How easy is it to sell a brand new iPhone at 5% off RRP?

Which iphone is easiest to sell / most popular? Is it the iphone 13 pro max 256gb?

You're asking the wrong group. Ozbers will already have discounted giftcards to buy their own iPhones instead of from random strangers for a measly 5% off.

Best time to sell a new iphone is when new model is released and you are lucky to get one of the first ones when stocks are difficult to come by

But 5% OFF is a joke. Even though its new, its not really

    1. Not easy when ebay is routinely at 10% off or better and stacks with discounted cards. Will also have full legit warranty

    2. If anything middle tier pro would be more popular I’d say.

    • Thanks for the insight - what would be a reasonable discount to sell for? And would 256gb be most popular?

You're approaching it the wrong way. Just go on ebay/gumtree/fb … see what other people are selling it for. You can see recent sales on ebay. Low ball a few people on gumtree/FB see how low you can get them.

That's how you figure out the "street price"

    • EBay, JBHiFi, Student discounts regularly 5-10% off retail. It sounds like you are trying to arbitrage an overseas model. It’s not worth it for 5%. Many people buy iPhone wanting to claim 10% GST for work so this isn’t possible unless you as a seller have an ABN and willing to pay GST. Also Apple direct has free postage etc. which will cut into your 5% profit margin. Many people who pay full retail for a phone will just prefer to buy direct anyway. You may have a small market for the US model with the mmWave modem which the Aussie one doesn’t have but there are no mmWave networks set up here yet so only people care who will keep their phones for 5+ years. If people wanted to save 5% then they could buy direct from overseas themselves anyway.

how do you know OP's bra is inactive?

Ask yourself would you buying iphone at 5% off from strangers?

    • -3

I wouldn't because I'm an ozbargainer. But I imagine there would be some people who would be interested, perhaps when iphones get released and it is difficult to get stock. Some people may even pay a premium? Is this not the case for iphones? I'm not too sure, never been on the market for an iphone.

If you’re trying to suss out avenues on scalping tech just be normal and target ps5 consoles lmao

        • I'm not scalping, I'm ok with a small loss. Salary sacrificing iphone and selling. Then buying a cheaper phone lol

          • +7

@brainactive: Then sell at 15% off

          • @brainactive:

I imagine there would be some people who would be interested,

Of course theres a sucker born everyday.

Just need to wait until stumble upon you … LOL

          • +5

@brainactive: So you're making a false employee declaration that the phone is primarily for work?

How easy is it to sell a brand new iPhone at 5% off RRP?

    For a store? Pretty easy.

For a private sale? Doubtful. No idea why anyone would risk a private sale for such minimal $ saving when they could likely do better during a sale or discounted gift card promo.

  • +1

What are you trying to achieve?

    • An iPhone sale at 5% off RRP

  • +1

    Gumtree.

Buyers from Russia, willing to pay more than rrp.

  • If it still in box etc.

    And got warranty pretty good.

    Not at RRP.

But even a s21 brand new won't get sold at ten percent off retail unless you lucky

  • Pretty hard to sell to a stranger. Ok if it's a friend.

    • What is a reasonable discount then?

      • +1

There isn't a set amount. I wouldn't buy a sealed box iPhone for 50% off from a private seller, knowing how many scams there are with resealed boxes or stolen units that end up being locked week or two later and becoming bricks.

You'll just need to find a gullible person to buy it off you at an agreed amount. Look at similar items on eBay or Gumtree for price examples of the current market rather than asking people for arbitrary percentages.

Also, this headache isn't worthwhile for a minor salary sacrifice saving. You could well get scammed yourself too.

      • What's reasonable is different for everyone.

Plus a bunch of different factors.

Not that I want an iphone, but bare minimum for me to even take a look would be 50-60%. Cos it's an iphone.

Probably more flexible with an Android.

        But that's me, YMMV.

What is a reasonable discount then?

I wouldn't even look at your ad unless it was a minimum 25% off, and then you'd have to be local for me to even consider making an offer.

  • Put an ad on fraudbook and scumtree at 5% off RRP and see what the offers you get.

Just remember it's CASH only and no postage!

If it's easy for you to sell, most likely the buyer is scamming you. Happy New Year!

    • Happy new year! By the sounds of it, seems like there's not much of a market for phones from private sellers?

      • There is quite a market for iPhones from private sellers, not just at such a small discount to standard process for the reasons outlined by others.

I sold 2 iPhones last year privately and there are plenty for sale on eBay, gumtree and Facebook for example.

        • Did you sell brand new (sealed) or used and how much discount did you offer if you don't mind me asking

iPhone 13 is holding a lot of value, even for an iPhone, but not 95% of the value. If the person who gave it to you got it from Apple Store I think Apple extend their 2 week no questions asked return policy to a month or whatever for xmas.

    • Items purchased at the Apple Online Store received between 1 November 2021 and 25 December 2021 may be returned until 8 January 2022.

    You're dreaming…..

  • IP13pro is their first engineering marvel, anything else is classified as junk by the discerning user.
Unboxed with your ID and ccard -15%
else a call to you know where…

  • A 5% discount on a second-hand phone isn't a bargain.

  • +1

E-Z. Fb or the ole toothless tree.

    • Will there be any willing buyers though?

      • +1

        95% off - Yes

        5% off - No

Dude, it almost seems like you want all the answers without doing any of the work.

        • People sell phones for $50 off retail all the time. Just stick it up and have a go

  • +3

Better question: Would you buy brand new iphone from private seller using cash at 5% discount?

If you are not, at what discount level would u be willing to?
If you are, then surrender your OzB License.

  • +1

as a buyer, why would i take the risk of being scammed for a measly 5% off RRP?

    • Is there an easy way to prove it's a legit version? I'm guessing a receipt won't cut it?

    • Since everyone knows you can get 15% off discounted cards you’re actually spending $100 to be scammed.

  • RULE1: Always buy the BASE model. Its 128gb and thats more than enough memory!
RULE2: Always use discounts, discounted/sales and payment cards as well as cashbacks ~ every penny saved!
RULE3: Dont buy a new phone year in, year out now as good enough is good enough for a lot longer now. If you can just buy a new battery for a model 10 onwards, then do so. The longer you have your mobile the better now. Nothing, inc 5G is a reason to buy a new mobile as the other specs are all good enough…

    • Correct, however I’ve always opted for the biggest storage models, means they’re useful many years into the future. I only just changed from my iPhone 8 256g because of lack of storage. Bought the new phone, max model with discounted gift cards. Still very expensive, but at my usage, ends up being $3-400 per year at most, for a top end phone. This one will likely outlast my usual 3-4 years though.

    • +1

Those aren't useful rules. That's your subjective opinion on what's "good enough". That may not be the case for other people.

  • No warranty …. 5% off what? JBHIFI 45% discount

    • There would absolutely still be warranty.

  • 5-10% would be fine. Not sure what these guys saying 50-60% just to think about it or to take a look. They’re dreaming. You can tell they’re the low spec android crew.
