De'Longhi Icona 1.7l Kettle - Red KBO2001R $49 (Was $139) + Shipping / Pickup @ Harvey Norman

400

This seems to be a good kettle. I needed a kettle and saw this. I bought this yesterday and found that it has a good build quality. Only red colour one is at this price. The black one is at a higher price.

I've the grey version of this. Been using for 5 years and still working. Only downside is the water level indicator is very hard to see.

You can descale it, white vinegar works pretty well.
Boil about half kettle of water, then pour in some white vinegar, roughly 2:1, some might go 1:1. Stir it a bit then sit for a few minutes, empty the kettle, rinse with clean water. Should be all clear now.

Appreciate your help but you are misunderstanding my point. It was like this from day one. The water level is hard to see because of the design, not because of continued use or build up of scale or mist on glass

    Very stylish!

Looks like the one we had. It was very loud

Shouldn't have gotten the red one then…

  • Good reliable kettle. I have a blue one and it has been doing great for more than 4 years.

    • Mine has started leaking at the bottom of the spout - had it about 18 months :(

  • +1

Thinking of upgrading. We've had one of these for a number of years. Does the job ok but nothing special. Some rust around the rim. Difficult to take the lid off and put on. Is noisy. As someone mentioned above, the water level indicator is hard to read and when you are filling it up the indicator does not increase gradually, all of a sudden it will shoot up 1/2 a litre or more so it is hard to fill to the exact level you want.

Not sure how much better this is over a cheaper Kmart one.

cut half a lemon into a full kettle and boil. Rust should go away. Repeat if thick rust.

    • Yeah I was convinced mine had rust all down the bottom of it but it was just burnt calcium or whatever.

As Sephanite mentioned, try the lemon thing.
I used baking soda and vinegar for mine and it literally looks brand new after it.

      • Thanks but don't think that will work for mine unless I can immerse the whole kettle in boiling water some how. The rust is all around the outside edge of the kettle where the lid goes into it. The enamel coating has come off causing it to rust

anyone have a suggestion for a no plastic one?

Not sure why we still have kettles with lids that require both hands for removal in 2022.

Wish it could be operated with one hand as it matches my toaster.

    • I second that, however people are used to it.

Also, the RRP of $139 is an insane price for this or any basic kettle like this.

    • Lucky i read the comments - a button to open lid is a necessity

    • +1

Absolutely spot on. I don't understand why people buy these types of kettles. Should be one hand on the faucet and the other holding the kettle (thumb push to open the lid).

I also don't really understand the comments that state their kettle has been going strong for 4 or 5 years. Is this supposed to be impressive (serious question)? I have used two Bellini (Target) kettles (both purchased on special) for the past 14 years (the first one lasted about 12 years) and this is what I would expect in terms of longevity. For those interested, this is my kettle (though it seems to now be an updated design) https://www.target.com.au/p/bellini-1-7l-digital-base-kettle…

I'm not sure I see your point.
Folks can't really quote 14 years trouble fee if they've only had it 5.
They're just explaining it hasn't crapped itself in the time they've had it.

        • +1

Yes, I see your point (and fair enough) but the implication appears to be that 4 or 5 years service is somehow good, whereas I would see it as nothing less than expected.

The lid on this kettle is horrendous and quite slow to heat up.

  • +5

Lid isn’t overly easy to remove on these and our one is just about the noisiest kettle I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t buy it again.

    • +2

The lid almost deterred me from buying this model but I pushed in the little metal dimples and now it pops on and off quite easily.

  • hmm it has good ratings on HN

    • +1

Would you trust someone who spends their time rating purchases from HN?

  • Not the best kettle out there but they all get louder/nosier as time goes by, at this price this is a no brainer. Thanks OP.

    • 100% sure it's not about how old it is - it's not a cooling fan with bearings or other mechanical parts to wear out.

It's noisy because of cavitation and all the air bubbles "interacting" because of it. (Google it!).

Avoid at all costs! Will destroy your eardrums.

Not giving a penny to Harvey Norman/Gerry.

      Why?

      • +7

Took Jobkeeper leading to record profits
Campaigned for GST on low value imports
        etc etc

        • HN will die a slow death, just like Myers and other 'big box' department stores, see Best Buy in the USA.

Huge rent + no service cannot compete against online shopping, doesn't matter how much Gerry tries

Not entirely sure it's a good thing though.

  • I firmly believe there's no such thing as a quiet kettle. Many start off that way,but because the usual "silencing" method is simply a baffle it becomes redundant in a relatively short time. You can hear ours a block away….lol

  • mrs has the black version of this, not my style and is on the slower side to boil but keeps the noise to a minimum

  • I have a blue one. After 2-3 years it has a bug where it sometimes doesn't turn itself off. Maybe 1 time in 100 at most. I worry I can't walk away from it.

  • From the comments, the colour of this thing is strongly related to its noise level and longevity! /s

  • +1

Why would you buy this if for less, you can get a smart kettle liken Xiaomi or Kogan?

    • +1

      De'Longhi or Kogan…. hard choice.

  • I had this kettle for years, which I’ve just replaced with the Russell Hobbs Brooklyn as it started leaking. I liked the De’longhi until I saw how much better other ones are.

Now that I’ve got a new kettle, I realise how super noisy the De’longhi was, and not having to manually pull the lid off every time feels luxurious. It’s also has the same capacity, but is half the size on the bench.

  • i have one - great unit. cut a lemon and boil it once a month to descale

  • This is at HN peeps. Have we forgot?
