  • Ok 3-32VDC input so can have use in a car, maybe dual battery setup,.. though can this handle one crank amperage, output is 40 Amps at 240 VAC not sure what that would equate too amperage for 12VDC, anybody would take a guess?

these wont switch DC loads - only AC loads.

Can't be used to switch 12v, minimum voltage is 48v RMS (approx. 68v DC) for the load.
They will work on DC but only high voltage DC.

Hard to tell without datasheet, but Z in D24Z40-L may mean zero crossing, so would not work for DC load.

Agreed, just avoid this if trying to switch DC.

      • Is that cause these are Solid State Relays different to the way traditional relays work (magnetic coil triggering the switch),.

I presumed a switch is a switch but glad to know about Solid State Relays 👍 anyway $25 postage is a killer 👎

        • There are ones that do switch DC, just not this one.

    • As mentioned below, most likely it would not work for DC (if it uses thyristors it would switch off only when the load current crosses 0).

But even for AC at 12V, it can only be used up to 40A.

  • For safety these must be wired by electrician .

    • For 240 AC setup (for home etc), in a car only 12 VDC so ok, right?

      • It's essentially a switch that can manage 240vac load. It should be fine for low voltage DC applications. Grab a data sheet and review for additional information.

      • Yes if you are only using 12 VDC in car it is perfectly safe and don't require a electrician .

  • Are these genuine current ratings?

    • Probably, mains SSRs are generally rated around this mark. They're slow to switch and come with a few annoying edgecases, it's not like you're buying a 400V 40A FET or IGBT.

    What an obscure bargain!

What a rip for delivery, this will cost no more than the smallest auspost parcel.

Shipping doesn't change when I add an 18RU server rack so I think it's just a flat rate.

  • Maybe for the electricbrewery.com

    $25 for shipping? No.

  • Price isn't a bargain if you can wait for delivery from China. 40A AC SSRs sell for US$10.61 here (about AU$15), with free delivery if your order comes to more than US$20:

Or you can buy from Element14 for about $27 (although overseas stock for 5-7WD delivery), but shipping is cheaper at $16.50:

Don't forget that under many circumstances these need a heatsink.

People use these an then wonder why they fail… heatsink!

Also they need to be de-rated for inductive loads.
