Where is the poll…yes or no ???

      Is this a JOKE ?????
      For me its NO

      • +2

Is the NO for the JOKE or NO for the car?
        We need another poll

      • Maybe is a typo. Got a extra zero…..

  • +6

    Bargain

  • +7

Love how it's on moveable wheels and the photos are in the dark garage…Firm as the high quality photos?

22 years old… Should have been put out to the long pasture by now or be priced for the back packers to drive away seeing as it's already had it's 21st birthday party.

How does the price it compare to other Hilux Twin Cab 4X4 with 76,000ks?

  • +21

    Bargain… that’s about 1/2 market value.

Shocked that the ad didn’t have the usual dimwit comment of “nO oFFeRz. i KnOw wHaT i HaVe”

100% speedo has been replaced. No one keeps that much shit in their car for a vehicle that has averaged 3,600km/year.

    • Unused car in garage = "additional" storage space

      • +3

Save that that's not "storage", it's use. The steam clean on the "immaculate" engine bay missed quite a few spots on the air intake system, but most of all the foot pedals, which would demonstrate not only the low mileage, but how hard it did the mileage aren't shown.

    • +2

to give them an extreme benefit of the doubt, it's possible… my '98 Supra has only 77k on the clock without any odometer swapping monkey business, I've had it since '02 and it was never a daily - for the last 10 years I've done about 4km a year, 1k down to the mechanics for pink slip, 1k home, maybe a 2 drive during. It's basically a gigantic ornament.

      • +1

        Why not drive it?

        • it's a hassle to actually take out without getting pulled over even while driving sensibly. There is nothing to defect it for, but the style of car evokes a stereotype that they want to pull over and be difficult with. Too many exchanges that go "hi, you've been selected for a random breath test, please pop the bonnet" and then not even bothering with a breathalyser.

          • @quick-dry: I drove a heavily modified Evo IX (~300kw atw) for 10 years with no issues, it had no cats and ran on E85 so you could smell it from way back. I've been pulled over numerous times, lost my license twice and was never asked to pop my bonnet. If they ever did, I'd just deal with it but I had an amazing 10 years of driving. Key thing is probably that I was never a (profanity) to them.

But I did avoid driving through defect hotspots like La Perouse.

            • -2

              @[Deactivated]:

              lost my license twice

Sounds excessive for just being pulled over.

              • @serpserpserp: Where does it say I lost my license for just being pulled over?

    • +3

I just assumed the car has done 1,076,000km given its 22 y.o….

  • I’d only pay max $50k

    • 22 year old car

      No more than $5,000

      • So a Mazda RX7 is only worth $5000? Silly argument. But in context, for this vehicle, it's an absolute joke of a price.

        • +3

The comment is clearly in relation to this Hilux though.

  • +16

    Tell him he’s dreamin

Quicksilver sticker does add at least 5k value tho so idk

  • +1

Second to last photo, open driver's door - how many bits and pieces of carpet have been put in and under the seat?

For the asking price, must be Axminster.

  • +1

the problem will be that this age of car is now into the 'classics' and low mileage non smashed utes that have been given no work to do are rare

    dont kid yourself

there's heaps of boomers out there that want a manual 4x4 ute like this that they couldnt afford back in the day and now they can

    • Although not a popular opinion on a bargain site, it's a fact in real life.

He won't get $55k for it. But it would be worth North of $30k realistically and only getting higher in price as it reaches 25 years old for club plates registration.

  • +1
    • +9

Typo indeed, it should be $550,000

      • +2

        55000cents , not 55000$

    • Maybe not, unless the price and description both have the same typo.

  • +2

You can get a new one for extra 10K I don't get it?

    • +6

Get outta here with your logic

      • wdym, Are they appreciating assets?

  • +3
    • +2

Wants V8 manual money for a V6 auto lol

      • +2

1HD-FTE is actually the most sought after motor for cruisers

        • Agree! 12HT, 1HD-FT & E are legendary, I understand the appeal

    • "Vehicle registration expires in Jan 2020"

      Great selling feature!

    • It does have power door mirrors

  • +3

22 years? That 76,000kms could be on the second time around for the odometer!

    • At least the photo's are allot better and not in a dark garage.

  • +2

Not even a V6 or diesel.

    • Was expecting TRD but they are newer than 2000
      .

  • +3

    bUt cOViD TaX!!!

  • +6

You can ask whatever you want, selling it is a different story!

  • +48

You guys are new at this arent you? His missus told him to sell it… he said no… she said car or I leave…
So hes told her he has put it up forsale.

    she is happy
he is happy as it will never sell.

    win/win

    • +7

I think this is closest to the truth. Looking at the quality of the photos and the state of the interior, he is not serious about selling it. Anyone seriously trying to sell a car for that much above market value would get it detailed and get some high quality photos in a better location that in the garage on moveable wheels.

    • +3

he said no… she said car or I leave…

Honestly, how many people here would stay with a partner who demanded this?

Bugger me, her passionfruit sponge recipe must be a killer.

    • +1

That's easy, keep the car let her leave. Win/win

      • +1

The lawyer will want 27.5k for her half though

    • He knows what he's got

  • +3

Real value is probably around 25-30k. There would be a lot of age related wear within the whole vehicle, but for the most part it will hold up over time (with things fixed here and there) and be much more reliable than a modern Hilux. Wouldn't be too hard to get 500k kms out of it

    • +3

      taliban spec

      this is for the collector

in the US its the same thing but its for a black super cab model for obvious reasons

      https://www.whichcar.com.au/car-news/back-to-the-future-pick…

      • +11

Hilux collector? lol, I've heard of everything now.

        • +5

the hilux is one of the best known trucks in the world

not even getting into the us sport truck thing

would it surprise you to know that trucks are raced here and in the us?

just because i dont care for it doesnt mean that it doesnt exist

      • The Back to the Future Xtra cab Sr5 is 37 years old. It is also fuel injected, which locally delivered variants aren't. Not sure how it's collectibility is meant to relate to the truck in the OP.

    • +2

I drive a 1995 dual cab Hilux. It's got ~380,000 on the clock and isn't showing any signs of giving up the ghost just yet. They're incredibly reliable vehicles.

Everyone gives me crap for it, but I can't justify a new car just to sit in the sun at the train station 4 days a week and then fill it with crap in the tray on weekends for a dump run or pick up some new furniture for the house etc.

      • +1

Same here, I actually have the POV workmate dual cab 4x4 version of the listed car that's on about 210k KMs. It got not creature comforts or safety features, but perfect for the Bunnings / tip run. Super easy to service too. I'll probably get something safer soon, but will keep it until it falls apart!

    • 3RZ is a very reliable engine, so long as you manually adjust the valves every 100k it's very easy to get 500k km out of these, the w56 gearbox on the other hand…..

      • Baby the thing and change fluid way ahead of a ridiculous service spec of 90k or 45k severe usage. I'm talking about the transmission here

There are vehicles running around that people think are on their last legs (mechanics might assume the same and tell you likewise). Change the fluid and filter (if it has an easy access replaceable type filter), throw in a bottle of Lucas transmission fix as per directions and pray. Anecdotally I've had cars running as close to new doing this in everything I've ever bothered with. I used to think 40k trans fluid changes were overkill, now I'm starting to think fluid is cheap enough and 20-25k changes should be the norm if you want to keep things running nicely for as long as possible. Inspected fluid at 40k (out of interest) and sent away for analysis… Yeah there's no way I'm leaving things to even 40k changes anymore.

  • +1

Anyone can advertise a car at any price on carsales. Just fishing. Ignore money wasters.

  • +1

I say go for it. Yolo.

  • -1

"Price is $55,000 Firm as this vehicle is becoming rare and especially in this condition."

    Thats just the sellers opinion.

+1 to the above comment about "hilux collector". I'd just waste the sellers time for being so arrogant

  • +1

If you have to ask i think you know the answer

  • +5

i dont see this as anything different to the guy who wants $60k for a VL turbo calais manual with 50,000…. or a Monaro CV8 manual for $75,000…

    there's enthusiasts for many things

and i wonder about the temperment of people who want to "waste peoples' time" for being so 'arrogant'

over a carsales ad you dont like… lul wut

    • +1

because it's akin to being a career used car salesman.

    • I worked at a place where a guy would spend his whole lunch break and other breaks just calling people that had ad's in Autotrader (or whatever the paper book printed weekly was that you could buy for used cars pre-carsales online being as huge as it is) and lowballing them and giving them sh!t about their cars, saying it's overpriced, not worth that much or just going in with stupid offers. $10k car, give you $1200 etc.
I guess if you get enough of those you'd be upset and list it in the ad!

  • +1

You're asking in the wrong place mate, most people on this site spend the bare minimum on even the necessities.

With that being said, I personally don't think it's worth the asking price, but someone out there might.

  • +4

We need a poll: how many people have contacted him saying they're currently locked out of his state, but are happy to pay his asking price or even more via Paypal and will have their courier agent pick it up?

  • Seems well over priced compared to prices for similar vehicles on Carsales.

    E.G. 2012 model similar klms $40k - https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2012-toyota-hilux-s…

    2014 - $42K - https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2014-toyota-hilux-s…

    2010 - $45k - https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2010-toyota-hilux-s…

    • yeah but these are like… modern with airbags and electronics

a 2000 is like pre airbags abs?

those are all nice looking rigs tbh… and all low km and if you really want a hilux rig

i see a heap of utes suvs vans with like 300,000km and they want like almost new car prices so its refreshing to see 'just' 80,000

      • +1

Driver and passenger airbags were optional in that model, in the (very poor) photos you can see the drivers side has been optioned.

Airbags have been an option in aussie cars since somewhere around 93'-95' (Falcon & Commodore) and it was standard kit on the the last of the Hyundai Excels (or similar budget entry level cars of the time) and the replacement which was the Accent (99/00) so it's not that uncommon of a feature even on entry level cars.

ABS has been around forever, again with crap photos cant see the ABS controller in the engine bay, maybe it doesn't have it, it wasn't mandatory for ABS and ESC to be fitted to new cars sold in Australia until 03' but plenty of Euro\Scando cars have had ABS since the mid or late 80's.

I'd rather that older 99' build SR5 out of Japan over its replacement that came from Thailand in the years following.
It's also the previous shapes (5th Gen) that is usually more appealing and where there is demand, along with the JDM import versions as they had so many extra cool accessories and features on them which we never got in Australia.

You can't straight compare these 2010-2014 Hilux's directly with the one for sale, that's why people can't get their heads around the prices many fetch.
That said I bet the same people complaining about the pricing complain about pricing of everything they see!

  • +2

Fishing expedition in a rising car market. He is not serious but if some fool comes along he would sell.

  • +1

NO… 22 years… ALL rubbers, ALL seals, and other issues would be present.
Fan belt, water pump aircon, wipers, the list of endless repairs goes on and on.

Slap yourself… stop even entertaining the thought.

    • +4

You reckon the wipers would need replacing after 22 years? Geez, they don’t make them like they used to anymore…

      • Luckily the tyres won't need replacing

  • +4

Would have paid for the Carsales ad, that’s money down the toilet.

  • +1

There’s one in Carsales for $45000 with 253000km on the clock; and another for $50000 with 448000km on the clock. I wouldn’t touch any of them.

  • +1

It has front and rear power windows.

  • +4

The previous model is more sought after as it has live axles front and rear, this guy just thinks he's onto something because it's made in Japan. Someone should call him and ask if it's turbo diesel and then hang up after he says petrol.

  • +3

    Just bought 5. Thanks OP

  • +2

Seems smoking crack before you post a ad on carsales is the norm

  • +1

Opportunistic person on ice, best describes the seller.

Then again, it's the same argument I use for latest gen gaming console scalpers. If it wasn't for people willing to pay that prices, well then idiots like this wouldn't be asking for so much $$.

  • +1

No, that's ridiculous, a brand new Ranger is cheaper

  • +3

Confucius say "just because old, does not a classic make"

  • "Vehicle has rarely been used"

    "76,000 km"

Seems like it's been used a fair bit to me.

Absolutely ridiculous price, they're just trying to find some idiot that thinks it's a collectors item - they make a point to say it's one of the last japanese made ones.

  • -1

Has to be a typo. No one is that delusional.

  • LOL!

  • I'd only pay $54,999.95

  • Last of the v8 interceptors.

  • Was just in a wreck that wrote off a 2020 mine spec Prado and a 2020 hilux. With the prices of cars these days though…maybe not a write off anymore. Prado did roll however.

  • +3

All depends on whether or not the seller will liaise with my agent and freight company … as I'm currently on an oil rig and can't collect the vehicle personally.

  • Totally wrong forum to be discussing this on, the pinnacle of motoring for most here is a second hand Camry so they can hang out in the right hand lane and cause accidents on the road, or a Tesla I guess …

COVID has pushed up used prices, it is in the highly desirable area for that kind of vehicle to many, its clean and appears well looked after and with low kms is a good example.
I've seem crazier things, 200 series LCs that are 4-5 years old being sold for what they paid for it brand new with 50-100k kms on them.
Its unlikely he's in a hurry to sell and just trying to take advantage of the current used car market.

If that freaks you out, look at the USA for prices of used 4x4's and trucks. Its out of control over there also, especially as you cant even buy new with wait times due to shortages.

    • +1

yep. this place is provincial as fuc and most people cant see outside of their own interests and limited world view

there are people out there that really love old 4x4s… and yeah this low comp. N/A petrol manual thing is low tech.

hell i work with a mob with seem to worship Hiluxes and Prados and ANYTHING Toyota inc. FJs and shit… as long as its ladder frame

      monocoques are for dicks apparently
