I had these cameras for a while and have now gone back to Eufys (but upgraded to 2K quality for less than $749)

If you have a "Google Home" these cameras are great as they integrate well into the "Home" app, however they only provide you with 3 hours history free of charge. If you want further back you need to pay for the Nest Aware subscription.

Other things i did not like about this camera:
-Poor quality 1080p. Comparing to my old 1080p Eufy cameras they looked very subpar - close to 720p. (Also tried with hard wiring the cameras - doesnt fix the quality)
-Poor battery life. In a very infrequently visited part of my house (which means cameras on standby nearly all the time) i still found these cameras were draining up to 15% per week.

    • Thks for the info. I'm making this exact decision now lol.

Which Eufys did you get? The 4-pack 2k for $600? Also, how much longer battery wise you reckon the Eufys last?

I moved to the 2C Pro (i originally had the 2C - 1080p version before i switched to Google) - you ccan get a 4 pack for around $600.

All my Eufy cameras have reached near the advertised battery life, the 'C' versions of the cameras have an advertised battery life of about 180 days. I found mine were lasting to around 160-170 days on the 1080p versions. I haven't had the 2K versions for the that time, having a look at the battery lifes, they are about 65% and i only installed them end of September. So they look on the money as well.

If you are considering going full blown Eufy - there is one issue. The doorbell sucks for notifications - the chime from the basestation works fine but if you want notifications to your phone app. You will either get them 30 minutes later or not at all from my experience. I ended up keeping the Google doorbell (which also sucks BTW) - but hard wired it so it's on all the time. Hardwiring it is the only way to get near instant notification via your Google Home speakers and phone.

        • Cheers, I'm on a Nest/Hue setup with random wifi plugs. Can't be buggered with a doorbell… yet. Good to know about the batteries, that was my main concern.

Random query, can you like ping/notify when motion/objects are detected? I want to use one to automate my chicken coop door lol.

@TogTogTogTog: On both Google and Eufy they can do this, but its pretty dumb. You have motion zones and you basically just set it to notify you when it detects something moving. Not sure if you can IFTTT, if thats what you are intending. haven't tried it.

    • 3 hours history

Is it 3 hours of recorded content or just last 3 hours?

      • last 3 hours of recorded content (so when the cameras are triggered ) sorry should have clarified.

Thanks for the reply, I'm keen on getting eufy too, but only 16gb homebase storage is stopping me for all 4 cameras that record in 2k

          • @hopper: No problems - Eufy said in early 2020 that they were going to allow expandable storage on the Homebase 2. We are nearly 2 years down the road and they have yet to do so. I just ended up paying the $100US for the cloud storage.

@11112007: Was planning to buy homebase 1 and sell home base 2 but no luck in finding one

This guy says the nest cam is better quality during day but worse at night.

    • I was about to get the Eufy 2Cs in the boxing day deal (~$470 for the 4 pack). However decided not to given the security flaw that I read about (you can delete the videos from the basestation by pressing the sync button on the cams). Holding off to see if this gets fixed (apprently raised 9 months ago).

Are the 2C Pro's substantially better than the 2Cs?

    • Eufy look good, I want to use it as a camera to watch my cat while I'm away (wirelessly). Is there a way to access the recording remotely?

  • How is this a good price?
    Cheaper at office works.

    • I think the google 1 credit only applies when you purchase the product from the Google store.

      • That's only if u have the 2TB cloud plan

With poor support from Google on pixel phones I am keeping away from Google hardware.

  • On a side note, as Eufy got mentioned. Does anyone have thoughts on either 2c pro vs the new spotlight solocams? Not worried about it get stolen as I can mount it higher.

  • I'm considering Eufy 2c Pro over these Nest Cam for 2k clips & non sub fee. But the Eufy has a serious flaw which allows thieves to wipe out the base's data just by holding the 10s reset button at the cams. Seems like no one cares about that here? Is there a way to work around the flaw?

    • I held off on the boxing day deal after reading about this flaw. Defeats the purpose if a thief can delete his own video :)

    • The Eufy basestation can be operated wirelessly, doesnt have to be plugged into your router. So you can effectively hide it if you are able to somewhere in the house. Another way around is to subscribe to their cloud service. I find that it uploads the clips pretty quickly. Alternatively, buy the Solo cameras - they dont need the homebase.

      • The thief doesn't need to touch the homebase. Recorded clips in the base will be deleted remotely if the reset button on the cam is held for 10s. That's the flaw!

        • Depends how high your camera is, mine are way out of reach. You would need a ladder - most Eufys ive seen mounted around my neighbourhood are the same. Not trying to justify a work around it is rediculous that it hasnt been patched since it was called out earlier this year, just calling out how unlikely it will be in real world situation.
