UberEats driver : I think I delivered a package of drugs...

Hi,

I have recently started doing deliveries as Uber eats driver. Today I got a trip notification about Uber connect and accepted it (first time ever to do it). The sender and the recipient both looked dodgy as and the package itself looked pretty suss. An old box of incense sticks.

I feel quite guilty for doing the delivery. Is there any other uber delivery driver with a similar experience?

I'm sure Auspost delivers drugs all the time. Out of sight, out of mind.

You're not the police. You can always refuse to deliver / accept the item. Remember, you're a "contractor".

    • Cheers.

      Good point,
      Thats how it should be..
But Uber, the horrid organisation that it is.. has measures attached to drivers performance such as ‘acceptance rate’, ‘cancellation rate’ etc.
If they go below a certain percentage, Uber hinders/blocks your account

So you as a driver are almost compelled to bow down to Uber’s directives which takes away your own personal choice and discretion on what jobs to accept/decline..

According to Mr Neil, Uber Eats is agnostic regarding cancellations.

When questioned by Justice White about whether there would truly be no consequences for failing to deliver an order, Mr Neil said Uber Eats was "agnostic" about cancellations in deliveries.

Yep, we are independent contractors and we transport package from point A to point B. It's okay, totally worth the extra $5 for the Connect trip lol

It was good money and that's why I took it.

I transport ladies of the night to their various jobs - is this the same moral issue?

    • In most places, prostitution isn't illegal.

      Drug trafficking definitely is.

If the driver is suspicious, they can report it.

Got any favourite/funny/scary stories you’d like to share?

Delivering women to their jobs at awkward times of night where they may be scared due to weird men lurking around is a very honorable thing to do. Good on you!

Did you Atleast get a 5 star rating for it ?

    • +5

      No. No rating at all.

      • Bunch of d*heads.

Report their asses I’d say 🤣🤣

      • Yeah they probably churned the phone number after a day or two of deliveries.

Where did you pick up the "package"? asking for a friend.

  • +4

Lol. There’s a slight chance it could have been incense, right?

I wonder what other innocuous packaging they could have used that would look even more suspicious? Perhaps an old cereal box with “not drugs” scrawled across it?

  • No one would be stupid enough to send drugs by Uber. Then again most drug dealers are selling drugs cause their not rocket 👩‍🔬 scientists. But no-0ne would be that stupid. Surely?

LOL their is lost package delivery I’d happily have dropped at my front door by mistake

    • No idea… Not sure how much the customer paid for it, but I got nearly $30 for the delivery. On looking at the package I was thinking to my self, if these are incense sticks, the receiver could have easily bought them for a couple of bucks.

there have been cases of dealers using couriers to deliver their packages in past. so not surprising

relatively inconspicuous and low cost. comes with added live gps tracking too.

    • Given they have your name as a uber driver, you probably don't want to lose a package full of drugs.

      They're not rocket scientists…

Just another day as hopeful for a Cartier Watch. Deliver enough of it and gold will head your way!

  • You see in movies Triads use incense sticks.

Did you ask if they had an bargains you could share?

    • Will keep that in mind to ask for it next time.

  • +1

Did you light a few sticks on the way? Normally Uber Eats drivers steal a few fries and sips of the beverage.

    • +1

I am a non smoker and have never done drugs so it did not interest me.

      • OP, do you know with absolute certainty that you were delivering drugs from one point to another?

Here is another question: before you accepted the job, were you fully aware that it would be a drug run?

        Hindsight is always 20/20.

You can always report suspicious trips to the police via Crime Stoppers.

        • I am not 100% sure. For me to be 100% sure, I would need to have opened the package. But the package itself looked suspicious and no one would pay to deliver a packet of incense sticks.

Here is another question: before you accepted the job, were you fully aware that it would be a drug run?

Obviously not. The app just tells me to pick up from a given address and the delivery address. What's inside the package, I wouldn't know.

You can always report suspicious trips to the police via Crime Stoppers.

Guess I can do that, but considering that they know my name, I don't want to risk the safety of myself and my family.

In the meantime, I will not be accepting any connect trips.

          • @RSmith: I think you just need to light an incense stick, relax and let it go. If a well off person wanted incense sticks, they'd pay overs for them to be delivered.

Now you've noted it. If any patterns emerge in the future, investigate/report.

they legitimately could be incense sticks, and still have a use in the transportation of drugs, so nothing is innocent.
