Edit - Didn't realise ebay plus is required :(

    • +2

Just pay for one month. Like $5

New email address = new trial.

      • They give you a new trial after a bit too.

  • Any bose seconds need the comfort

Pretty unlikely from the Sony ebay store

      • not with that attitude

  • +1

    Got one thanks

  • +1

nice price right before xmax, hope they deliver before that.

  • +11

Be aware these are not box damaged but seconds. If somehow you thought they were the same thing, they are not.

    • Can you elaborate on the difference?

      • +4

Generally, an item listed as a factory second will have failed quality inspection for cosmetic, rather than functional, reasons. … Such items are often heavily discounted, but may not have as all-encompassing a warranty or guarantee as a full-quality item (for example, the product may be non-returnable).

        Factory second - Wikipedia

        • They have a 1 year warranty

      • -2

I imagine box damaged 2nds is headphones returned due to a damaged box and the headphones have never actually been used. Whereas these are likely used headphones, returned under warranty, refurbished by Sony and re sold.

Please correct me if this is off the mark

      • +1

Sort of pot luck. From previous comments about Sony seconds, some people said they look new or just mild scratch, but ~1 in 10 people complained either they don't look right, sound right, or smell right ;-)

        • +2

          smell right ……ewwww yuck!

        • +27

          Yeah, mine didn’t taste right.

        • -1

Yuck buy a $240 headphone realising it smells and unable to return it? Or the sound? I hope it's not that bad!

So what is the smell comparable to? Someone's toes? Socks? Lol

            @PeeDee:

Yuck buy a $240 headphone realising it smells and unable to return it

Actually free postage returns at Sony eBay store.
Personally I have bought Sony seconds several times and have no complain about the condition, except the one time they sent me the wrong (cheaper) item. Able to return but that took time for them to respond/process…

            • +1

@Buy2Much: Their TsnCs wording can be interpreted in many ways though so I hope it is the same for seconds..i.e. in the event we find a reasonable fault we can return. I can see that they offer a 1-year warranty as well and probably the additional year warranty from Australian Consumer Law.

              • +5

@PeeDee: I have purchased Sony seconds xm4 for $224 previously, I ended up getting a dud where there was a very slight beeping noise with ANC on and bluetooth connected (normal ppl probs wouldn't care) but also the dreaded wind noise that haunts some xm3/4s.

I told them about it and they provided the option for a return or exchange and provided the label. It wasn't the fastest process but it was fine.

In terms of headphone condition, they were basically like brand new not a single bit of dirt, scratch or anything. It seems like a fair few people get an excellent side of the deal where they appear brand new and fully functioning, some others get a dud, some get a few duds in a row and then make it their life mission to stop anyone from getting seconds (fair enough). It's a gamble but I'd say if you want them then it's a worthy gamble and it's basically risk free.

    • +2

Mine were perfect only thing they didn’t have was the shrink wrap on the box other then that I can’t see a mark on them .

    • +1

Sony is liberal with their definition of seconds which vary between damaged boxes to refurbished units. In fact refurbished units have better QA than originals as the components are holistically tested as opposed to random samples on a production line!

    smelly seconds

    • +7

I reckon your finger smells worse.

    • So what is the smell comparable to you reckon? Someone's toes? Socks? Lol

    • Restricted by number of words in the title, can't even fit another letter, or put dashes in the model names…

Read the description you lazy bum.

Bought a refurbished WF-XM3 from this store, battery lasts for about 40 minutes on a full charge.

    • +1

Did you do a warranty claim?

    • +1

They have a warranty you should use it .
My xm4 last forever on a charge

    • +2

Then return them for a replacement or refund?

    • Just wanted to share my experience, I wasn’t aware that refurbished device were covered by warranty. I still believe that they should not sell something which is not fit for use.

      • +2

It’s stated clearly in each of their refurb item ad:

What warranty is provided on purchases?
All items available to purchase on the Official Sony eBay Store are covered by a full 12 month Sony manufacturer warranty from Sony. Sony provides invoices on all purchases via an email with a PDF.

    • @karteej sounds like you have LDAC turned on. Turn that off and you'll be getting alll day battery life. You will need to do it through the Sony app.

  • +4

Decent price on the WH-1000XM4. Finally pulled the trigger on one!

    • +1

Congrats. I may finally buy an mx3 now.

  • -3

It's not really all that suitable as a Christmas present because it's a second and people may not appreciate you spending less on them.

    • +5

Or they could appreciate the $200 gift?

Something about horses and thier mouths…

  • Will xm4 work with Quest 2 VR

    • for normal movie…may be yes but may not work very well on fps games. You can anyway use it through Aux!

  • -2

Anyone who bought smelly seconds. What is the smell comparable to? Someone's toes? Socks? Lol

    • +2

Ok, the smell was a running joke from previous Sony earphones/headphones posts, some people said their smell was sanitiser, others said this or this.

  • +2

Is it worth the extra for the WH-1000XM4 over the WH-1000XM3?

    • +1

      Yes

    • Do the research different needs are better

  • +1

Might be worth trying out SocialGood for 50% back in SG Coin

  • Its ebay plus item does it mean if the item in bad condition like lot of scratches you can return it for refund within 30 days?

    • +1

I have not tried for unsatisfied reason (only when I received the wrong item), but their return policy looks reasonable enough:

30 days after the buyer receives it
You must return items in their original packaging and in the same condition as when you received them.

  • I recently bought a brand me one XM4, I am disappointed that my ears touch the back of the cups. Too much clamping force, these are very uncomfortable headphones compared to Bose. Thinking to try QC 45. Just giving my feedback, prepare to be shocked.

    • Are you thinking of refunding it or selling?

      • Selling of course. Mine is brand new, not seconds. I don't think I can return it.

If you have ever used Bose, you'd be disappointed by the comfort level. Audio, I think it's not a fuller open spacious sound like you'd expect from an open back of this price range.

Overall, good presentation. I am enjoying some jazz and classical. Works for me.

BTW, they did get some what useable after some time. Maybe the clamp is softer now. There's a work around on YouTube, you can raise the ear pads.

        • The condition isn't the same anymore to refund hey? I don't know how I can argue for a refund on seconds if it is the case..

    • Mine are extremely comfortable

  • Silver or black?

    • Black

    • a question like chicken or beef in the old days when people used to fly…….every one has an opinion

  • +1

    Silver XM4 Headphones OOS!

    • +1

The Silver are pretty ugly. I bought the Silver then instantly regretted it and swapped for the Black.

  • +3

How is this a deal? XM3 were $200 on Amazon brand new few weeks ago…

    • Yep I got a set but I was lucky. They sold out basically in the first hour of the sale during their blitz hour or whatever the hell it's called. Anyway I'm loving them… Thanks Amazon!

  • Very cheap, I am tempted. I have wired Bose, but now when I'm flying I feel old when everyone has Wireless!

  • +1

    XM4's OOS. Just missed out.

  • Got these mx4 in the last sale. Awful microphone.

    • Oh wait, isn't microphone bad in Bose qc35 but good in Sony or is it the other way around?

      • +1

Defs other way around. Had the XM3s and QC35 and the qc35s won by a mile

  • Still have the qc35 (first version) from years ago still going great, is the upgrade to XM4 worth it?

  • XM3 was $199 new from Amazon flash sale not too long ago. Would not pay the same amount for seconds

  • Silver WH-1000XM4 is back in stock. PLUSDEC5 for 5% off.

  • +1

Does anyone know which carrier is Sony using?
Mine says shipped. They label the carrier as DHL but the tracking isn't working.

    • Their DHL tracking is useless. Either very slow to update or invalid. However within 1-2 days, they arrive.

  • +2

Ordered a WH-1000XM4 on 15th. Got delivered today by DHL

    • +1

Got mine today as well. Ordered it on the 14th.

      • & with no funky smell. Mine is brand new condition

        • You won't know until you keep testing out on different specs to see if it lines up

    • Mine is not even posted yet. Emailed the seller two days ago, but no response from them. :(

      • i got mine today ordered on 16th, and ebay still says its not posted lol, so dont rely on that.

        • +1

First time dealing with Sony Second. Just got mine today. Ordered on 14th, and the status is not even posted. Although delivery is disappointing, the headphones I received are basically brand new.

  • Received mine. It definitely looks, feels, smells and sounds brand new with no issues. My only suspicion thus far is the ANC is not as good as I remember but that could just be paranoia, will need to test.

    • How did yours go with anc?

My ANC ok. I think they need to leave ANC partially off for safety reasons when outside by default?

      • Yeah, I think it's pretty good. Haven't gotten around to checking it with my friends due to the Rona but have been using them everyday.

        • Does ear pads have a lot of creases? my one does and I'm just wondering if that is normal

          • @PeeDee: Upload a photo. I don't have any more than usual.

  • Hey guys, how do I lodge an exchange on eBay? There's something wrong with my mx4. There is no option but return and when I lodge a return it says you will receive your refund?!?! What!! I don't want refund!!
