In before the "Why not 40% off?" comments.

    Still bought a kilo. Cheers.

Thanks OP first purchase from airjo bought Enterprise.

  • Had family here over Xmas and went through the 1kg I bought mid way through December. Perfect timing. Thanks op

    • Ha exactly the same happened to me. Thankfully I jumped on the last deal.

    • I blew through about 500grams in an afternoon thanks to chrissy!

  • Thinking about giving it a go, anyone tried the Saratoga? I love strong beans ( coles beans strength 10 my current go to)

    • +1

Saratoga is nice, good flavour and strong.

    • +1

I think anything Airjo offers would be a huge step up from what Coles offers. Given these 30% deals come quite regularly, read the profiles and just give them a go. Sumatra generally gets a good rep here.

    • When people say they like "strong" coffee, do they mean "high in caffeine" or "borderline charcoal"?

      • Strong flavor?

        • So to get strong flavour, you just use a higher coffee to water ratio or brew a bit longer, regardless of bean origin / roast degree.

What's the strong flavour people are targeting? Roastiness?

          • @Anders: It is subjective. I've found some people define "strong" as having a bitter taste, some want high caffeine, others want lots of flavour, others just want the darkest roast you can through at them.

      • +1

When people say they like "strong" coffee you immediately know they know nothing about coffee other than watching George Clooney ads.

    • I just bought the Coles Urban Coffee Culture 10. It's pretty decent for $5. Decent crema, taste like proper coffee. The roast is darker than medium as described.

Thanks OP, used to buy Merlo beans when I'm not roasting my own but much prefer the AirJo Twilight blend.

These guys are my new go to roasters, especially when they have cracking discounts like this.

  • Bought - I'm looking forward to trying something new with the recommendations of the community! I surely am in middle age when buying coffee beans is a highlight!

  • How does this compare to Harris Beans seems expensive to me after all coffee is coffee?

    • -1

Mom prefers these over Harris. Preferably a blend of Sumatra and enterprise. I guess everybody has their own taste.

    • +1

It is dirt cheap for a good 1kg blend delivered to be honest.

    • +1

If you happy drinking Harris coffee, then you should stick with it, no need to waste your $$ in buying freshly roasted beans.

    • Different league to Harris beans, absolutely no contest.

      • Agree Harris are great beans

anyone has oracle touch and use these beans? Can you please tell me your grind setting number? Thanks

    • I use 12. 23gms of coffee produces a 1:2 yield.

      • Are you pouring a double shot and getting 30ml per shot? (so 60ml total?)

The oracle extraction is all based around getting 30ml per 25 or 30 second shot (so 60ml for the double head)

        • Correct. If you measure the portafilter with and without coffee, you will know how much coffee your own machine grinds and tampers. This dose for me in 23g. For espresso, the coffee to yield ratio needs to be 1:2. So I get 46ml off coffee in a double shot. You can increase or decrease the coffee dose in Oracle but that requires some fiddling around.

      • What is your average time to get 1:2 ratio ie 46ml coffee? I assume you weigh in your coffee liquid!

        • Yes. I just use the 30 sec for double shot and 25 sec for single shot. Remember on the Oracle, your dose is fixed (23g) and the tamper pressure is fixed. So you can vary only two variables - water volume and grind setting. I leave the water volume (as default 30 sec) and then change my grind setting to a point where the yield is in 1:2 ratio - Yes, I weigh the output shot for this. This setting for me is 12 on MY oracle - remember all Oracle machines could be slightly different.

I also keep an eye on the pre-infusion time (keep it around 6-9 secs) which is what I get for my grind setting.

      • What scales do you use?

        • +1

I just use my generic kitchen electronic scales- nothing too fancy.

  • How do I ask for a delayed delivery? I'm worried about the added delivery time due to weekends.

    • They are roasted to order. And beans should be used at least 8 to 10 days after roasting. So postal delays are fine as long as they are not delayed much beyond that. I don't think they offer delayed delivery.

      • I was thinking of vacuum freezing some before the degas phase for max freshness. I guess I'll order on Sunday, hope the deal doesn't expire

    • Just order it on Sunday? (if you were worried about being roasted-n-posted today)

  • What would be the go to option for black filter coffee?

  • Ordered the Sumatra to try this time! Thanks OP. The AirJo decaf and Pegasus are both excellent, taste fresh and have great flavour, just finishing a kilo of each in our house. Tbh I ordered Sumatra on the 40% off sale but mustn't have hit pay on the final screen or something because I can't find my order confirmation 😂

  • What grinder setting do ppl use with the Enterprise Blend with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro/Dual boiler?

    • Still trying to work this out myself.

    • See comment above by ubhishek: I use 12. 23gms of coffee produces a 1:2 yield. I guess setting for the grinder on the Oracle is similar to Breville SGP!

      • 12.23 Grams? What basket are you using?

        • Its not me, it is ubhishek comment, He set the grinder of his Oracle to 12 (auto grind/auto tamp), and it produce/grind 23gm of coffee IN and 46ml Out. It must be big basket. I bought bottomless portafilter and it came with its basket and it is big basket takes at least 22gm, so I don't use it as too strong for me. I fill my basket to 18/19gm.

      • Sorry can’t comment on the Breville grinder Pro settings as I don’t own one. You get a lot more freedom with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro/Dual boiler combo - the Oracle is a lot more restrictive/idiot proof. It grinds and tamps coffee for you and officially there is no way to adjust the dose or tamp pressure.

I just use the standard breville portafilter and I suspect that the standard coffee dose in oracle is higher (23g for me) to compensate for the lower tamper pressure.

    • Try somewhere in the 6-8 range grind setting. I have found that it takes a little while for the bean grind to filter through so give it a couple of shots on the new setting before adjusting further. I believe the coffee should come through at close to a consistent ’9’ pressure (not setting) I also found that making sure I fill the Group handle up to within a few mm of the top helps the taste a lot.

  • Still no single origins, disappointing. I miss the OG Sumatra :(

  • If there is Airjo rep seeing this thread, I want to know if I can request delay shipping since I am expecting some coffee from another store soon. Thanks.

    • +1

I requested delay delivery on my last order and that didn't happen…

there is a discount every month (or more frequently) so just wait until the next sale. sign up to their email and you will get notified (and, so far, no spamming or anything else)

  • Can anyone recommend a variety where its strong and has a nutty flavour? I'm no coffee connoisseur so its probably the wrong term but hopefully you will get what I mean…

    • +1

I like Enterprise… Dunno if that's strong enough for you but its my favourite from Airjo

    • +1

star gazer, but enterprise still good. Just not as strong in my opinion. But my taste might not quite be like yours, so take with grain of salt.

      But don't put salt in.

      • but salt brings out flavour ;)

        • Mine was lost 6 months ago. I contacted Aus Post and they investigated and confirmed lost.

  • Anyone tried the COLOMBIA blend, tossing between it and ENTERPRISE. Which would be less bitter and recommend? They both seem to be Medium Roast (7), similar Caffeine (7), with body 9 and 8.
