Hey Ozbargainers, I was looking to replace some of my worn out house drills, and I came across this deal on Amazon.

The kit comes with
1 x GSB18V-490 18V EC Brushless Hammer Drill/Driver
1 x GDX18V-1800 18V EC Brushless Freak Impact Driver/Wrench
2 x 18V Lithium-Ion 2.0 Ah SlimPack Batteries
1 x Charger
+ some other minor stuffs.

Not sure if it is cheap or not, but looking up google, the GDX18V-1800 Skin is like $200 by itself (what?).

US stock so need to consider the charger voltage and no local warranty ( generally 6 years)

2Ah batteries? Why even bother. I have an 8ah on mine and still complain about run time.

In fact it came with this exact kit from Bunnings plus the 8a fast charger and free Bosch radio (by redemption) for $299. That was a bargain.

    • Can you refer me to that kit? I want a hammer drill and an impact wrench.

    • Because an 8ah battery makes the tool much much heavier. Carry it around for 10 hours and you'll notice the difference. Smaller batteries certainly have their place but I think 4ah is the sweet spot for balance if you're not hanging on to the thing constantly, otherwise multiple smaller batteries are good and they charge fast enough

      • I just need it to fix stuff around the home. 2ah is sufficient. Looking for something light weight as well.

It's still a hard sell for me, not sure what the local equivalent models are but I'd say it's the same as this kit but you get 4ah batteries, local warranty and a charger that works. With the US one, you'd probably have to factor in getting a local charger so wouldn't be worth the potential saving if it costs you the 6 year warranty and you get smaller batteries

          • @whitelie: Local one is 50 and 200 i think. Convert the in-lbs (Imperial) to Nm (metric)

            • @Xantar: I'd get the TT one then. Not really a "deal" as similar kits have been much cheaper at Bunnings when they were running stock out but for the $135 difference, it's worth it for the charger, larger batteries and warranty

  • Never buy electric items from USA (110V, plug, warranty), there are often same combo locally for $299, Dewalt, Makita, AEG, etc so you just have to look around (google).

    • Pretty sure this isn't as important now days as chargers are rated 110V to 240V anyway. Can you point me to some discounted 18V hammer drill and impact wrench? All rounder would be good as Im no longer in construction. Just DIY at home :)

      • Any will work for home use, only thing to think about really besides price is battery compatibility if you already have some other power tools or might get some in the future

Have some Bosch. Hence going with bosch. Also wanted the Freak due to driver/wrench combo. It can remove lug nut from wheels easily (from youtube review), so good all rounder for me.

Hammer drill will take care of some brick drilling and normal drilling.

          • @Xantar: It might be worth noting that Bosch green tools use different batteries to Bosch blue (blue represents the pro range of tools).

            • @Soave: I actually got this. The battery are interchangeable with my current tools

      • I checked my Makita charger and it only shows 230-240V option at back, no mention of 110-120V, but if you confidence that USA charger will work on 240V and since you already have Bosch tools then good luck, you may buy it! check this one out. Makita combo DeWalt combo AEG combo

I bought a similar Bosch blue drill + impact driver kit a few years ago. Really like the quality of the Bosch blue kit but they don't have a lot of garden stuff in their range so you'll need to dip your toes into another battery system if you want to get a whipper snipper, blower etc. in future.

2ah is plenty for handyman/DIY stuff. I re-screwed our entire roof with 2x 2ah batteries. Just buy a cheap corded hammer drill for anything heavy duty

  • Bought similar drill maybe 10 years ago on Amazon. It's nearing end of life but has been fantastic

    • Bosch is pretty durable. Never had problem with any of my bosch tools. But YMMV.

  • For $51 delivery. May as well join Prime for anyone considering.
