Not that I've checked all sunscreens, but I don't recall any of them quoting the PA level?

      • +1

Could be that AU regulation only relates to SPF and UVB/UVA?

      • +2

PA is an asian sunscreen/european thing. Zinc oxide is a mineral sunscreen and provides high UVA protection (compared to chemical sunscreens which vary depending on filter used).

      • I thought that vitawheat was referring to when a sunscreen states SPF50+ . The + being the PA rating. I am barking up the wrong tree?

        • No that just means "more than"

        • Bigredkey is correct.

Some sunscreens include PA+ rating on their products. The letters “PA” followed by plus signs (PA+, PA++, PA+++, and PA++++) on a label are a rating system developed in Japan to represent how much UVA protection the product offers.

In Australia, we use the term broad-spectrum for sunscreens with both UVA and UVB filters. The UVA component is a mineral-based ingredient such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which can create a white cast, depending on the formulation.

Chemical-based sunscreen absorbs the sun rays (that's why you turn red), turn them into heat, and then release the heat through the skin. While physical/mineral-based sunscreen form a physical barrier that reflects the light rays away from the skin.

If you are interested in Australian sunscreen recommendations, I suggest watching these videos Part 1, Part 2, Aussie sunscreen review playlist

I have been using Korean or Japanese sunscreen for the last 5 years. Their formulations are easy to use, have no white cast, and there are skin-benefiting ingredients as well. Further, they have advanced technology in this area. I have not been burnt while using these products.

Do you own research before buying!

My chinese mobile phone is vegan, no msg, and not tested on animal (i dont think they bother)

    proud

    • i feel like i remember from a long while back that there are animal products in the LCD displays and batteries somehow 🤔

  • -1

Do i eat meat before or after i put this on?

  • Thanks got one.

  • Thought zinc sunscreens aren't ideal?

    • Why is that?

  • +11

Comments getting so riled up because it's a vegan product. I'm happy to support something not tested on lab animals.

    • +1

Sorry, reading through the description, it mentions cruelty free. Which i read as "we didn't shove it in the eyes of an animal". I don't read anywhere it wasn't tested on lab animals.

      Perhaps they used free-range animals?

      • +3

        Only tested on humans!

        • How old were the test subjects? Did you test it on open wounds, eyes, etc?

        • -3

          Such a joke.
Because you havent tested your particular product on animals does not mean it hasn't been tested on animals.
"Lets get something that been tested and proven safe, not bother with tests again and label it no cruelty"

    • Doesn't actually say anywhere that it's not tested on animals - just cruelty free. That could mean anything including putting an animal down quickly that suffers a reaction.

      …just saying…

      • Thank you - will update!

Anyone heard of this company before? Are they legit? People just see a cheap deal and go mad, but would you want to put this on your skin. Some things you just shouldn't cheap out on

    • +1

I have a theory you can post anything from Amazon under $20 and if the price is historically low at the time it will sell out.

    • +1

      Very good question! 😅

    • That is a fair point, I would also like to hear from anyone who has used this before

    • +7

Supplied by VeganicSKN in a TGA approved facility in Brisbane licensed to Advance ZincTek - top 3 largest manufacturers of zinc oxide powder for sunscreen in the world.

Zinc oxide powder made in Australia for sunscreen must comply to TGA standards and be manufactured in a TGA approved facility.

Some brands use imported Zinc Oxide. When the Zinc Oxide is imported the TGA rules around manufacturing do not apply (go figure) as it is already a finished good.

      • thanks, and what is the expiry on these?

        • +1

          2 years ~ JUN 2023

          • +1

@Astivita: Within 12 months after opening?

      • That's interesting, I don't see Astivita listed as an approved manufacturer on the TGA database :)

Although Pfizer, Moderna & J&J are fine to pump whatever they like in your body.

      Makes sense.

      • +1

It's ok, it was all tested on animals

  • +2

keep you protected from the sun while you are trespassing on somebody's farm stealing their livestock.

  • oos

  • I thought zinc oxide was a cancer risk?

  • +1

Sunscreen cause or has an influence on skin cancer

    • -2

*Chemical sunscreen use has been correlated to an increase in skin cancer rates. Most of those active ingredients are petroleum derived, zinc is naturally occuring in your body and crucial to cell vitality.

      • I mean it gives you a false sense of security and you stay out in the sun longer

      • +2

        correlated? That is BS.
State your reference and the size of the sample of people in the test.

  • Im not vegan can i use this?

    • yes

    • smother yourself with lard

    • +4

You can but you'll have to tell everyone about it.

  • +1

    OOS, Ozbargained

  • +2

    Restock in the coming days!
Keep a look out for more ways to tell people you are vegan as we expand our product range!

    • Are you saying it’s only for vegans or that you become veganised once buying it?

  • +3

Because everyone needs to know your a vegan.

    • T-shirt coming to a vegan near you soon

  • Doesn't this lose it's integrity when you rub it on your body made of meat?

    • 😄

  • -4

vegan sunscreen… REALLY? cause thats what we do is eat it by the tube… this is just flat out dumb!

    • Thank you for this valuable and highly insightful contribution to the OzBargain community.

I’m sure I’m not the only member who feels grateful that such a gifted individual would bless us normies with your views on what is or isn’t dumb.

It would be remiss of me if I didn’t at least attempt to point out that many folks who aspire to a Vegan lifestyle prefer not to support the use of any animal products.

For example, most Vegans I know prefer not to wear genuine leather shoes because their production involves the gruesome act of skinning the creature which previously lived in that skin.

TLDR: Veganism isn’t just about what you eat.

      • +1

ok then, well i dont care, i love eating meat, i love the taste of red blood oozing out of my steak. if you are gonna be a flower power loving hippy then go do it on your own, i dont need to see it plastered everywhere.

        • You are obviously very sensitive about this.

Perhaps you could petition Scotty to automatically include a trigger warning before any Vegan oriented content?

  • +1

    thanks bought 5

  • -2

Finally a whale blubber free sunscreen.

  • -1

I didn't know that regular sunscreen wasn't vegan?

  • I'll be sure to grab some before I purchase my vegan Michelin tyres and head to the beach.

  • Only bought cause it was 2 bucks

  • @OP,

What is your ARTG registration number? As the photo showing the product on Amazon is not compliant for sale in Australia.

    Thank you :)

    • I am nowhere associated with the product. Just found a deal - posted it….

  • I looked up the ingredients of some sunscreens and none of the ingredients they mention were in any of them, except for stearic acid, which is also obtained from vegetable fat.

  • +1

    any gluten free options available?
