GloBird Gas Price Increases by over 10%

So just got an email about yearly price increases, which happens sure, but the difference between current estimated charges and new estimated charges is 11.5% more, this seems like a massive increase for a yearly increase. But also i haven't been responsible for this bill before, and am not up to date with what's going on in the gas industry, is this kind of price rise normal?

Same email, just referred a couple of users on here as well.

Seems to be the game, cheap to get you in, then slug you with the increase that seems to be the norm.

Always an excuse to lift them, never an excuse to lower them.

  • Go to another provider and watch them grovel to get you back with better rates after you initiate the switch

  • Standard lazy tax. Time to move or at least threaten to. Sometimes you have to play the game.

  • I switched to Alinta, despite their shitty service, they were cheaper than Globird's revised rates

    • Wait what's so shitty about Alinta? I just joined them lmao

Customer service has NFI what is going on, last few times I've used them they basically followed their flowchart on the phone without actually listening to what the issue was. I ended up switching to Tango to fix an issue in five minutes that Alinta had taken five days and multiple phone calls with no resolution…

I also asked if they'd planned to raise/already have raised their price like Globird, and if so - when - and they responsed with a price sheet - again, missing the point completely.

Despite that, willing to switch to them (since it's a supplier swap as opposed to connection-related issue like my previous experience) to save money in the mean time, and if support gets intolerable or they raise their prices I can always switch again :)

        • Does Alinta have good rates? I need to find a gas company to join

  • In before some brofessor says it's a supply chain problem.

It's no way it can be brrrrr.

    • They need more people to fart out gas. Hence, supply problem.

  • After 6 months with them my electricity usage tarrif went up by 30%

  • I go the same email I intend to switch as well.

  • lazy tax, you wont leave

    • Is that a challenge?

      • well have you left yet??

      • Did you leave mate?

  • Also similar jump with AGL
I jumped on the Vic Energy Compare site and strangely AGL was coming up almost cheapest. So have just left it alone.

Maybe its an increase everyone is having

I just moved electricity away from AGL though, to Reamped

  • Got the same email, my current prices are going up from .020 to .025c

So maths tell me it’s 25% increase. Big steep, so I’ll shop around after the price rise kicks in.

Some people who shop around now, might not be aware you are comparing 1 Feb prices to today pricing. So it’s more apples to apples to compare prices after 1 Feb, and yes it might mean a month of yuk prices.

    • Yes was thinking the same, shop around in Feb, we hardly use gas in summer anyway so it's no big deal to pay a little bit more short term, as long as I'm on the cheapest by winter for our heating.

  • Got the email and my estimate annual charge went up a whopping 50%!

Using the govt energy compare website there is a defect where one of the most expensive providers (covau) is recommended as the cheapest.

After doing some manual calcs I think Alinta will be the next cheapest
