Imou Ranger SE Wi-Fi 4MP 2K Pan/Tilt Camera with Motion Tracking US$29.99 (~A$42.18) Delivered @ Dahua Official Store AliExpress

12PRMS3

On sale is this new release indoor wifi camera that offers a few improvements over the previous models. This includes a 4MP sensor, 2560x1440 resolution and wider coverage with pan/tilt. Unfortunately there's only an EU plug included but it uses a micro USB port for power so any USB charger would do.

Other features include a motion sensor that can detect/track people and send alerts, two-way audio, sound detection, night vision with IR and colour, microSD slot for local storage, 4x digital zoom, RTSP/ONVIF support and 2.4GHz Wifi connectivity.

There's an Imou app for management of the camera and cloud storage. Alternatively you can use an Imou/Dahua NVR, SmartPSS software or Blue Iris.

  • How's this as a baby camera?

    • Should handle it fine no problem. You can use the app to pan/tilt, has night vision and a mic for sound so it would tick all the boxes. Just stick a MicroSD card in and you're good to go. The motion tracking can be configured to detect in certain "areas" and the sensitivity can be adjusted.

      • Is that you Agro?

I use an Imou bullet POE camera as a baby camera and its way better than the previous cheapie camera I bought. Very quick to bring up a picture.

I use the tinyipcam app to look at the footage as I block the camera from outside internet access. The Imou app that it comes with requires outside internet access which is nuts.

I also have setup an NVR using Shinobi (google it) on an old desktop PC.

Overall, great bit of kit and I will buy this one as the next baby camera.

  • Are you affiliated? Or have you bought one? Could be good value but I have found the cheaper cameras have super expensive cloud storage fees.

    • +3

Certainly not affiliated - I just put effort into my posts. I have both the 2MP and 4MP Ranger 2 so I can certainly talk about them. I don't use the Cloud storage myself as it goes to my Dahua NVR.

There's a few places to get cloud storage besides within the app. This listing for example has a 12 month plan that retains 7 days of footage for US$17.59 / ~AU$24.74, while in the app that would set you back US$29.99 / ~A$42.18.

Like all things cloud it's definitely where they get you.

      • Awesome. I just had a look at AliExpress, can get a years worth of 30 day storage for approx 60au.

How’s the picture quality between the 2 and 4mp? Do they do an outdoor version too?

I’m diving into Ali as we speak, and as we all know it’s quite the rabbits warren lol

        • There's outdoor cameras too. 4MP is certainly a step up from 2MP. I'd recommend checking YouTube for reviews of other Imou cameras to see them in action.

  • At a first sight, I was wondering, what is a lmao camera😅

  • Does anyone know if the night vision IR LEDs can be turned off (for using behind glass)? That's the only downfall of my Tapo C200's.

    • Yes.

  • Is this (or other cheapies) able to have alternate firmware loaded on to close all those little security gaps that exist at this price point? i.e. does this one "phone home" instead of just streaming to my local network?

    • Block any WAN-bound connections with your firewall.

  • +2

OP, you've said that this camera has 4x optical zoom, when it only has 4x digital zoom. You're not going to get optical zoom at this price point and there's a massive difference between digital and optical zoom.

    • +1

      Ok fixed.

  • Is this deal expired? I can’t seem to add the $10 coupon

Edit: I couldn’t add the $10 but it did offer me a bundle price with camera and T-shirt for
$42 then with the discount code it came down to $37

  • does imou have any cheap 4k cameras?

    • Unfortunately not. They're only just starting to offer 4MP 2K cameras.
