  • $879, was $1099?

High installation cost renders this kind of low-end CCTV product cost way more in the long run.

    • That was my question about how hard/expensive to instal and long run cost to maintan.
      Thank you.

How does stringing some ethernet cables included across the roof and turning on the box cost you anything in the long run?

      Such a dumb comment.

The comment is valid. These a pretty dam shit that will need to be replaced. Also technically illegal to self install in Australia.

      • Comment is very valid… Have done my own house and helped a few mates. I have some great hikvision stuff and a mate has a swann… Shall I say had a swann we had to go through and replace them anyway, was it replacing all the cables nah but due to different lenses etc in his 2nd purchase he opted for some 6mm instead of 2.8mm etc we had to fill in some holes etc. So woulda been alot easier to just spend the $1100 (great eBay promo) I did on my hikvision instead of 750 on his Swann

"Swann" like which one? These are all basically rebranded stuff all from Hikvision or similar anyway.

I have a recorder from this exact series in my small commercial premise but with different type of cameras and I have recorded onto a self upgraded 8TB HDD from 10 cameras. Never once stopped working and never had issues for over 3 years now.

If I moved this system onto my house it would be over kill but way better than anything offered by those popular things on OzB like Eufy cameras because I control everything.

Also what is 'valid' about a once off installation being costly over long term?

8 cameras and a 2TB hard drive (Seagate Skyhawk) and an Australian warranty. This is a really low cost powerful solution for home owners.

@plmko: Swann is cheap poo sorry dude it could have been their flagship one and still poo. He got it on one of those JB huge discounts and still paid like 800 or so for it so it could even have been this kit.

The simple fact is you don't have to use hikvision or any of the other brands NVR just set it up to a NAS or whatever else you want and then have full control too.

            • @quikstix: I paid $900 for my system and everything works out of the box as a compact all in one system. I don't care about what ifs from people who have no experience with the product when I've used footage that has actually assisted the Police * shrugs shoulders *

But I digress. Why should the target audience of this product care about anything else except that it works and has great features? You can write a thesis about why something else is better but someone can just buy this at Costco and have the entire system running the next day with zero down time and zero knowledge.

              • @plmko: Each to their own

@plmko: You'd still think your swan system is great until you use a Hik, Dauha or even a Reolink system and see what a turd it really is, if yours is that old it could even be a BNC unit 😂

If you gonna opt for running a decent cable run system go for a decent brand don't bother with Swann.

This man speaks the truth. My neighbours have a Swann set and the footage is so grainy it didn't help them when their house got burgled.

Better to get proper cameras like Hikvision or Dahua.

Only if you are stupid in your setup.

To add, I run my cameras on a seperate vlan on my home network with everything locked down to accessing it via my laptop and phones Mac addresses.

      • You think Swan is secure 😂

  • I am searching for a good CCTV system myself for my house. I note with interest the above mentioned brands - hikvision and Dahua. Any other suggestion please ? And what's the best place to get such CCTV systems here in Melbourne, Australia ? I would rather fork up a bit more money up front and get a good CCTV system then leave with regrets for the next 10 years LOL. Kindly advise.

      Bosch>Hik>Dauha>Reolink

      • Wow never knew Bosch made CCTV cameras. Thanks for the knowledge.

        • Bosch used to make brilliant camera when took over joint venture cctv department from Philips. Only Panasonic can compete at the time. Well, that legend ended about 10 years ago. Nowadays only government etc buying them for two reasons:1.not their own money, 2. Cover arse.

      • Wouldn't touch Bosch with a ten foot pole.

You have to try Dahua TiOC 2.0! There's plenty of YouTube video. Always get CCTV product from authorised local dealer. The local support worth a lot more compare to grey import with cracked firmware.

  • Bosch has been stuck in the analogue system like most of other top notch brands used to be. Similar with Honeywell, Pelco etc. Hikvision is world number one in terms of share volume, Dahua is 2nd about 80% of Hik. Currently Dahua is about 20-30% cheaper than Hikvision for similar products. It is really good value and great functionality to use their HDW3641, 5MP TiOC 2.0, and NVR4 series as a pack.
