  • Sounds like my Mazda. Suitable for 19 Mazda3? Mine is 2 years now, I feel I may need it soon.

    • Did some research q85 and q85 Mf both works.

    • yours may still be under warranty. Mazda gave me a free new battery in my 30k service for my Mazda 3 2018.

      • oh, that's cool. going to have my service next week.

    mines a 2017 neo -
You can do a search after you have put your car details in with out sign up and see what battery they offer maybe the same

    • I also added our Rego/2017 CX5 and it's suggesting this battery is compatible

Out of curiosity, can't you turn off the stop/start function if you don't like it? We have a Mazda CX9 and you can disable it.

    • +2

There is a button you have to press every time you turn on the car to turn off the stop start function. You can disable it if you Jam a piece of plastic so the button is always pressed that works well so you don't need to turn it off every time. Fuel economy doesn't seem to change that much with it disabled anyway.
On a side note I was wondering if you need a stop start battery if the stop start function is disabled?

      • Where is this button?

      • If you disable it, you don't need a S/S battery. I've got a S/S battery but I just don't push the brakes too hard (most of the time) and it doesn't come on.

      • Ah I see, that's good to know! I did a quick google of "mazda how to permanently disable istop" and the solution is very clear in the youtube videos that pop up - though personally I'm happy with stop/start.

For the benefit of others though, it looks like there's 2 ways to disable istop permanently, again google and detailed instructions are in the top hits:
        1. Extremely easy way: jam a piece of paper next to the iStop button next to the driver's side steering wheel
        2. Easy way (step by step instructions are very clear on youtube): detach a bonnet sensor

Surely most modern small engine cars only idle at 650 rpm whist idling and mine only uses .6 litres an hour. I personally think it's all marketing B.S. the way they make you feel that you are saving on petrol.

    • Most newer models, it turns on automatically at start and needs to be constantly turned off each time. Most cars in general are like this, force it to be "economic"

      • Force? Jeez push the button it takes like 1 second. Or just brake cleverly so it doesn’t activate

        • I meant they make it by default on, so they can state economic fuel/consumption numbers.

Ive learnt to brake cleverly. My VW also has the same altho is right beside the push to start.

  • I don't suppose anyone knows if this will work in a CX-5 (2016 which has iStop too). Just happens that the car computer is randomly showing battery management warning this week!

Punch in your rego at the car icon in the top right corner. If it helps, my CX-5 diesel takes a Century - T110 MF ISS

      • Ah how did I not see that option, apparently it is suitable!! Thank you!

FYI, you don't 'have' to get a stop/start battery. I got a normal one for my MIL and my parents Mazda 3's.
I permanently disabled stop/start by disconnecting a switch under the bonnet. It makes the car think the bonnet is open, which disables stop/start.
Nothing comes up on the dash and you never have to push the button again.

    • Can you explain more about disconnecting a switch under the bonnet?

      • +1

Sorry. I did this a few years ago and neither car is with me at the moment, so I can't remember exactly where the switch is. I found this on a German Mazda forum:
In the hood lock is a small switch, which mediates whether the hood is open for maintenance purposes. The i-Stop is disabled for maintenance purposes. The switch is fixed with a screw and has a plastic pin that sits in a bore. Loosen the screw, turn the switch so that the pin sits next to the hole and screw on again. Now it is no longer pressed with the hood closed and the i-Stop is permanently deactivated!

Since there is [no ‘hood open” light in the cluster], there is also no error message!

The car will run with a standard battery but the charging characteristics may be different and you wouldn’t know if the car is still charging it to the optimal voltage or not.

      • you sound paranoid
        .

  • For the yet to be aware Mazda 3 owners (that's me), what's up with the the battery? I have a 2020 Mazda3, bought about a year and a half ago, should I be thinking about this?

    • Stop Start - Battery Dies Early and Lights come on dash. The benefit of fuel saving is is wasted on a new battery
Car still starts battery dying a slow death and Mazda Battery $300+
stop start cannot be disabled permanently by Normal means ( as in press a button )
Can be disabled but resets every time you start the car.

In our suburu Impreza I shoved a folded up bit of cardboard into the stop start button in order to permanently disable it.You could do it through re wiring but I’m lazy and not a handyman’s rsehole
