Masterbuilt 560 Gravity Fed Charcoal Smoker Grill $999 ($850 w/GC) + Postage or $0 C&C @ Barbeques Galore

140

To get the $850 price you would need to buy 5x $200 Celebration Gift Cards (I believe there's a max of 5 gift card redemptions when placing an order at barbecues galore), see this thread, plenty of stock at the Coles stores I checked.

Haven't purchased one myself, as I need a better job to justify the expense, but seems like a solid deal for those in the market.

Good price. Bought one at launch in Aus over a year ago and use it a few times a week, no issues at all. Would buy again.

  • Colour me intrigued. Could this replace your bbq or two completely different things?

I love my 560 but not sure I would totally replace it with the other bbq. Perfect for slow cooking/smoking but all the heat is indirect. It can get blistering hot inside but if you want to cook over a naked flame it won't help for that. This paired with a WebberQ is a good combination

      • Thanks for the insights Jospeh and Tool

    • The new 800 series has both grill plate and flat plate you can interchange, so you could in theory replace your bbq, but gas is so convenient when in a rush.

  • Agree with comments above. Had mine for over a year. Great for low and slow, I've made some amazing short ribs, pulled pork, chook etc
Use my Weber GA for cooking direct over Charcoal a couple times a week. Use my gas BBQ for quick cooking. Each 3 Bbqs have their purpose and convenience, the masterbuilt does not replace your standard bbq

And you can use the gasser on days of total fire ban - unlike solid fuel bbq (i.e. charcoal and pellet grills)

  • Agreed with comments above.

Anyone else have issue getting it to pair via wifi through android? Works with Bluetooth, but having to use an old iPhone if I want to monitor it remotely.

Edit: AFAIK there's no direct comparable product on the market in Australia. When I contacted Char-Griller in August re the 980, the response received was "At this stage there are no plans to bring this model into Australia”.

    • How about the masterbuilt 40 inch digital charcoal? Is that available in ausfralia?

That's an electric smoker, not a gravity fed smoker so it doesn't take lump wood/briquettes and it can't get nearly as hot. You can sear and cook on the 560 if you crank it up to max (700f/370C).

    • Have you updated the 560 firmware with the iPhone? I believe one of the updates was meant to address connectivity issues. They also released a new version of the app recently, might be worth trying.

I had no luck whatsoever connecting my Samsung Galaxy S21, but have tried 3-4 other phones without issues..

      • I did back in August. If there was a newer firmware since then it should have downloaded automatically when I reconnected my iPhone last week right?

        Yeah I have an S21 :/

        • Oh bugger. Good luck then haha. I tried everything to connect it to the S21 - different wireless settings and networks, better antenna on the MB560, placing the router right next to the MB560, using another phone as a hotspot - nothing worked. I replaced the control board in the end (MB's distributor in Aus were great to deal with) and still nothing changed.

I can only assume it's somehow specific to the S21.

    • I've found there are 2 masterbuilt apps. The one with an orange icon is the older one but for me pairs better and doesn't disconnect

  • I was looking for a pellet grill for ages before I spotted a deal for an Inkbird temperature controller for my Kamado. No longer need the pellet grill for low 'n' slow, as the Inkbird keeps the kamado (an Akorn) rock solid for as long as there's charcoal in it. I've heard nothing but good reviews of the Masterbuilt though.

  • I had a look at it today in the store.
Looks very good and solid esp. considering the price.
I would buy one if I did smoking more often.

  • I might give it a shot. Whats the difference between the 560 or the 800?

    • Size.
