  • What does it mean by a share of 2 million points? Is it like a raffle?

    • Each member that signs up to a Qantas Red Saver plan during this promotion period and has remained on the Qantas Red Saver plan as at 8am (AEDT) on Tuesday 4 January 2022, will be awarded an equal share of two million Qantas Points with the proportion of Qantas Points awarded to a member being dependent on the number of eligible customers who signed up to Red Energy on a Qantas Red Saver plan during the promotional period.

    • I think it means, 2 mil Qantas points will be shared by X amount of people. If there are 2 mil people joined, you get 1 point…

On top of that, you can earn up to 15k points by doing those 3 bullet points.

    • Let's say 4 people sign up. Each person gets 500,000 points (2 mill divided 4 ways).

Realistically it'll be way more than that, but hey, free points.

Energy Australia dropped Velocity points for me so guess i can start building up a balance with this.. guessing comparable rates.. electricity pricing is stupid.

    • The sheer number of plans does my head in every time I switch.
That must be how they support all of their marketing people working out new "products" - that's an area where costs could be reduced.

      • You really need to check the prices though as they are different for everyone. As you mention, there are some huge differences in pricing in between retailers and even their own plans. \

For me and some family members I've helped with checking their bills, Red Energy is towards the more expensive side of retailers and by quite a margin!

You really do have to add up if the Qantas Points are worth it. Athough it might be easier if you're on a Smart meter, with relatively fast cut over times, you could jump onto this deal and once the points are in your account. Sign up with a cheaper retailer without too much loss in $$$.

Okay if you have AMEX offer and if you can use the Red Energy referral offer with this too.

  • Are there any energy providers that allow API access to query feed-in and use data? Wanting to feed it into Home Assistant.

    • Almost always a day or two behind at best…I've tried this myself. My next plan is something like this: https://antibore.wordpress.com/2012/03/05/monitoring-electri…

      • Good point. I'm currently using an Efergy Elite AC clamp (was part of the monitor setup which since broke) and an SDR radio running on a rpi to 'listen' to the updates, which then feed into Home Assistance via mqtt. A lot more complicated than just getting the data from the provider.

Not sure this is a deal. Comparing this against my current dodo offer (30 % off electricity and 25% off gas usage) it'd cost me around $280 a year more, and I'd earn around 21000-23000 Qantas points, assuming 1000-10000 sign up. That's equivalent to almost 3 Syd- Mel flights + $120. Those flights cost $330 - 630 on Qantas, less elsewhere (eg rex). You are better off getting a better flight deal unless you move to a better energy deal after the first quarter.

    • Yeah I would say you're better off moving afterwards.
