  • Very good bin. I love it!

    • How do you stop the full bags ripping when you take them out and something catches on the rim?

      • +1

I haven’t had that problem. It has a plastic casing that goes on the rim and the lid sits on this plastic casing. I simply remove the lid, then remove the plastic casing and pull the bag out.

I have been using heavy duty bags from Coles so haven’t had that issue.

      • +1

put 2 layers of plastic bags ( one as a base strong plastic )?

  • +3

I get a server error and searchiing brings no results

  • +2

Cant see it on woolworths but same price here https://www.mydeal.com.au/68l-motion-sensor-bin-black-308531

  • +4

Same price at catch and amazon

  • +2

What's wrong with using a foot pedal?

    • +4

Nothing wrong. Just as technology is creeping into every little thing, the bins seem to be the new frontier. Won't be long before there are bins operated using Google/Alexa.

Imagine the scenario, standing in front of the bin and yelling at Alexa… "Hey Alexa, open the bin".

      • +5

ROFL, just bec u can make something smart doesn't really mean it becomes convenient :p

        • +1

There is always a market for everything. This one is probably for disabled people? Or people with lots of disposable income, or tech savvy people.

          • +2

@John Doh: i prefer my bins w AI.. knowing when i'm throwing trash vs just walking past

      • +4

Alexa - "RSmith - you know the cardboard part of this rubbish should be put in the recycling"

    • That's just so primitive

    • +1

We have a foot sensor bin - similar to this one, but with a sensor at the base of the bin, so if your hands are full you don't need to wave rubbish around to open the bin! It's the best of both worlds :P! Unfortunately we can't seem to find any replacement ones as it's getting old, but for now, it's good

    • +3

WTF! I am not buying this bin until it has WiFi, and can send me a push notification when it is full. :-P

  • +5

Great. New place to put my childhood traumas.

    • Great. New place to put my manager

  • noice can use my free $50 that healthylife gave me

  • +7

I'll give this product 12 months before the mechanism fails and it gets tossed out at junk week.

    • Cost you have to pay for laziness.

    • +2

Had mine for 18 months now ..still going strong. Use it often and haven't even replaced the batteries yet

    • +3

Not sure what's with the pessimism, I've had mine for over a year and zero issues. It's a great product.

      • I think the thought is, it's needlessly complex, so bound to fail earlier than a simpler design that achieves the same thing.

A foot pedal bin achieves exactly the same result, "hands free bin opening", it doesn't require any electronics or replaceable batteries to operate and it's about 1/2 of the price to buy.

        • +1

This is not as noisy as a foot pedal bin, and can't be toppled by a heavy duty when empty

        • +1

It's not half the price. Where is it half the price for equivalent size? I've looked everywhere

        • Same could be said about something like automatic window shutters though… "Needlessly complex, so bound to fail" in comparison to manual shutters. But plenty of people have automatic shutters because it's convenient.

    • I've been using the ALDI sensor bin for more than 4 years now and it was actually much more useful than I initially imagined.

  • +7

All sensor bins I've used don't work after 12-24 months of use.

    • +1

Second this. They are all junk. Mechanism stops working, Lid only half opens. Drains battery like a mofo. I'm going back to a foot pedal one now.

      • +2

        Exactly.

Even the basic foot pedal mechanism ones seem to get a max of 1-2 years before they are cactus.

I have a large open bin that's in a cupboard and it's never failed

    • +1

I have had this particular bin for 18 months and it's still all good. Eneloops have lasted nearly a year without recharge.

Anyway I guess I won't be surprised if it fails now.

    • +2

I've had sensor bins still going strong after 4 years.

They do need to be cleaned, WD40/lubed up occasionally.

      • Lucky you or either you dont use it as your main bin.

        • +2

Main bin and no luck, just proper maintenance and cleaning.

          • @zhenjie: What is there to lube? Cheap electronics like these always use sealed bearings or plastic rollers.

  • I bought one of these and it just beeps every time I swear

    • +2

      Then don't swear!

      • +2

        But it's a censor bin

  • +1

    Too many rich people

    • Large bins are pretty expensive anyway, I think this is an excellent deal and I'm far from rich

  • +1

$5 cheaper on ebay with ebay plus

  • +1

this reminds me, I wonder if you can get "motion" sensitive bidet systems ?

    • +1

The thing I hate about these, and lots of similar stackable bins, is that they're much bigger at the top than the bottom. It's such a huge waste of space in shelving and cupboards. I reckon you lose up to 1/4 of the volume in wasted space between the bins.

  • +2

Tempted to buy it because it seems like a good price for such a large (68L) bin

Seems like non smart/non motion sensor bins of this size are about this price anyway.

And you can always use this as a dumb bin by leaving out the batteries.

How quick is the response to open the bin? I hope it's practical!

    • How exactly will you open the bin when you take out the batteries? You may as well have to take off the lid.

      • It says manual operation enabled in the advertisement

        • +2

Yes, two buttons, electrically operating the lid.

  • I guess you could take it in to a store for a refund if the unit fails

Also wonder if the old grocery plastic bags would fit as liners

  • Tough gig using your foot on a pedal to open

  • Too many things can go wrong if it malfunctions, not worth risking your life over. It's a no from me

    • not worth risking your life over

LOL! It is powered by AA batteries, like lots of other gadgets found at numerous households.

  • Good deal, but Its too tall to fit under my kitchen sink. Are people keeping this bin in the open, kitchen ? I prefer to keep the bin out of sight in the cabinet under the sink.

    • +3

Kinda defeats the purpose of a hands-free sensor bin, don't it?
