I have this router and I do like it, but whenever I connect to it Wired I always get a Strict NAT type and nothing I change to fix it actually works.

Something is not configured properly with your setup. Who is your ISP? Do you have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

      • Telstra, we have Cable currently but moving to FTTC in a few days so hopefully it changes then.

        • Upload speed will go to 20Mbps or 40Mbps depending on your plan. Do you have a cable modem, Telstra modem and the Asus connected in that order or cable modem to Asus?

    • I've got the next version up but same issue. Port forwarding doesn't work either.

      • Answer the questions above and I will try to assist.

        • Superloop with FTTP. Could it be superloop? I need a reason to ditch these guys.

          • @ChillBro: FTTP you beauty. Nah it is not a Superloop problem. Do you have the Asus plugged straight into the nbn NTD?

            • @Twix: Yes but through the 'wallports'

              • @ChillBro: Through the wall ports is fine. That is the right config for FTTP and Superloop don't use Carrier Grade NAT. Is UPnP on?

                • @Twix: Yes it is

                  • @ChillBro: Port forwarding should be working. Have done a factory reset and are on the newest firmware?

                    • @Twix: I had to do a reset right before port forwarding since I forgot my login and just checked that I am on the latest firmware

                      • @ChillBro: No reason why it's not working properly. Test Launtel or Aussie BB on a spare port for free and ask them to switch off Carrie Grade NAT and see what happens.

                        • +1

@Twix: Won't help, superloop use dynamic ip and if that doesn't work switching carriers will do nothing. It's something else in the settings that your generic advice won't help.

                          • @lgacb08: I already said that. I thought it was going to be a double NAT problem but that is not the case. The router has been reset, latest firmware, UPnP is on and plugged into the nbn NTD. Got any other ideas?

                            • +5

@Twix: Have you turned it off and on again?

    • +1

      Need to enable upnp

  • Wow, looks like a good deal.

  • not wifi 6e

    • +10

Is there such a thing for 89 dollars?

      • +1

        More like $900-$2000.

        • -5

          xiaomi ax6000 is around $150 for wifi6e

          • +8

            @SS625: Nah the Xiaomi AX6000 is Wi-Fi 6.

            • -3

@Twix: you need to double check

              • @SS625: Wi-Fi 6 only. It is not Wi-Fi 6E.

              • @SS625: how about the ax9000, i was interested in that or the tp ax6000. im kinda scared of the xiaomi, but seems like a great deal.

                • @Hugh G Rection: TP-Link is Chinese too. Scared about backdoors?

                • @Hugh G Rection: my xiaomi wanted me to try and setup via the mobile phone app ….eventually figured out how to setup without phone with the skimpy english documentation ……now i stick with to link and asus as more doco in english ……

          • +2

@SS625: It's wifi 6 enhanced what they call it, not 6e

            • @abs898: im actually in the market for a new router. i want it to be cheap, but with the features i want, it keeps pushing me up to the mid range or top of the line ones. :(

              • @Hugh G Rection: I have the Xiaomi AX6000, can't be happier tbh for what I paidm

              • @Hugh G Rection: Get the Xiaomi AX9000

              • +1

@Hugh G Rection: what are the specific features that you want, because many advanced features can be utilized with scripts on AsusWRT-Merlin

  • +1

    Already OOS

  • +1

    Back in stock for me

    And gone.

  • won't add to cart :(

  • Darn missed it

  • How does this compare to NetGear R7000 ?

    • +2

that one i think is ac1900, you want to look for ax for wifi6

  • -6

If im fully vaccinated do i really need wifi 6/6e if i have full speed 5G coverage using my body as an antenna. If your 5G connection frequently drops out , telstra recommends a booster shot .

  • +1

darn that was a good deal… almost clicked, looked too long, then it was gone.

    • +3

I clicked 3 camel and found was $200+ then bought straight away

      • +1

Just bought a new router last month so ummed and ahhed a little. ¯_(ヅ)_/¯

I'm sure I would have figured something to do with it at that price.

      • 3 Camels = Buying prophet

  • +1

Damn - I bought this less than a month ago for $155 from Amazon.

    • When was this model even $155 ? That was from Amazon UK, don't think was local AU model

      • It was $255.

I used a $100 amazon gift card as well.

  • Nooo… missed it :-(

  • Damn this would go well with the Asus mesh devices that was recently posted

  • Dang. Missed it.
Had spent a good chunk of time this week looking at these Asus routers. Bummed I missed this!

  • please add more qty…missed it

  • Is there an easy way to tell if a router will work with NBN HFC?

    • +2

Pretty all routers will auto connect via DHCP nowdays.
If not you can just call ISP to connect via PPPoE

    • +1

you just need to use the NBN supplied hfc modem …….i’ve no issues with 3 different routers on my hfc connection ……optus were a nuisance when i first got it ….was getting drops outs and had to use the optus supplied router with the hfc modem as they log in to do end to end tests ….. later put my top link router back on …..

    • +2

with HFC you get NBN connection box right? basically you can connect "any" router to this NBN connection box and just use it.
But remember, if you trying to use "VoIP" phone from your ISP, you will need to use ISP supplied router which you can connect your phone device to it.
Otherwise, just use any wireless router.

  • Wow so cheap, would have bought it even though I don't need one.

  • the price drops so much. bought earlier this year for $200ish

  • Miss out

  • I have this router and if you could get it for $89 that's a steal.

  • ahh. miss out!!!

  • Wow according to 3C this was a perfect deal. Sadly, its no more.

  • At less than half the previous cheapest price, wondering if this was a pricing error?

    • Surely it was. listed normally for $250.

I bought on sale recently at $200 and that that wasn't too bad.

      $89 us ridiculous.

      • I just got charged so I reckon it's happening. Amazon usually charges after they confirm stock or ready to ship.

        • Interesting. I mostly paid by existing gift card balance but needed to pay last $5 with CC. Gift card balance was deducted immediately but CC hasn't been charged yet.

          • @tbone74: It's changed to Preparing for Shipment so I guess it's happening

            • +1

@abs898: Received shipment notification, expected to receive today.

              • @tbone74: I don't have prime so expected delivery is 11Jan

                • @abs898: Yeah I have Prime so already shipped and received.

Still seems likely it was a pricing error but they have honoured it so a great bargain for any that managed to get in an order!

                  • @tbone74: Out for delivery for me. Price is up to $239 now so looks like maybe they were trying to make it $189 like the other one but accidentally dropped the 1

                    Delivered.

  • Would have liked this

  • +1

    how did I miss that

  • +4

Sold out in 7 mins of being posted here, don't feel bad most of us missed it.

  • +1

i just wanted to become a god gamer, but now i will never be because i dont have this gaming router

  • This price didn't come up on CCC
    https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B089MR1S31

    • If the price didn't last long then it won't be seen on CCC. I don't know how frequently CCC polls but it certainly wouldn't be every 5-10 minutes which it would need to be to capture this brief drop.

  • Beware of this model. I might've got a bad one, but I had no end of mysterious random WiFi signal drops despite multiple factory resets. I had to return it in the end, and much happier with a TP-Link.

    • I bought one during Black Friday sales and has been rock solid here.

    • Same - with WiFi signal drops

    • Is it the signal or just "Disconnect no internet"? Cause I got the latter and I fixed it by disabling roaming assistant (cuts the connection if you move to far out of range)
