Cant find this on the TGA website… anyone know if these are worth it?

    EDIT Found

    • +3

Since it is TGA approved as Very High Sensitivity, it is probably a need rather than a worth…

By the end of the year, OZB will be an archive on which store was on the wrong side of history with this price gouging on RATs.

      • I was told by a pharmacist it's illegal to have more than a 20% markup, at least in SA

    • This is also one that had data proving efficacy in detecting Omicron.

  • Cant seem to find these on the approved list from TGA?

    • +4

it is approved, scroll to next page

      • ahh there is more then one page! thank you!

    • +5

If you search for Abbott it should come up.. I am pretty sure that is the one Very high sensitivity

    • +1

      Search Abbott

      Very high sensitivity

Also the same RAT Kits that Amazon sells

  • +1

    It's on the second page.

    Very high sensitivity. Seems good

  • +1

TGA approved, listed as "Very high sensitivity"

    • +13

The RATs are ribbed for your pleasure.

  • +1

    Delivery long for these?

  • +13

This is crazy pricing, i bought the same 20 pack for 90$ from Changi airport

    • -2

Yes but you can't use 90$ in Australia

    • -1

It's almost like things cost different prices in different countries!

      • +2

It's almost like government policy influences how much things cost!

  • +5

Crazy price for this m.. bought at $100 earlier

    • +1

      Same site?

      • +2

        Does it matter?

        • Yes, price protection only works on the same store

          • @R3XNebular: Latitude insurance won't consider this as eligible as it will be deemed as a consumable

          • @R3XNebular: No, price protection works can be from a different store and consumables aren’t covered.

    • Link… or it never happened.

      • -2

It’s the 21st, sorry mate but your a bit late to the party ;)

  • +39

Very expensive - thanks to Morrison government.

    • -2

no.. sounds like the daigous cashing. err sorry.. scalping again.

    • +1

I was in Singapore over the Christmas break and this exact product is available there for less than half the price. I picked up a 4 pack to bring back with me but wish I'd grabbed a 20 pack now.

  • +1

Costco deal was better - But thanks OP anyways.

  • +2

got some. Thanks OP. These are made in Germany according to TGA site

    • Depends mine were made in Korea

    • yeah, on arrival mine has made in korea on them

  • +2

Thanks OP. Hard to find any here in WA and rather get a big batch I can share with my family if needed

    • +2

      Same here, thanks OP.

    • +8

You found them cheaper elsewhere? Do share.

    • +4

      Wut

  • Just go to a testing centre and get tested for free…. It will be quicker than waiting on deliveries of online orders

    • +8

Laughable. I know people who have waited 7+ days only to be told their test sample was not viable and to go line up for 5 hours again.

      • +2

You can go to rapid antigen testing sites if you are in Victoria

        • I thought there were just pcr test sites? got a link?

        • +1

Yes… this is what i meant. Many testing sites now offer rapid antigen tests. They decide whether to give you a RAT or PCR. Its a matter of finding out what is available near you.

        • Same in Queensland now too. Hospitals handing out RATs free or on site RA testing in addition to PCR testing.

      • -5

What's laughable is people stupid enough to buy these expensive tests when 1. Their outcomes are irrelevant and 2. They're not even reliable.

Just a conga line of suckers overpaying or waiting in lines.

They're only doing it because of the media circus around covid. Imagine we did this for the flu.

        • +2

What's laughable is your misinformation. 1. RAT are fast replacing PCR tests. 2. These test if (high sensitivity) are extremely accurate 95-98% accurate is pretty good odds if you ask me.

          • @Sean8802: Accuracy although important isn't as important as sensitivity. No use having something so accurate when it can't even detect the virus.
Luckily this one is the cream of the crop. Both great sensitivity and great accuracy

            • @maverickjohn: @maverickjohn For sure, having a high sensitivity test is the most important. I would hope that most people know to check this when acquiring a RAT. But it's doubtful

        • If it means avoiding spending hours waiting in-line at a public testing facility it's money well spent. Plus due to the testing backlog at the moment, some samples aren't being tested soon enough, requiring people to come back and do it all again.

      • I got PCR tested over 9 days ago and still no result…
Didn't know they were still that backed up.
Even if it returns a positive result it is only good as historical data as I'm now outside the infectious period with no symptoms…
Having a RAT on hand would certainly help, though they are impossible to find in shops, at least in my area…

    • +1

I got tested here in NSW….took 17 days for results…yeah not gonna do that again. Plus day cares offices etc need to see before entering…also travel?

Meh it's a small cost to have some flexibility. My time is worth more. Not standing in line for over an hour to be told the same thing I can do at home in a few minutes

      • +2

        I test yesterday 11am
        Get result 12 pm today
        Same NSW
Like 10min wait to do the test….

        Btw True story

    • I can visit my mothers nursing home for free tests.

  • +2

Surely these will plummet in price in the coming weeks? Seen a lot of websites claiming restocking happening in late Jan/early Feb.

    • +1

Was thinking same. By time it arrives the stock will be plentiful again.

      • +2

Stock has already been arriving. I work at Melbourne airport and see multiple dedicated international freight aircraft arrive each day full of RAT's. Literally an empty aircraft, no passengers. A large box of RAT's on each seat

        • Hopefully same for Brisbane…

  • +1

The maximum you may purchase is 10.

No deal, that's not enough to get through the year!

  • someone is making a absolute mint off these things and its not me… sadness

  • 788 in stock a few minutes ago. Now 102.

  • The rate this is going need one a week per person in the house. Thanks Op

  • +1

The late bird gets the worm I guess

    • Haha

  • copped some. no guarantees stock will last when more arrives, and definitely claiming on tax so price doesn't hurt that much

  • OOS. “Product that you are trying to add is not available” despite showing 788 in stock on product page.

  • out of stock already…

  • Its gone eventhough showing 200 ish stocks

  • Not available… also why is there so many people up at this random time. Do yalls hate sleep or like me, also have kids who hate sleep ?

    • +2

Nah, just checking my phone while taking a leak at 3.30 in the morning. Just don't want to miss a good bargain. 😏

    • +2

Some of us live in WA and are three hours behind ;)

  • +2

    Ps5 or 60 rats?

    • +3

      PS5.

Stay home, avoid people and you won't need the RATs

  • +2

A relative who is a doctor (endocrinologist) got some of these through her medical supplier. When I asked her how reliable they were, she said these Abbott Panbio ones what the doctors use so should be the most reliable. Obv that would be based on her particular sample of doctor friends, but for whatever it's worth.

We have been using them and all of us in the home who tested positive all feel like rubbish, and one of the kids has tested negative on three different tests, so at least there's some indicator they're legit.

    • I noticed the one shown has Chinese writing on the box, every other website don’t though. The original ones are made in Germany though, these may be incorrect ones ?

    • When I checked with suppliers last week they were selling these ones to healthcare professionals for $6 a test. I'm sure that's increased now.

  • +3

If you are symptomatic, you can pop around to your closest testing clinic to pick up a free RAT test

    • +3

Yeah don’t understand why people pay money for these. Seems to be a new hobby to test home!

    • +1

Which state ? Govt ran testing or private pathology?

  • Potentially these are not the original tests cause of the Chinese writing ??? Can someone confirm. If you have a look on google and YouTube, the panbio box is not meant to have Chinese writing but all in English

    • +2

I can confirm that this is the official export packaging which Abbott uses. These test kits are originally manufactured in India, and due to the nature of the export packaging, it displays instructions in multiple languages. I'm a bit surprised at the massive price difference across geographies though… I can see Amazon India selling these for INR 4200 (about $80). So much for price regulations.

      • Things costing different prices in other countries is common not uncommon.

HINT: it is to do with wage structures.

        • I understand that. However, my concern was with the fact that a product meant "for sale in India", was being sold through a channel in Australia at a higher-than-usual-parity-conversion price. The product that I received clearly mentioned it was meant for sale in India only. Not sure about other folks' experiences.

      • Did you care to read what the country of Origin was for the ones sold on Amazon India ?
        They are made in Korea

        Here you go - https://ibb.co/DWL6s0w

        • +1

Not all of them I believe. I remember having a similar debate with a mate earlier this month. Apparently there are two varieties, one of them imported from S.Korea, and the other "made and marketed" in India. Both are meant for sale in India only, as it states on the package. I'm surprised that these were the same ones - the packaging clearly states that they're "for sale in India only" (either that, or I was lucky enough to get that one in my order). That is why I was noting the price difference. If it's meant for sale in India only, and is being sold in Australia through any channel, then it is probably not an official import (although still probably is the same product).

Rant over, none of this matters :)
