Level V EB World Member Required

    So targeted then.

    • +5

      Here's better title -

"[Level V EB Members] Free T-Shirt @ EB Games (In-Store)"

  • +55

Spend thousands of dollars to become a level 5 member and get a single t-shirt as a gift.

    • +6

      It's the thought that counts.

      • how much to buy the shirt?

        • Their most expensive shirt is $49

      • And the thought they had was 'Suckers!'

    • -6

This is such a stupid argument. I sure hope you didn’t spend thousands to “become a level 5 member”

      • +14

i spent it elsewhere on a less dodgy ripoff company

        • Yup, that’s perfectly fine, I do also. My point was nobody spend a sh1tload just to get lv5

          • @britta: But it's also the only way to become a level 5 member. It's a criticism of the reward you get for being a very loyal customer.

            • +2

@DASHCAM NOW DUDE: At least they are give you something. Don’t get me wrong, EB price gouge like crazy but no other business offered loyalty programs do they?

What do you get for spending the same at JB, bigw, Amazon or Harvey Norman’s?

Ps please don’t give Gerry money ;)

              • +2

@britta: I buy console games 80% from Eb Games full price, get carrots and flybuys points, then claim price difference in 2 years as they will have a 95% chance of still selling the game in 2 years time.

                • @MeesusEff: If you don't mind me asking, which card do you use for this?

                  • @Lions44: Coles mastercard, or 28d depending what game I think I can get the most back on. I have the shoppers protection on those, not offered anymore to new applicants though.

              • @britta: Doesn't big w have rewards points?

                • @Soluble: Big woolworths does yes… Same card as woollies

            • +1

@DASHCAM NOW DUDE: Does anyone know what the points requirements to hit level 5 last year? With two major console launches and factoring in pre sales get double points, anyone who preordered both a PS5 and Series X would have got about 3000 points from those alone. There was also double points towards trade ins, so another 500ish+ points per trade in if you did that (and the trade in offers were quite decent for launch). Last year was one where you could probably rack up a lot of points without necessarily buying a stack of games via EB.

No idea though what the low bar was to qualify for level 5. Obviously buying both consoles is still spending a lot of money, but the consoles themselves were basically the same price everywhere.

      • +4

A lot of people will mass buy games and wait for a double carrots day to trade them back in to boost their carrot ranking to get a chance of hitting level V.
It's a fairly exclusive program limited to the top 10,000 carrot earners Australia-wide so you have to spend smart to attain it.

        • Oh wow will have to do that next time!

        • Another way to get lots of carrots is to trade in an old console when buying a new console. You get 2X carrots for trading in the old console and you also get carrots for the new console. The launch day pre-order Series X or PS5 deal + trade in your old console(s), for either one, you easily get 1400 points (and that's without trading in any extra game or controller). Those special deals are really good at collecting carrots. Every time I've done one of those, I pretty much also got a level upgrade.

Series X + PS5 + trade in XB1X and PS4 Pro + games + controller last year. Paid only $150 to get both new consoles (trading in old consoles, games and controllers). I went from Level 3 to Level 5. I'm pretty sure I will lose Level 5 status next year.

It's a shame EB stop giving out free Xmas bonus carrots (no need to buy anything, they just give you 200 carrots.

          • @netsurfer: Dumb question, why did you also trade in games?

            • +2

              @tajid: Reasons are:

              • It's part of the deal, I think you get 50% bonus trade in credits for games and accessories (+ EB world level bonus). Small number of lucky people were able to stack birthday trade in bonus (+50%) on top.
              • Console trade in alone is not enough to cover the remaining cost of the new consoles.
              • Ability to sell games which were kept far too long (i.e. the ones in PS Plus collection). Something is better than nothing.

EB sometimes have really cool deals. With the level up welcome credits, you could end up trading in a game and get more than what you originally paid for. $150 to get PS5 + Series X, simply hand in your old consoles, accessories and games you don't want, was a compelling and convenient deal. I know I probably can get more selling them myself, but the time and effort is not worth it.

    • +1

There are lots of other benefits

    • -1

I spent about $500 and got level 5.

      • +2

I bought PS5 twice from them, and the first one was also by trading $500 worth of games and it wasn't even enough, so I don't really believe this.

    • +1

That's a bit unfair. I get a few worthy benefits as a level 5. I price match all my games at EB so as far as I am concerned it has cost me nothing additional to be Level 5, and I get a free t-shirt, $20 birthday voucher each year, bonus trade credit, longer return windows (this has saved me thousands on bad games over the years, tbh).

  • +8

This is like the complete opposite of what Oz bargain is about.

  • +1

Are there any lvl 5 ozb users?

    • Guilty

    • +1

I'm in the club, doesn't take much. Just a few handy purchases here and there ;)

      • +1

Yeah, mine was the console releases this year

      • Just a few thousand…..

        • +1

Nobody should spend money at EB thinking they'll get into level 5. It's about spending whatever you want to spend and if you get in then you get the bonus perks. You don't even get exclusive access to console releases. So many people still miss out to scalpers.

    • Last year was quite different. If you opted to pre-order both Series X and PS5 (+ trade in your old consoles and games), you would easily be in the top 10,000 earners in last year's ladder.

  • just checked and I am at level 1… so yeah spend 1000 to get free tee. NO DEAL

    • +6

More than that I'm afraid mate.

"To qualify for Level V, you need to be one of the top 9,999 carrot earners by 31 August 2022."

    • +3

I think you would need to spend 10,000. Level V is their top 10,000 customers Australia-wide, $1000 is just a drop in the ocean.

      • It's not 10,000 it's whatever you accumulate in a year to put yourself in as the top 10,000 spenders in the country. Not impossible but takes atleast $2k-$3k spending and little bit more depending on how your competition spends. Some people are addicted to pops and othe random zing stuff which they drop thousands on so not hard for them, especially if they're collectors.

      • I can tell you 5,500 carrots earned would have had you at 9,911 last year.

So far this year is averaging $100 a week.

        • I don't know how much I spent but I bought a couple of consoles a few games and that was suffice to get me into level 5 but like I said it depends on the competition. Not everyone spends that much money each year. Perhaps I'm fortunate?

          • @thousandsuns: Last year was easy due to PS5 and Series X pre-order deals. Simply trade in PS4 Pro and One X to purchase both new consoles. If you traded in games and extra controllers, you could end up paying less than $200 out of pocket. You ended up with minimum 3000 carrots.

This year will be tougher though coz. there is no more special deals like those launch day specials.

However, if he is on Level 1, basically with the two requirements needed to reach level 5, he simply needs to reach level 4 by the next August deadline. If he can achieve that (collect 9500 carrots in 1 year), pretty sure he would reach L5. That's asking too much I reckon.

            • @netsurfer: It is definitely too much. Unless you're a regular spender you won't get there and when you do you get little perks here and there which is better than nothing at the end of the day but you're definitely better off buying cheaper else where when possible since EB is pricey in cases where they don't price match.

              • @thousandsuns: Yeah, there is no point chasing level 5. We've got it because the EB launch day deals were great. I was too lazy to sell my XBox One X and PS4 Pro on Facebook or FeeBay. $150 to upgrade both to Series X and PS5 was a good deal.

Haven't done much with my L5 membership so far. The L5 welcome gift (a small flag) went straight to the bin.

                • @netsurfer: I don't think anybody buys stuff from EB to chase level V lol…that's just dumb thinking.

  • -1

    Someone spent/traded 67,690 worth of carrots…

    Nice!

    • Always wondered if that was some rogue employee cashing in carrots for people who didn’t want to use their card or something. Short of ordering a stack of expensive statues I’m not sure how you’d get to that many.

If you take a game to be on average $100 at EB new and the person preordered and gets double carrots, that’s still 335 purchases without trade ins if going with games alone. If trading in it’s probably 200 or so.

Other than buying expensive statues, any thoughts as to how someone would legitimately get that many carrots in a year? Possibly an employee of a company that purchased games on behalf of their business in bulk (for entertainment devices at hospitals or other venues and the like).

      • That's overall since membership started, so if you average 20 games per year and trade ins, then it's a collection of 10 odd years of carrots?

      • +1

Could be multiple people sharing the same card

    • i'm a few levels below them (not giving away which one).

to crack the top 100 :

Have no affiliation with the company, to my knowledge most everyone above me either works for the company and buys a ton there / takes advantage of employee abilities or are super whales - they preorder everything, buy things at full price, buy every console release that comes out.

I'm the highest level at my store but before me the highest level guy there was a multimillionaire who would just buy stuff for the sake of buying it, it's entirely possible he's mr 67,690 at current, all I know is he no longer shops at my store.

I made it by (and got disqualified several times) :

-I only trade when it benefits me, I take advantage of trade in offers for bonuses, I buy up a lot of games with my mates from auction lots and bulk lots to collect (not a reseller), we frequently take advantage of the trade in deals and never trade in at losses..

-I think I hold the current trade in record for trading in over 5k of games in one go, all the staff took photos with the "towers" of games.

-Take advantage of the sales - EB games have freaking awesome sales and the ozbargain community normally get the info leaked, so you normally have an idea before most others do on here and can collect to your hearts desire, this frequently gives you bonuses.

-Surveys….. if you collect a lot and at multiple stores due to rare games ending up on sale in obscure places, travel there and grab them! a lot of the time as a new experience to the store or if you have a new staffer or quaterly kpi checks, they will give you a bunch of surveys and the score adds up quick.

-Pre-order when necissary, I do NOT advocate pre-ordering for the hell of it, only when its items that are gonna get scalped or sellout.

Doing the above and watching prices and budgeting, its the easiest way to rank up. I've also been banned from level 5 qualification many times by "shadow bans" as there are things you can do that trip the system into doing so, only found out earlier this year, after having a chat to customer service and showing them I wasn't a reseller (apparantly I have australia's largest ps4 collection that they've seen according to them, who knows) and showing my collection they removed the ban.

      Things to never do :

-NEVER get the scratch guarantee, it's a wrought.

-NEVER get extended warranties, it's a wrought.

-NEVER get eb repairs, they are incompitent at it, i've repaired their work before it's not great.

-NEVER have a go at the staff or be mean to them, i've seen this a lot, just don't be that guy, yes some of the staff can be jerks but it's a very small minority and the great people that work there have to suffer them as well, they don't need you adding to it.

      • +1

Nice finding mate! I definitely know atleast one staff member at my local who is a Level 5, so your theory works.

Buying and trading is definitely a carrot maker with EB. At level 5, trading is so much better too.

I don't see a point at being a jerk to someone unless they repeatedly ignore what I say and just stick their gun (usually when deals are concerned).

I've even gotten a $9 game pass as a $10 trade deal because that's how the staff try to help.

Definitely not worth getting extended anything through EB. JB wins for me due to the exchange policy.

  • +6

A true ozbargainer uses 1 account with multiple mates.

    • +13

Share one shirt between the lot of you?

      • -2

        And undies 🤪

    • +1

that all wear the same size tshirt

    • You get redflagged and banned for that, it's how they shadowbanned a lot of people on the list this year.

  • OT V: New Era Dianetics for OTs

  • +5

I just got level 4 and was stoked to find my "free gift" was a buy one get one free t-shirt offer… 🙄
    Worst. Reward. Ever.

    • I got the same offer for level 3 last month and never used it.

  • +3

I want that Pikachu Christmas shirt and if I don't get it for free I might just buy it for the carrots to annoy people in this comments section

  • Title should definitely be updated to state that the offer is "targeted" or people will find this to be click bait. Chances are only few people from here are actually level 5. Please update title so you don't give people false hope, especially with this time of the year.

    • Sorry if this is outlined somewhere, I just wasn't able to find it. To be classified as targeted, how many people does a promotion have to be limited to?

      • +1

I'm not sure about limit but not everyone is an EB member and not everyone is level 5. Only level 5 people got the offer that's how you know it's targeted.

  • The $10 Birthday Coupon for level 4+ members is pretty great.

Just got Cyberpunk 2077 for $18. They even threw in some pre-order bonuses they still had from launch.

    • If they send it to you. Never got email and when I asked their support they said too bad…

      • You possibly have promotions turned off in your communications preferences.

      • Did you get the level up once off welcome credit voucher? That one, you actually need to request it manually. The reason is that they don't know when you intend to use it (it expires in 1 month). That one is generally the same as the birthday voucher, except you don't have to wait for the voucher.

I went from Level 3 to Level 5 in 1 year so I missed out on 1 birthday voucher (you cannot have 2 birthdays in a year).

  • Congrats on earning 67,690 carrots dude.

  • Alright who on this thread has the most carrots?

    • I have close to 40k carrots.

    • I have a big bag of juicing carrots in the fridge, maybe 60 of em.

      • I don't think I've ever seen a bag of carrots that big. 😅

  • At level 4 can I get 80% of a shirt?

  • Last thing I bought from EB was a $2 pre-owned Xbox Controller battery about a year back.

I don't think I'm Level V enough for the shirt but that's fine with meee

  • +1

    – “Some say he never blinks, and that he roams around the woods at night foraging for wolves. All we know is he’s called the level V

  • Huge is all you have? I'm much too small for that

    achew
    'scuse me

  • GME going to the moon thanks to cool promos like this.

    • +1

Such a shame they don't sell GME bags in Aus to hold dem shares

  • I am only a level 3 …… you would have to spend alot of money at eb games to get a level 5 just for a free t-shirt lol

    • A console trade for a PS5 got me level 5 pretty sure lol.

  • just spending cash isnt enough, my mate was top 2000 (current 841/9,999) for a couple years in a row (to qualify for level V, you need to be in the 9,999 carrot earners)
even after sending them a screen shot at the time which showed a rank of 1780 (7,475 Carrots) , he was told he was not successful in reaching Level V
think he had to post to the Twitter page to get some traction and only this year was given membership.

he didnt just buy games and consoles, he would get a lot of collectables through zing (think transformers Unicron and such)

fyi rank 1 was 56,624 Carrots
