Tacky goods at 5% off exorbitant retail price, approx 500% of actual value.

I don't think it's about the 5% off. I was suprised to see these overnight queues in Sydney, it's quite common and when I asked about it here, was told: Chinese-made designer goods are shipped to Australia where "Daigous" line up overnight to buy them up then ship back to China to sell to wealthy people there for multiple times markup.

There's a whole industry that does this (e.g. the powdered milk thing) and it's so profitable that it's how many of the Asian youth in the city make their money and enjoy living in the CBD. There's also entire shops in the city that pretend to sell products but are actually just a front to package and ship these items.

Kiwibuy World Square is exactly such a shop. Boxes and boxes of powdered milk and goods to be shipped to China whenever you pass by.

      That shoe is hideous.

I've never understood high fashion. The documentary Zoolander explains a bit of it though.

      • I look at the people on the "cat walk" and often wonder who wears these $2000 shoes or hats…

      • Lol

That wording allows them to donate 1% of proceeds and keep the rest for themselves.

What percentage of the sales go to charity? 0.5%?

So it's not the $1750 headphones that are worth 1/10th of that?

    • Imagine stepping on some dog poop while wearing one of those!

I don't know but I'm assuming it'll be the release of Virgil Abloh's final collection. He passed away last month so likely these people expect it to have decent potential for resale value.

dang it, i hope they still have some stuff left over. i'm not going to go to crazy, but was looking for a few of the cheaper items.

looking for a new bag now that we are able to travel again. i was interested in LVXNBA KEEPALL BANDOULIÈRE 55 and SLENDER WALLET.

i wanted to get some stuff for my kids too, hoping to get the TWIST MM, DOUDOU VIVIENNE XL, and ALMA BB.

Because they’re hideous. Nobody cares how much money you have.

        • Haha I can buy those hideous things, I actively choose not to, not only are they ugly, they are terrible value for money. I deal with plenty of people who have a tonne of money, the only people that buy this tacky crap, are the ones who want to look like they have more money than they do. The ones with "f you" money, look like anyone else you see in the street.

the government is taking a big chunk of my money to pay people like you

          Lol, not likely.

The most insecure are those that feel they have to show off the most.

I.e. those that aren't wealthy will flaunt wealth at every chance they get

But Americans love bold and brash people - businessmen over quieter, more modest people who, some would say are more educated.

I find it a shame that LV has become a brand it is today. LV used to be worn by more classy, much older generations a few decades ago. LV lost exclusivity for sure.

  • Has LV become an Apple outlet?

    • Two words, Bernard Arnault.

His followers have more money and are more devoted to the brand.
