    • +1

      Chinese fire water

EDIT: going by price, likely 500ml - https://www.costco.com.au/Wine-Spirits/Spirits/Kweichow-Mout…

Your reaction to any word remotely east asian is hentai?

      • +1

        What’s a manga nah do?

      • I mean, If you've watched enough of it… it's REALLY not that out there, to be a title.

        • Aside from the fact that the title is Chinese and not Japanese…

Then again maybe a lot of hentai is chinese now? I don't know.

          • +3

@raptormesh: Since they share 1 of their written alphabets, a lot is co-produced.

Also, yes, plenty of Hentai have Chinese titles.

@MasterScythe: Showing off knowledge in this area is not the achievement you may think it is.

              • @bajillionaire: At least he didn’t start subcategorising

              • +1

@bajillionaire: Its OK, I didnt think it was.

Plenty of people i know watch pornography.

      • -1

        Yes. Am I wrong though?

        • Wrong about what?

    • +10

Kweichow Moutai is a traditional style of Chinese baijiu liquor from China's Guizhou province. It has the taste and aroma of tropical fruits, pears, smoky nuts and sweet plums.Sorry my bad, wrong glasses -that's the purple Listerine.

      • +14

I lived in China for a few years, drank this (or cheaper) and for me it has almost but not quite the floral notes of pure gasoline.

        • Its also quadrupled in price in 10 years.

    • +1

Looks to be some kind of mouthwash.

  • +7

Looks like a liqueur that rich Chinese people buy as a gift/status symbol.

    • -1

      Basically, yeah.

I don't know any person who would drink baijiu on a normal day.

      • +5

I did for a while. Didn't realise how expensive it was, because just about every dinner I had in China people were bringing this and giving me a second bottle to take home.

Ended up with a couple bottles of what I assumed was a equivalent to $70 alcohol that I liked enough.

Eventually I looked it up. Now I feel bad for adding it to an amaretto sour so many times.

        • +16

Just chuck it in a bit of LA Ice, goes a treat.

      • +1

It is not uncommon in China where people drink cheaper baijiu regularly. This one is very strong and extremely expensive.

  • +2

Will only swap on Australian barley.

  • +7

It has the taste and aroma of tropical fruits, pears, smoky nuts and sweet plums.

    So that was a lie.

    • +4

Haha that's a claim. Tastes like vodka washed in rice

      • For real? Is this suppose to be like dessert wine?

        • +7

not really… tastes like just what pure alcohol with no flavouring would taste like. horrible.

        • +1

Hmm not what I meant. You know when you wash rice and the water gets a little hazy? It seems like a clear liquid with a slight taste of.. grain

    • everybody loves the delicious flavour of sorghum grass.

  • +1

At first, I thought it was a new martial art.

  • -5

My post for the whiskey got canned by mods as joke post.

Wonder if the mods will do the same for this.

  • +9

Packaging reminds me of car oil

  • +6

You'd have to have rocks in your head to buy this horrible shit.

    • +3

Worse thing I’ve tasted before, I’ll rather have Johnnie Red on the rocks then this crap

      • +2

Try feni (cashew alcohol from India), and get back to me!

The most putrid substance known to man! I would drink baijiu any day of the week over feni!

“The aroma of Feni is very strong but not terribly unpleasant. The taste is a combination of fruity, medicinal and death.”
        https://www.askmen.com/top_10/entertainment/most-disgusting-…

And it’s only no.4 on that list! Wow.

        • Oh god haha

        • +1

I have had feni, taste is not the issue but over 60% alcohol is. Even the fumes were so strong that I knew it had way more alcohol than a regular whiskey, every sip hits you like truck. It became much better after adding water.

          • +1

@Wrongguy: I drink cask strength whisky bro, often neat - alcohol % not really an issue for me. :) (And my favourite whisky is Octomore, the most peaty whisky around - so strong flavour also not an issue for me either)

Taste most certainly was the issue for me. We did try both diluting it and mixing it - both made it worse because it just extended the drink without being able to mask the putrid taste!

We used it as a “punishment” for drinking games, and after that night, we all agreed on a peace pact never to inflict feni on each other ever again!! :)

Maybe I just tried a really bad one, and I just need to try a “good” one (although the one I tried had been given as a gift by a consultant, so I would have thought it would be a decent one).

        • Yea but Feni is poor person's drink - country/street liquor…. You probably pay 1/100 the price of this….

          • +2

            @Patman: Sure.

And I would rather pay 1000x the price and drink baijiu than ever drink feni again. :)

    • I don't think it's that bad. Wouldn't pay more than $50 for it personally, but I enjoyed it with food.

That said the price is more reflective of the Chinese mumbo jumbo medicinal beliefs of the drink

    • +1

Bundy rum is insanely popular too and tastes like a wet fart

  • What do you expect? Import tariffs is expensive in Australia for alcohol and this is 53%. It smooth and is very floral in taste.

    • +6

Not smooth. And isn't floral flavour. I have a bottle. Tastes like it's filtered through dirt.

      • +1

How are you drinking it? It drank in shots and accompanied with Chinese good.

        • 20ml shots. After you have 4 or 5 shots you won't taste the flavour and at that point a $20 or $2,000 bottle will taste the same.

      • -1

I doubt you have a bottle of this. You probably have the $70 version most liquor stores have.

This particular product is very good.

    • Man this price is way cheaper than any vendor in China selling the same thing.

  • +1

Tastes like dirt or a "Earthy" flavour. Hard pass.

  • Does it taste better than mobil delvac mx 15w-40? I get 20L for $120

    • +1

I don't know what that is nor what it might possibly taste like, but I'm going to say your mobil thing will taste better.

  • +3

Be carefule, not for western people, totally different thing. Just like lots of Chinese cannot take wishkey.

    • +2

This is 53% however you try justify it, it still tastes like jet fuel.

      • It tastes way better than whiskey IMO..

  • -5

wow pretty sure this is like 40AUD in China, bought some at a Walmart in Beijing in 2019. Higher shelf Wuliangye was like 200AUD and actually tastes good (300 AUD at Dan's).

    • +4

No that's Muotai prince. Much cheaper.

    • +1

Not really. More than $500 in China. Pretty hard to get genuine ones tho.

  • You can imagine it like a graphic card, the MSRP(AUD312) is just a joke. The actual price for this in China is about 150% of the MSRP.

  • More than the average monthly income for a Chinese worker. Presume it is the owners of the sweatshops that drink this stuff?

    • +2

The workers. Sucker Australians is what they say.

    • +3

Pretty common in business dinners and formal events like weddings. Also a fairly common gift

  • +1

I don't think ppl that enjoying ozgbargain will ever enjoy things like this. Lol. It is not bargain at all and never will be. It is all about showing how important the person is to you, and you are willing to spend that much money just to make him to feel that you are taking him seriously. It is pretty good liquor and at least more than 1 billion ppl consider it is good. (Chinese national liquor)

  • Why is this liquor so expensive? is it any good?

    • +2

good when you gift it to your Chinese neighbour next door, not so good (too expensive) when you drink it yourself. Just get Erguotou from your local Asia market you probably will like that baijiu better and it's like $13.

      • Lol erguotou makes my day. 二锅头 indeed they have even higher vol% than this as up to 72% alcohol.

  • +4

1 more cent and I’d be blazin’ it

  • +1

Might get 4 cartons for camping

    • +2

Yes! This is great around the campfire

      • +3

Yes, its great for starting fires at 53% Alcohol

  • Looks like the most expensive Made in China product I have ever seen! Surely they can do a knock-off of this product for $20 bucks

  • +1

Got a bottle of this. Still unopened - as new. I'll sell it to anyone willing to pay $350 for it. I just don't want to drink it as I know I'll regret it. PM me.

    • Sell it to Langton's

  • I’m sure the price isn’t related to inflation. Just some humans being greedy and nonsense.

You never know how ignorant people can be when you see all the silly comments.

    • Agree. when we comment it as gasoline or fire water here, I do know some people overthere just take the same thing to the Scotch whiskey, 'toilet water'
