TOPEX 20V Cordless Impact Drill Driver Combo Kit w/ 2 Batteries Charger Tool Bag $69 Delivered @ Topto via Catch

13

Looking for a replacement drill for a broken Makita and found this on sale at Catch. looks to be decent and seems to retail at $129 elsewhere. Topex also seems to be sold at Harvey Norman. thought I'd post it and see if it's a good deal and if anyone else has any experience with it.

  • “looks to be decent and seems to retail at $129 elsewhere.””

So, how can this be a bargain if it is selling for more than rrp

      sorry, it's 69

Bad idea. Why get no-name junk with no useful warranty?

Just get an Ozito kit from Bunnings, from $100. Then you can add more skins and batteries as needed.

Cannot agree more. ~5 years ago bought a Matrix brand kit for ~$79. It worked just fine for light use, e.g. drill a whole on soft timber etc., until I had to drill quite a few holes in the solid bricks. It simply could not cut as it took hours to drill just around 10 8mm x 50mm holes. Eventually fire came out from the brushes. While I was waiting for new drill, I took apart the drill only to find that there was no way to replace the brushes without permanently damaging the motor.

The $149 brushless kit might be a better deal though.

      • Excellent deal there! You don't need brushless for the odd DIY job, but it is probably a bit more reliable. And the bigger 4Ah battery is nice.

        • Yes and no. In most of the case, the brushed Ozito hammer drill (Bunnings gave to me as substitution of the brushless one I ordered) will do except drilling into masonry. It indeed finished the job but it would be easier with Rockwell brushless one I got for $49 even the Ozito one was with a 4AH battery and the Rockwell one was with only 1.5Ah battery. Also the sparks from the brush make me nervous.

What are you people on about? I rate this brand highly like Magnetbox, Panaphonic and Sorny.

    • Sorry - must have misheard. Thought you were listing brands with after sales.

  • Cheaper via Amazon with 2 day Prime delivery = $126.64

My local aldi still has a bunch of essentially the same thing in stock (was about 6 left this morning Central West SC in Victoria) for $139 with 2x 1.5ah batteries and charger as well as carrying pouch.
I'm contemplating buying one to have around the house for odd jobs ect the only thing holding me back is deciding on the brand because from what I've been told once you lick into a battery type you really want to stick with it for everything.

    • If you're into licking batteries it probably doesn't matter which brand you use, you'll get pretty much the same kick from each.

This one is 20V while inferior brand such as Makita is 18V. You'll get 11% more kick with this.

        • Just like the American dewalt batteries.

        • 20V and 18V batteries are essentially the same, all 5 x 18650 lithium cells.
          So 20V = 4V(slightly lower than fully charged voltage 4.2v) x 5, and 18V = 3.6V (slightly lower than nominal voltage 3.7v) x 5.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, mine was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but thanks for clarifying anyway.

Works better than gel for that spiky look though ;P

Was meant to be *lock btw for those of us without dislexia lol

    • I abused my aldi brushless drill for renovation, after 3 years, didn't miss a bit. 4 amp aldi battery on special is around $20 but brand name batteries costing more than $120.
PS I like the new $139 pack, the drill is smaller than mine

  • How is $139 a deal if it retails at $129 elsewhere? Also cheaper on Amazon (see other comments).

Also are you seriously replacing a broken Makita with a Topex (whatever that is)?

  • I'm sorry everyone, brain froze and typed the rrp rather than the sales price of 69

    • What sale price?? where?

  • +1

    It's $139

  • Id rather use the broken makita
