        • +2

          @Danstar

          Playland is indoors too

            • +6

@Danstar: is there a problem to stay at home and not to get covid. rather than waiting for hours for PCR or to get avail RAT ?

              • -6

@HolyCr4p: So you’re gonna stay at home forever?

                Not go to work?
                Not have a social life?
Not take your kids to school?
                Etc. etc.

                • @Danstar:

So you’re gonna stay at home forever?

You have not answered my question. If I or other people want to stay at home , it will be my choice not your choice and please be respect to other people's choice.
If you wanna go outside, go ahead and i dont care.
If you want to debate this one, i suggest to go to the forum.

@HolyCr4p: You replied to my comment where I stated some people going to stay inside for the rest of their lives…

I never said I have an issue with it. I just find it ridiculous ;)

            • +4

              @Danstar: Oh!

I had no idea what you were talking about until you said that.

Have you thought about going into politics?

              You'd be perfect

        • +3

I'd rather be indoor and healthy tbh

            • +1

              @Danstar: Chill bud.

            • @Danstar: Wow. So people that avoid close contact with others while a disease is quickly spreading are sheep. I guess I should go back to facebook and do my research.

              • -1

@Drogo: Where have I said any of those things?

You clearly have been warped by the media hysteria. Enjoy home life forever :)

                • @Danstar: Where did I say home life? I'm spending more time outdoors than ever.

                • @Danstar: I guess you are one of those that reckons it’s all fake and the world is telling one big lie? I unfortunately have to work with people like you.

                  • -1

@bennybaubles: Where have I once said I think “it’s” fake and the world telling a lie?

Come up with better retorts next time champ.

Unfortunate for your work colleagues to work with you too :)

            • @Danstar: controlled control? not sure what that means.
also throw away your tin foil hat bud that doesn't help

              • -1

@oranglama: Hahahah. I actually pre-quoted that in another comment somewhere. Nice one! Hahaha

          • +1

@oranglama: TBH the vast vast vast majority of modern medical literature (minus the previous 2 years of course) indicate that living indoors is not particularly healthy for you.

Diabetes, heart disease…. cough mental illness cough

            • @obi1: Can you please point me to the study where it says that is true for those that regularly exercise (indoors or outdoors) and get fresh air (open windows or a walk)

              • @Drogo: I will acquiesce, however, first allow me to make this one point.

When did it become accepted on the internet to demand sources whenever anyone states a position not held by the reader? I mean, could you imagine being that kid in class who raises their hand to demand sources every time the teacher mentions something that you're not personally aware of. You have a computer. You have the internet.

Literally on the first page of search results… There is a mountain of papers on this stuff, especially if you go down the Social science/Mental illness (the importance of social interaction) or Scandinavian health challengers (lack of sunlight) or Evolutionarily biology (monkey brains like trees) route but this is where I tag out. Good luck!

                • @obi1: Thankyou for posting. To address your first point, I did not demand, I thought I politely asked. Sorry If it didn't come across that way.
As to your main point, none of those links have resolved the issue. I absolutely agree though if you live your life indoors sitting with very little to no activity and no sun then this is bad for you, which I think is the point you were getting across.

            • +1

@obi1: I think the point being made is not the difference between staying indoors and being outdoors, but rather staying indoors vs going to a venue that is indoors and has greater risk of infection

            • @obi1: i was just expressing my opinion lol, so many keyboard warriors here. get yourself checked, coughing is one of the signs.

Our government want Omicron to spread broadly, given its assumed mild sickness profile, and on the basis it will create some natural immunity against future variants.

So there’s no point hiding, but smart to be vaccinated.

Surgical and cloth masks probably won’t work at all against something as infectious as Omicron, with the former rarely providing a proper seal whilst the latter nothing more than a fashion statement (and very few wear P2 masks) something the government know for certain, but once again refuse to acknowledge.

Just wish the government grew up and became more direct with their motive. Some honesty and integrity wouldn’t go astray.

      • -3

Pretty sure the government has said covid is here to stay and we can’t hide from it. Yet the majority of people on here can’t seem to grasp that idea

        • +7

The NSW government are stating the obvious due to their failures in controlling covid. WA seem to be doing reasonably well with their numbers - looks world leading to me.

Also the government’s message has been to blame the individual, and to place all responsibility on them - once again, due to government failings.

At the end of the day, they’re probably more concerned about hospital capacity. Their policies ultimately aim at avoiding a recession (due to sustained lockdowns) with view to favourable outcomes in upcoming federal election.

          • -6

@JeBs: WA is handling it cos no one cares about WA or really travels there.

If WA didn’t have income from the mining sector, they’d have nothing and crying poor to the federal government

            • +1

@Danstar: As opposed to the rest of the country benefitting from the profits of WA's mining and petroleum sector?

              • -1

@Tiggrrrrr: I’m all for mining mate. Hope WA don’t go woke anytime soon

                • +1

@Danstar: Probably a good thing that WA is a cultural wasteland. Otherwise they'd be in as much of a budget deficit as "woke" Victoria.

          • @JeBs: Unfortunately, WA's low rates appear to be wholly dependent on the existing border controls. Given the outcome from just 1 backpacker entering with Covid and the ensuing community spread, then as soon as the border controls are relaxed (next month) it is likely you will see the same issues in WA that other states have had.

Also, given that the latest cases of "positive" results include people that have been (double) vaccinated, then the border "control" measure requirements of vaccination certificates won't protect against transmission. Since most people in Perth, WA, seem unable to grasp the concept of wearing masks, safe distancing, or using the Covid check-in register/app, once more people start entering the state again it will be an interesting situation.

        • +1

And the government is always right?

        • I don’t think it’s as black and white as you portray it to be. I understand covid is likely to stay but there’s certainly no harm in being cautious. We still know very little about the Omicron strain, whether existing vaccinations are effective against it (and many are not yet eligible for the booster shot), we are also on the verge of more effective treatments and preventative measures against the virus and even for those in low risk categories, there is the inconvenience of having to line up for PCR tests and lengthy ER waiting room queues. If you’re open to living your life fully with no concern about infection, good for you, but I wouldn’t go around calling out and slandering others who prefer to stay cautious.

      • +3

It's likely nearly impossible for omicron to provide any decent natural immunity. Our body does a better job of creating natural immunity to lower respiratory infections and is not great at creating any long term immunity to upper respiratory infections. And omicron seems to be more of an URTI infection then one that sits down in the lungs. If that's our government's plan then it's beyond stupid. I think it's more the reality that we are dealing with politics. We are in a federal election year and I think any ruling party that would put large swaths of people back into lockdown would be looking at a difficult win and there are only 8 seats between parties in the current house.

        • Some natural immunity is better then none. And with the pace of new variants, it could make a difference.

Seems they wildly underestimated the impact of Onicron given surging hospitalisations though, and with it more deaths.

          But yes, politics comes first.

        • Lol. I read that as UTI

        • Also, isn't UTRI infection a redundancy?

      • -1

        Another ill-informed FB sheep .
The Govt only want biz to prosper and they don't give a `^ about paying for the $$$$$$ coming to their pockets with lives is their main intention .
The medical side of your argument is pure crap .

        • How is it pure crap? Honestly do some research your body's capacity at creating long term immune responses to upper respiratory infections. The data is quite clear. Although you're more than welcome to pretend that data doesn't exist and that decades of research and understanding of the human body is utterly wrong. But you'd have to have a basis for it.
