[QLD] Amazon Echo Plus 2nd Generation Smart Speaker $25.02 (Was $50.01) @ Bunnings (Mt Gravatt)

790

Saw these Amazon smart speakers marked down at the Mansfield Bunnings store. Still heaps left in stock.

These models have been superseded by the newer (and much more expensive) Amazon Echo Studio devices but they may still be a bargain for those that want a smart speaker with more volume loudness than the little Echo Dots.

Here is a recent review comparing this with other Echo devices

Here is an article on pairing these speakers together or with more recent models for stereo effect etc

Disclaimer: I don’t personally own this as I already have a few Echo Dots and Show 8 devices so I can’t give any personal advice on its performance.

  • I’d love to see like 8 of these placed in a grid. At this price.. you can

  • Can you link 2 and use them as stereo audio for a fire stick?

  • These are old technology

Still, good price for a smart speaker with a built in ZigBee hub

    • If you have a firesrick from recent deals add two of these for $50 and you will hugely improve your TV sound while this guy explains how it is old tech. I get there are other improvements but for a super low price you will outperform many soundbars.

I also think this shape looks better either side of a tv.

For anyone after one of these:

I have one of these alongside several of the echo dots.

Sound quality is so much better than the echo dots. There's actually separation between bass/mids/highs compared to the smaller and cheaper echo dots that just seem to mesh it all together. I use this as an alternative for music when I want to listen to music in an easy going way without the hassle of turning on my bigger setup. There's a decent amount of bass but don't expect full range bass from this thing. It cuts off at a decently low frequency that's enjoyable without getting fatiguing.

I'd say the mics on this are its best feature. This thing can pick up my voice from a different room while the echo dots will usually ignore me. This alone makes it incredibly useful to have in a smart home where you're always controlling lights, plugs and other devices. The voice pickup on this is just incredible.

The benefit of having a built-in zigbee hub also means you can buy cheap zigbee sensors (which last a long longer on battery than wifi ones) and for simple automations. This is great for those after simple automations without going ham on custom home automation setups.

As a side note, the number of cards on the shelf does not directly correlate to the amount of stock in the store.

    • Didn’t know about this. Sorry.

    • wow, they take great pride in there inventory and audits, lol.

      • Similar to Ring products. Bunnings arent allowed to show no stock and remove the cards. You have to find out theres no stock when you take the card to the service desk.

        • +1

that's crazy, they need to change that.
in my bunnings the ring products are in the back left of the store. so going all the way back there, then going all the way to the front, wait in line, then come to find out there is none available. i would go into American mode and go ballistic.

Will other stores honour this price?

    • Yes just show the tag it’s listed as a deleated item now in bunnings

      • I went to two Bunning before close today. None would pricematch as they had more than 10 in stock, irrespective of being deleted or discounted at another store.

        • I m going tomorrow I’ll get a few as there deleted I should be able to doo better on price usually it’s cut in 1/2 I’m in country vic

  • is this where i go to my store and they say its not on clearance?

  • +2

I called this particular store as I live nearby and got told they are all sold out.

As I just found out from Master Bates earlier, the number of cards on the shelves don’t necessarily correlate to how much they actually have in stock. A little misleading but now I know for future to ask them about actual stock levels before posting.

    • Yes. See comments above as well as the links in my description for instructions.

If I’m buying two is it cheap of me to do two seperate transactions to save 4c?

      • You are already in negative making that comment whe.n 4c is at stake, but they time you actually do the two transactions you will be down at least a dollar

3 year old tech and discontinued

    NO DEAL!!!!

  • Has anyone had any luck at other stores?

    • nothing on online search at bunnings site

      • It’s a deleted item it’s instore only not shown online

  • +1

Bunnings does a really good job of making it hard to buy stuff from them, other than by turning up and trying your luck.

    • Kmart and Big W started taking their clearance lines offline too (since about a year or so ago, I think).
I wondered if it might have been so that stores could set their own prices (my local Kmart is never as cheap as one I pass near work). Or perhaps it's something to do with thwarting price matching of clearance lines.

  • Definitely out of stock, refused to check other stores. They've all been out of stock for ages, only thing they had was the echo show 5.

  • No stock at Albury or Wodonga
