  • Cheapest I have ever seen them from memory. These are very well regarded as one of the best headphones in this price range.

Amazon will have to handle all the warranty claim if you purchase this way, as the HIFIMAN store on Amazon won't help you directly. This could mean it needs to be shipped back to the UK to be serviced.

Would also be worth waiting for cashbacks, and to contrast this against the brand new HIFIMAN Edition XS, which is apparently thrashing everything around this price point.

    • Hey jasswolf everyone you really seem to know your headphones. I am looking for something that’s a step up from my Sennheiser 598. I have a 600 as well but it suffers in soundstage (gets everything else right). Would something like the Sundara suit the sound I am after? I also tried a LCD 2c the sound was more relaxed I liked it but couldn’t spend enough time with it and it’s a lot more dough

      • Keep an eye out for Edition XS reviews, otherwise you're climbing up to the $1000+ range. Sundara does some things better than the 600 and the 650, but not without compromises.

With the exception of the 598, your stack will be important for any of the options we're discussing here.

        • I have a couple of good amps and dacs - Schiit magni, Schitt Lyr and a PS audio sprout which I use as my DAC. I’m tempted to try the 560s it’s supposed to be the sweet spot between the 598 and 600 and almost worth trying at the price it is. I’m willing to get something more expensive but A2A seem to have no BF deals on Audeze and Focal. Audeze seem to be sold at retail everywhere.

Edit: I should mention I’m not a bass head I like clean sound that’s airy (treble) and good mids like the 600. I do prefer the 598 over the 600 in some tracks but mostly because of their bigger soundstage. The bass vocals and treble on the 600 otherwise are way better.

          • @bindok: It's hard to beat Sennheiser mids and vocals without sticking to Sennheiser, but I get the impression you might not enjoy the 560S that much due to the heat it can have from 2-5kHz.

Edition XS still seems like the play, otherwise you might want to look into the HD 800S for an airer signature, maybe the updated Arya (v3/Stealth Edition).

Everything else is going to be subjective and drifting away from consensus, or just plain expensive.

            • @jasswolf: Thanks I’ll keep an eye out for the edition xs before going into the 800s territory. The Arya is intriguing but the build quality really bothers me for a headphone that costs 2k. The Audezes on the other hand are built like tanks.

        • I couldn't find any reviews for the edition xs. Could you find any?

          • +1

@happydragon: I'm only seeing early impressions, it was only released 3 weeks ago, and in China only. The point is the Sundara is likely being dethroned, so to sit tight and wait for further info.

Oh and by the way: the Khadas Tone:2 has gone up 25% in cost (and thus price), so RIP that option for you.
