Triple California Classic $5 looks like a deal. Wish you had stores near me!

    • got 3 within a 10 minute drive here in Melb. Whereabouts are you?

      • +3

That’s cuz Melbourne has 10 stores, and Sydney I believe has only one.

        • Cries in WA

        • Just checked its 6…. 3 in the outer northern suburbs which is weird tbh. Might be franchises owned by the same people/business group.

      • Sydney

  • The waffle fries and small coke they let me swap for regular fries, 80c to upgrade to large fries.

    • +1

I'd rate their waffle fries > normal fries

  • +7

They'd need to have specials.. tried it few mths ago, was nearly 40 bux for 2 "meals"…
    wont be heading back.

    • Besides the price, were the burgers better?

      • +4

Tried the one near me a few weeks back. The burger tasted like a really fresh HJs whopper. The nuggets aren't good, the chips are OK. The sundays taste like pauls ice cream with coles generic chocolate syrup - also not worth.

Loved the burger, wasn't a fan of the rest. Tastes may vary of course.

        • Agree with everything you've written

    • Should’ve got 2x tradie meals for ~$28?

      • Novice mistake - wasn't looking at prices, was looking at the burgers on offer.

        • I'd never imagine an ozbargainer might do it in that order.

    • made that mistake as well… bought two "fancy" burgers eg, angus and a hawaiian chicken meals. For like $4 more could have got the meal for four/four combos.

    • Can't be worse than Five Guys. The burgers were actually garbage and it cost like $60 for two "meals"

  • Jealous Taswegian here - how is Carl's Jr?

    • +5

It's literally hungry jacks… don't be jealous, the meat tastes exactly the same as hungry jacks meat I promise

      • Their deals look a bit better than Hungries. I have heard similar to the above that the meals add up though.

      • I thought the same, we drove out to try it because I had Carl's Jr in the US and it was pretty good. When we ate it here we wondered whether or not they literally just sold the branding rights to whoever owns HJ's and (profanity) slapped Carl's Jr on top of an existing HJ store, it's that similar

    • +1

      You’re not missing anything.

    • +2

Really not impressive. Wouldn't go out of my way to get Carl Jr's. Taste about the same as Hungry Jacks.

  • They post deals every single week on their app. I wonder why this one made it to the front page. It's nothing special.

I've tried that chicken burger. While not terrible, it's small and won't fill you up. Not worth it imo.

    • +1

Then the real question is not why this one made it to the front page but: why didn't you post the other ones?

      • +2

So he can be first in line

  • Could you get the triple California classic and the secret snack at the same time as a $7 full meal?

    • Yes

  • +2

I expect them to crash hard and retreat from Australia. I give them a couple years.
Ballarat has been open for around a year.. Hardly anyone there now… Usually a ghost town.
Nuggets are awful, chicken "sandwich" has a strange chewy texture to them that makes them not especially nice. The beef burgers are ok but just seem to be overpriced Hungry Jack's.

    • The Cranbourne store usually has people there at all times, not hugely busy, but constant. The biggest issue I have is the wait. Sometimes I'm waiting 10 minutes for my drive through order. Worst was 20 minutes for pancakes. I literally could have made my own at home in the time I was waiting.

I don't know much about Carl's, I have no real interest in going to a Carl's, but by God, the dedication OP has to their brand, honestly makes me more interested in trying them than any amount of advertising would have otherwise.

Nearest one is half an hour odd away though :'(

    • +2

I haven’t tried it either, but I’m waiting for the day when OP ramps up his fanboi advertising campaign and starts sending out gift cards or something. It can’t be long now…

  • Their burgers are OK imo. The fries and waffle fries are meh. I still rate KFC as #1, followed by maccas.

  • They need to ditch the star nuggets. I've never had a chicken nugget taste of nothing like they do. Their tenders are awesome though.

Better off going to HJ's IMO. Their beef burgers taste the same, they have better chips, nuggets and onion rings, and the chicken they put on their burgers isn't as thing as a sheet of paper.

They'll get me in if they do a good deal on tenders though.

  • A rich man's Hungry jacks… really wasn't worth buying a regular meal for $18 🤔
Onion rings were very good but burger wise I've had more flavour from a Coles bbq pack.

  • Why are their burgers always cold?
