Kogan 8" Agora Tablet Half Price $129 + $16.90 Shipping ($145.90) - Also 10" and 7" Half Price

21

Edit: extended until midnight tonight. Not that you guys thought it was any good. ;) 10" at $169 is probably the real highlight. My bad.

Kogan sent me this in an email. Expires midnight tonight. All three of their tablets (10", 8", 7") are half price. I recall the 8" being half decent (for a budget tablet) in reviews so used it for headline.

  • I almost posted this 15mins ago.. but got lost looking at other OzBargin posts along the way…

    • I'd assumed it had been posted, so logged in to see what people thought of the deal…but I couldn't find it. So figured I'd better do it myself.

      • Me too, well done on getting in first.

ps: it's not my fault that they got 50% of $329 wrong for the 10".

    • Ha, didn't notice that, and it sure does say OVER 50% off in the email.

  • How does the community compare the 7" agora to the 7" ainol novo 7 (ICS version) and other similar tabs that are avaiable around the traps.

    • +4

I have both and my agora i can definitely say that the kogan doesn't get much use. It's slower, the touchscreen is a challenge, screen keeps intermittently comes out of standby (draining battery) and is still on Android gingerbread. Get the Novo instead for $30 more (or whatever) is my recommendation.

With the Novo's - you want the ones with allwinner a10 cpu in them (so that's the advanced II, elf and Aurora).

may as well just use your phone?

  • Deals for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 3G please! DWI is having it for sale at $538 with free shipping but I wouldn't buy from them due to bad reviews :(

  • Any chance these can be updated to ICS?

    • There's a Cyanogenmod 7 ROM with bugs, but no ICS as yet.

  • I would suggest getting the Zenithink C91 instead of this, its quicker A9 @ 1.1-1.2Ghz with 1GB DDR2 RAM, larger 10.2" with ICS, has a higher resolution and a better GPU, better battery and 8GB of onboard with expansion, many more features…, costs $177 with free postage on eBay… http://goo.gl/rvI1C

  • Is three hours battery life standard for an Android tablet like this?

    • you'd be lucky to get 1.5-2 hours, 3 hours would be a hope !

    • -1

For the no name brand, yes. That's why it's worth paying a little more for something that's actually useable.

    • I got 5.5 hrs with mine tho…. ;)

  • I remembered the 7 " was $129 when it came out so $99 is not half price as they have advertised.

It's best to hold off and wait for the Google Nexus tablet coming out later in the year (possibly as soon as May) for $200-250. You're guarantee updates and it will get full developer community support.

  • I would rate bigW MSI windpad far superior quality. Had one 10" before and end up selling on ebay the day after. Good luck

These are simply Chinese made tablets with a Kogan brand on it. In essence the premium you pay for these tablets before the discount is not the quality but the Aussie brand name and local warranty.

At 50% its only worth considering if you can't wait a month for your tablet to arrive from China. Otherwise I'd rather be buying a Ainol tab or similar since they offer better specs and have Ice Cream Sandwich preinstalled.

  • and what happens when they shit themselves and you have no warranty ??

  • Looks like junk
