Logitech G27 @ Dick Smith's for $20 IN STORE (Pricing Error)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I'm not sure if they'll honour this in store, actually. I just placed an order for one to get shipped to me and soon after my order was processed they put the red X next to home delivery.

Give your store a ring before getting your hopes up, I guess. Good luck!

Quite clearly this deal is not going to be honoured. It's out of stock online and store pricing isn't in accordance with online pricing. So, no deal. Nothing personal against the poster by any means, but these outrageous "deals" have a particular cycle.

Insanely Low Price (everyone agrees) -> Order too many (crash website) -> Bring out the ACCC line (with a bunch of others to counter it) -> All orders cancelled, long refund process, no deal for anyone. -> Posts about how bad the company is (perhaps warranted in some cases like Dell's twice in two week mouse issue).

So yeah, Negative vote from me.

    • Yeah, fair enough. I wonder what they'll do with my online order now.

      • Presumably cancel and refund your money. Time to refund will vary - at least the price isn't going to break the family budget. :)

      • Maybe if you were the only one who managed to get an order through, they may honour it given the negative press lately?.. I got Prince of Persia delivered for $1 the other day, and minutes after my order, they took it offline as well… although, a bit more of a loss here I guess

        • +1

He's not the only one to order.

It makes me wonder whether this was an intentional error setup by some DSE employees just so they can buy the items for themselves.

      • -3

mate they should honour it, if not make a complain to the accc.
        http://www.gadgetreview.com/2009/07/dell-ordered-to-honor-15…
Dell had to honour their deal, i dont see why dicksmith shouldn't

        • +1

That was in another country, with different trading laws

    • It would appear I was wrong… Dick Smith did, in the end, honour this price.

  • I called the local one, they said 'buh bow' they are $349.30 and if I placed an order it would get cancelled as incorrect price.

    lol

  • +3

Or just get it from the Logitech shop for $245. Seriously though - does anyone have any faith left in DSE for deals after the last couple of fiascos?

  • Called Head office its another mistake!

  • $20……. that's like free.

  • They've now taken the whole site offline..

    • I like the message personally:

"We are currently undertaking maintenance on the Dick Smith website to improve your shopping experience. Please try visiting dicksmith.com.au again later."

      • +5

It should be "We are currently undertaking maintenance on the Dick Smith website to increase prices."

    • +2

Maybe they accidentally uploaded a new price list with a few decimal points missing?

      • +1

i believe u mean the decimal point in the wrong place. u can have only one decimal point in a price.

        • I mean on other items as well, hence the whole site being pulled

        • If decimal points were missing it would be too expensive no too cheap.

        • -1

          Good point (no pun intended!)

        • Or he could have meant decimal places in the wrong place ;)

Dick Smith should change the slogan from "Talk to the Techxperts" to

    "Talking to the Techxperts…"

  • +3

DSE is a bit of a mess lately.

  • LOL, dick smith are really showing their incompetency

Anyone know what other incorrectly priced items were available before the site went down?

  • They can't do anything right.

  • +3

An obvious pricing mistake does not maketh a bargain.

    • Obvious - please explain?

  • +6

wonder how many the staff bought?

  • They will not honour it in store! Even though i had it printed out from their site!
    DSE (deceptive sales everybody!)
LOL who am I kidding, I got a $100 Xbox last week, but I want the G27 for $20 too!

  • Spoke to the CS rep at the Brisbane one.

They were informed of the pricing error before 9am this morning.

  • Staff prices?

  • posted this on the other thread but went to two stores and neither would honour it, they both had it at different prices anyway. Besides they told me online pricing had nothing to do with store pricing, I mentioned that everything else was the same place and he told me to go "do what you have to do", even the ACCC.

  • went to two stores, one quoted $499 and the other one $350. pricing error according to the staff

  • +1

DickSmith Rep emailed in at 9:30am this morning verified that it's an online pricing error. They have rectified it on their website (by bringing down the entire site it seems). Move on — I don't see there is a need to go to the store to ask them to honour the price.

    • They must have problem removing/changing/editing the price? :p

  • Who knows how to ruin an awesome deal? Dick does.

  • Stop wasting your time, they aren't going to honour that. :P

  • I'm surprised the site is still down - offline for 2 hours now

  • I think those previous pricing errors like with Dell etc have set a pretty damn bad precedence…perhaps they should pay their corp lawyers a visit and make sure the T&C's are water tight.

  • This was on the deals feed and removed as a "Duplicate" which meant that I wasted time looking for an original post. Searching for G27 did not bring up this forum thread for some reason. Found it by chance seeking threads on it. Surely "Pricing Error" would be a better closure than "Duplicate" in this instance?

BTW there were 3 G27 wheels in the North Sydney store this morning in the demo room at the back of the store.

Edit: is coming up in search now. maybe I missed it.

    • +1

This is the original posted deal, now modified to show a pricing error.

There was another deal (67703) that was removed as a duplicate around the same time this was moved to the forums.

      • I rang up and the g27 was $329.

      • +1

Thanks for the explanation. Timing is everything.

    • no you didn't oxbargain mods messing around with this thread. i ponted out this out earlier but moocher the mod deleted the posts because mods can do what they like.

Maybe this thread is running in 2 places now? cant be bothered looking

  • +2

WOW there is a god…let us know if anyone snags one! :-)

    • @logitech — I don't think DickSmith is willing to sell the item at 1/15 of the price, unless you guys are giving them some "special" deal :)

I'm too surprised that DickSmith's website is still showing "currently undertaking maintenance". Surely they aren't doing it at the middle of the day, are they?!

      • Round 3 of the sale being uploaded or something =P.

Yeah, totally no dice in stores at that price. Staff were apparently informed before opening time of the error as when I went up with the box the CS rep was able to say straight away that it was not 20 dollars.

      • Ahh yeah, hence our comment that at that price God would need to intervene with some divine intervention ;-)

        • Oh mighty Logitech Gods, please intervene and bless thou wit thy holy G27. send forth commandments to thy lowliest of servants; smith of dick to dispatch the AAE angels in their high vis shirts and short shorts with thy peripheral…

          In short, pretty please?

        • +1

and short shorts with thy peripheral

What are you talking about here?

      • @scotty - I wouldn't say that this deal is out of the question/imagination though considering the past 1-2 weeks worth of sale and the discounts that we are currently seeing. consoles were selling way below cost, and games/peripherals/accessories were often discounted by as much as 95%. evidently this g27 wheel is classified as a peripheral.
Alot of games that were on sale at big discounts ($1-$2 each which retailed from anywhere between $50-$80) were old games. The g27 wheel was released in 2009.

There is definitely strong argument that this could infact be a sale price and not a pricing error.

furthermore, for those whose order status says 'backorder and will ship when stock arrives', I would say that this could be DSE's admission that they are going to fullfill the order (provided they can get stock in, however I'm sure they can considering this wheel is still under production). I would find it hard for any reasonable person to see it any other way.

        • If it is really realistic, why did it get +22 votes when it was sold at $208 yesterday, and got +180 votes when it was sold at $139 two weeks ago?

I think people on OzBargain just need to be sensible. Half price on a hardware is surely a good bargain. 1/15 price on a piece of hardware would most likely cause the Pricing Error alarm bell ringing for most long term OzBargainers. If people know that it's likely caused by price error, why then all the demand that they should honour their mistake? Have we sank so low to scam the retailers?

I know DSE has got their own problem regarding to their game on sale. However let's just focus on their Logitech G27 price error here.

      • what I was trying to point out is that the g27 price at $20 during a gaming sale (which for all intesive purposes, the pricing for alot of items were simply rediculous) could be seen as not out of the imagination.

Now if this rediculous gaming sale did not happen, then sure, by all means alarm bells would be ringing, however you gotta take this g27 (96%) discount within the contexts of the current sale and the reducitons in price seen with other peripherals/accesories/games/consoles.

Its not about scamming a retailer. If this is infact a pricing error, then so be it. I just question whether it was or not.

        • Logitech G27 for $137 was right in the context of their "ridiculous game clearance sale". If at $137 that's ridiculous, how would you describe the same item at $20? Insane?

Anyway. You have your right to be optimistic. I am just trying to ask people here to be realistic.

      • looks like my order of 2xG27's will be fulfilled. woohoo

    • I ordered one online at around 8:15 this morning. Got an email from DSE confirming payment + CC was debited.

Still havent received an email from DSE saying that they are not honouring the price.

      Fingers crossed I receive it.

      • Yeah my card was debited ~$30 too, though the payment is still pending. We're in this together :)

        • Wished someone told me earlier…

        • +1

Don't like your chances though, it's not the first time DSE have turn around and say it's either out of stock and/or pricing error. To make the matter worse, if DSE's already sent an email to Scotty advising him it's a pricing error then they prolly picked this all up and void the orders.

They've done it that time when they had a pricing error re Windows 7 upgrade, I don't see why they won't do the same thing again.

    • Yep just make sure you check your local store/s for availability etc some of these might be one off's etc - so best to check first, could be display models etc as their discount applies to whole categories so might pick up some odd ones. We've taken them out of the list to make things a bit easier.

  • Here if you want to go in store?

courtesy of someone from whirlpool, kudos to them (sorry forgot the handle) for actually managing to pick 2 up @ this price.

maybe this will increase someone's chances of a price match?

    • DSE price match wwnt do it, maybe EB or GG or HN?

      • hehe i havent tried myself coz my order online has been "Backordered"
but definitely not holding my breath even though, if DS were to honor this deal it would create a lot more goodwill i think? (especially from the big sale stuff ups?)

    • Can you post the link to whirlpool?

      • i mean to the WP thread

    • I've lost the will to live…

  • my gosh all this over a gaming wheel, i was wondering what this item was.

    so did anyone get it?

    • A $200 gaming wheel.

  • hilarious stuff - especially here -wondering how stores were notified pre 9.00 am aest according to this thread although that assertion was posted long after.
Anyone who got their order in online should post their order confirmation time received so as to make apparent that DSE were taking orders after that time online and had plenty of time to correct the so called error earlier.

There's some posters round here that are not being straight about what went down/ been going down at DSE.

    • Are you saying there are some DSE employees among us?

      • There is several. me not being one of them

      • Man there coming out of the woodwork here namecalling and abusing in public. This thread is not the original - theres also a reason why pricing error was added much later - and why I'm getting smeared big time. Good luck to all using this shopping site.

  • To many Dicks around here

  • DSE has just emailed me an invoice
Looks like they're honouring the deal for me!

Has anyone else received an invoice for their $20 G27?

Dick Smith has restored my faith in them! :) :D

    Order has updated as dispatched

    • Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    • I called them as my order has been sitting at 'In Progress' for the past 2 days.

G27's are on back order and they will be getting in more stock over the next week.

Looks like they are honouring the deal.

  • They are honoring the deal!
My order was backorder this morning.
After lunch, received Tax invoice out of nowhere.
Checked Status and it says Dispatched by StarTrack.

    Ordered: 12-04-2012 8:30AM
    Quantity: 2

Email sent by DSE, mind you this is a massive breach of privacy as everyone who purchased the G27 was included in the email.

      Dear valued customer,

Yesterday morning our website experienced a pricing error which registered the price of a few products incorrectly. Your order was impacted by this pricing error.

Our Terms & Conditions ; agreed to at the time of purchase, provide us with the right to cancel orders impacted by a pricing error.

As a gesture of our good will we be proceeding to supply you with your order. We trust you will enjoy your purchase and hope your continue to visit dicksmith.com.au for the latest deals and advice.

      Kind regards,

      • Yeah, I just got that. Two minutes later they said they wanted to recall the email?

        • Thats because they put everyone's email in the CC field not BCC..

          Thats another issue for them.

But happy we are getting our product, since they totally bent me over on their last clearance sale.

        • Just when I was about to praise dicksmith for being so generous for honoring the deal they had to mess it up by sending out the email addresses of about 100 people who got the deal.

Oh well… I now probably know about 100 fellow ozbargainers email address lol

      • Lol, yes I got that recall as well.

Just counted about 125 emails (including 5 dicksmith.com.au and 1 woolworths.com.au email addresses)

I'll make a conservative estimate on what this pricing error would have cost Dick Smith:
        125 * $160 (cost price for DSE?) = $20000
        125 * $30 (wheel + delivery) = $3750

So at minimum this pricing error would have cost DSE: 20000-3750 = $16250

edit: found the whirlpool thread (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1516914&p…)

        • There was probably a lot of lower cost items incorrectly priced too so it might not have been that bad.
