    Harris Technology… Heh

  • What is the significance of steel housing?

    • The metal switch will stay cooler than the plastic one (metal dissipates heat, plastic not so much). Metal is also a grounding material so with a surge, shorter path to ground rather than through the components.

      • resilience

it goes back to the olden days when most desktop switches were metal and they could be used in semi workplace, factory type environments and not get F'ed up like cheap plastic box switches

  • I can't find a reliable, in-stock & affordable supplier for a 10 gbe fanless unmanaged* network switch.

    My shortlist of QNAP QSW-2104-2T (2 10gbe ports, with 4 2.5 gbe), TP-Link TL-SX105 or Netgear XS505M (5 10gbe ports)

They all seem to be stocked out or hiked in price. Any suggestions team OZB?

*yes unmanaged fanless because its going on a desk, simple home network — agreed there's great options when you get enterprise-scale gear

    • +1

Considered chucking a 4 port SFP+ card with RJ-45 transceivers into your home server? Probably the cheapest option, but some assembly required…

      • Definitely a good option.

I'm in a similar boat where my always on PC is the defacto NAS box, and it'd be cheaper for this setup for the couple of other PC's that'd make use of the speeds instead of a 10Gbe switch.
