver's bank can sometimes deduct a fee and that will reduce the total amount that they receive, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

              • +1

@deadpoet: That would have been smart!
The interface just kind of guided me straight to the transfer. But I've cancelled that now and will do the exchange first.

  • +2

    Thanks OP.

Ended up paying $979.29 OFX service and ANZ international transfer.

I already have seven Ender 3 printers lol, but couldn't resist the deal (bloody $1.6k to buy locally).

  • +1

Noooooooo the AUD is dropping so fast now. My MK3S+ isn't due to ship until 5-6 weeks from now. At this rate, the foreign exchange rate when it arrives here in Australia will probably push the amount to over 1000 AUD :(

Hopefully the rest of you will get your printers before the AUD drops any more.

  • Has anyone who put an order through with a wire transfer had the status of the order updated yet?

    • +1

Mine was updated to paid at 2am this morning. Their orders team don't work over the weekends, I messaged the live chat and sent through my ofx confirmation last night.

    • +1

Mine is still marked as unpaid.
OFX has been completed and I Messaged the live chat team as well and uploaded a receipt of the OFX transfer.
fingers crossed its approved this week.

  • +1

Thanks OP for this awesome deal.
I just received mine this morning without any problem with custom

  • +1

    Just got mine delivered today.

  • I just received my MK3S+ kit today — piece 1 of 2 that is, I think the Prusament filament and extra satin sheet is arriving separately later for some reason. Shipped on 21 December and arrived today, 24 December. Be aware that the FedEx delivery estimate can be off, they were estimating 29 December originally and only updated suddenly today when it arrived in-country.

No customs fees or taxes, nice. Cost me AUD $939.27 in total via CurrencyFair. Thanks again to @perf for posting this great deal.

Something to note for the future: my order was listed as Unpaid for the longest time (a few weeks) within the Prusa shop system, even after I did a live chat with their customer support who said they would update it shortly. I'm guessing they only update your order status a few days before it ships. As long as you got the email confirmation from Prusa that they received your deposit, you're good. Your order will be changed to Paid and then it'll ship.

And a note for CurrencyFair: you have to complete the payment in 2 steps, the first step is to convert the AUD to the relevant PLN amount, and be sure to include the processing fee, which is PLN 10. So it was PLN 2777.77 in total.

The second step is then to send the PLN to the Prusa bank account. If you try to do it all in 1 step, the currency exchange rate can fluctuate and they can't guarantee that the receiver will actually get the full PLN 2767.77 amount, so always do the currency exchange first in order to lock in the rate, before sending the money.

  • Received mine today, 2 packages as mentioned. No customs or taxes. Perfect timing for the long weekend to put it together. Thanks OP.
