Have this air fryer. Cannot say a bad thing about it, absolutely love it!

    • My biggest issue with air fryers is they only have a 60 minute timer. Anything longer and I need to go back and reset the timer.

      • +1

my longest cook has been 40 or 45 mins, can I ask what you're cooking to need more?

        • Slow roast or reverse sear.

      • +3

What takes more than 60 minutes to air fry? What about electricity consumption?

        • +1

I don't know about food that takes longer than 60 minutes but as far as I know electricity consumption is much less than your standard oven.

  • What about cleaning it, does it take as much time as an oven or there of? Also I am guessing you would need to put them under your rangehood due to smoke /fumes? I personally like the halogen glass bowl design.

Yeah, the basket style is just awful to clean. I've had 2 Philips airfryers, a Breville Smart Airfryer Oven and an Instant Pot duo Crisp.

The Breville is also awful to clean, the Duo Crisp not only cooks the best, is discounted to $280 on Amazon right now, and cleaning it is literally cleaning a metal bowl.

You've save the $160~ in no time in cleaning time / products. It also heats up the quickest - like 30s to preheat. The Philips used to take a few minutes, and the Breville takes a long ass time ..i.e. power savings as well. Plus, the instant pot has around 9 other functions.

    • 270 at Costco it appears fwiw

      • I'm a Kiwi and got mine for $350NZ and was very happy [ from flybuys] - the only problem was it came after like 20 days, and as I'd moved across the country for a new job, I had to largely eat out [but everyone else was OOS and also $400], so spent a lot of $$ [and health currency] on fast food as I was at a serviced appt [with no oven :/].

Flybuys rubbed salt in the wound, because they discounted it to $280NZD a day or two before they finally dispatched my order.

Point is, you can't really lose buying this. I'd pay $1000 for one in a heartbeat if that's where the market was at for these devices.

        • Are you talking about the Duo Crisp?

    • I am genuinely pulled towards the Duo Crisp due to pressure cook + air fry options, thank you so much for this info. What else do you like about it? Also some are saying AirFry is not too big and it harder to clean than Phillips?

      • +3

As i said, it pre heats the fastest [and cooks the fastest], has multiple cooking options, is by far the easiest to clean [this is literally #1], and cooks the best of them all.

        It's sturdy/solid and non-cheap looking too. About 8-10 kg.

I've been eating out of an airfryer for most of the past 2-3 years, if you want to buy once and buy right [instead of like me, although to be fair I got my first one 4-5 years ago, well before the Duo Crisp was available], its the best machine I've used and if there's a better one out of the 100's out there, you'll be searching long and hard for a mild improvement.

Cheer mates, I’m sold. Will get it

        • Can you put foil into the basket? Will it still cook properly?

I’m just abit hesitant because the lid looks abit bothersome to have to open it and then use gloves to put the basket out compared to pulling a tray out. Thoughts?

          • @Danneo: Redditors are doing it, you can see the discussion if you google the product name and [tin] foil. Haven't done it myself.

Don't need gloves, there's a big thingy you put the lid on to ensure nothing gets damaged, and use a tea towel to grab the basket.

Pulling a tray out is nice, you still have to put the tray somewhere though. And the tradeoff is cleaning. With the basket ones the metal mesh at the bottom of the tray is a trap for food/oil, as is the plastic basket.

        • Sold me on it too

          • @Radar: Cheers, I'm sure you and whomever uses/cleans it will enjoy it.

Much fewer calories too - I'm down from around 190 to 160lb since the 2020 April Lockdown. That's with a 7-8 month foot injury in 2021, and then Auckland lockdown when it was getting better. That'd be similar with all air fryers, so I didn't initially mention it, but in terms of deciding whether or not to buy any air-fryer, it's huge.

    • Got my crisp for $219 back in July from Amazon. Very easy to clean.

      • Anyone have link to the actiCrisps?

  • we currently have a tefal actifry which we love as it rotates the chips for you. All these ones u seem to have to shake them up yourself. The actifry is on the way out so noisy now after 6 years does anyone know an alternative

  • do people still use traditional oven now that airfryer are better, faster and more affordable?

I'm looking for an airfryer myself but always confused with the sizing. What is big enough to do a roast pork crackling?

    • Ovens (well, excluding your super old ones) have superior results to air fryers, but obviously air fryers are cheaper and have lower volume of air to heat. The only who rave about air fryers are those who don't have an oven, or those that have shit ovens. Choice did a test on this which found that you're better off upgrading your oven if "better cooked food" is your aim.

      • This is such a narrow minded view.

Sure ovens may cook better but people love the convenience of an air fryer. It’s a small oven. Much faster to heat up, no ‘pre heating required’, no wasted space.

They are both excellent for their intended uses.

        • I didn't state that an air fryer wasn't more convenient, but rather that they they're not magical devices that replace ovens like what the poster had stated - they still push/pull hot air to cook, but their form factor means that they simply aren't as good as ovens for cooking food.

          • +1

@Tyrx: I’ve got a great oven and still rave about my air fryer.

          • +1

@Tyrx: isnt the convection in the air fryer different because its in a far smaller space and circulates faster ?
thats the claim they make about why its reasonable to involve the word "fry" cause they are claiming the crisp seal that happens and stops the middle of the food drying out occurs faster - a few YT videos doing comparisons (not the comedy ones with the two fellas trying to blind guess which is which) found shorter times needed to get the food crisp e.g. Anne Reardon testing frozen potato chips had to put back the oven chips for an additional 5 minutes excluding the preheat time and Im guessing she has a very expensive and capable oven with cooking being her whole schtick

            • +1

@etherspin: I have a decent fan forced oven and i always thought and was against the idea of buying a air fryer as i noticed some people said its pretty much the same thing but ovens take longer etc and finally i had credit to use and wasnt sure what to get so i got a not very good brand air fryer and still i am impressed with the results of it. Its definitely a lot quicker but i also find its easier to use and generally is different results because of how much quicker the air circulates. I havent used my oven ever sincei got my air fryer.

  • Is this model discontinued now and its on runout price? Was trying to read about it on Philips website, doesn't seem to be listed.

  • IS this really small? I cant really tell by the pics, I have a 12L air Fryer but dont really use a lot of the space.
