Catch gift card has more discount than Amazon.

  • Has been better priced before, not much, but a tad: $485

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Switch%20oled%20typ…

  • +2

$499 isn't great. Buy elsewhere using gift cards and price match. Mine was $443.10 at release through TGG+latitudepay and that shouldn't be too hard to hit that price with 10% off gift cards or 15% catch gift cards etc being common enough

    • +7

It has nothing to do with the controls of a garbage truck

    • -4

100 million+ fools buying this console

      • I joined the fools because I think discounts in the eshop is worth the price of having the console :)
Especially double stacking to 24% off .

        • All time favourite console for me!!

        • -1

Pardon my ignorance bit I don't usually see the Switch first party games like Breath of the Wild ever discounted in the eshop…
And multi-plats are a lot cheaper on Xbox and PlayStation

          • @[Deactivated]: You can't get these first-party games on other platforms. Just like you can't get some of the games on the switch. Pros and cons. Thus, if you want to play Nintendo first-party games, you would need to have a Nintendo device. My only complaint is that once Nintendo decides to cease printing a certain game, you have to pay a very hefty price to own a physical copy/to play (not a digital fan) due to price gauging.

            • -1

@koala123: My point is it doesn't matter how discounted the Switch hardware gets it's the software they sting you a premium price on…
Almost zero Nintendo exclusives to the console have been on sale and those that rarely do are so insignificant in discount…
The third party games like your Assassin's Creed, Doom,Witcher or whatever are largely much more cheaper on other platforms too…
Going forward its pretty much an Indie console with games too demanding to even run on it without issues with fidelity and performance

      • +1

        Well I'll be a fool x 7 times then.

        Yes.

which has sold 100 million units in 5 years?

A lot more idiots in the world then that

If Nintendo does indeed launch a Switch Pro this year, it’s going to happen with the release of the new Zelda game. I’m tempted by the Switch OLED, but will be waiting this out.

    • Hmm though would it come that quick?

      Original Switch - March 2017
      Oled Switch - October 2020

      • +4

They have also released the Switch Lite and an overhauled version of the original Switch.

It might even be that the OLED was meant to be the Switch Pro but that they couldn’t source all the required parts due to the ongoing semiconductor crisis.

I can personally wait for truly next-gen stuff like 4K support. More competent 1080p (docked) and 720p (handheld) support would be nice though. Like performance of the Switch in BOTW is pretty bad in some places. And that was even a launch title.

        • -2

For the record I'm waiting on the Switch Pro and I wish it happened last year. Have a Series X so the Switch isn't necessary, would just be a nice to have

          • @spackbace: 3 yrs they might get the chip act together .
With all the dough saved on subscription free movies I'm sure you will be right :)

      • +3

OLED Switch came out in 2021, not 2020. There’s zero chance of another hardware revision this year; maybe a Zelda skinned OLED or Lite model but that would be it.

        • Woop you're correct, my bad

      • +1

What about v2 with more efficient battery usage in 2019? Or does that not count.

    • +1

Nintendo is printing money with the switch almost like back in the original DS days. Don’t know why the switch pro would be launching anytime soon and cannibalise the healthy profits I assume they’re already making on the current models.

      • Exactly.

Why risk releasing a new model requiring a newer more powerful chip and risk the supply shortage like the PS5.

They are literally still selling heaps of units at the moment and will be stupid to suddenly stop it.

I don't see a Switch "Pro" anytime soon tbh especially when Nintendo can ride out this wave even longer.

I personally have no issues with the current Switch as I have a tonne of games to get through.

        • Yeah love playing the switch with my 5yo.
I taught him and now he teaches me lol. All in the space of 6 months I've gone to be the student and him the teacher

          • @daft009: What games do u play With a 5yo? I need suggestions!

            • @FicklePickle: Interested to know also

            • @FicklePickle: We started when he about 4.5 in July lockdowns last year with commander keen on an old laptop

Then moved to my old Wii
Super Mario Brothers which is a 2D side scroller, Wii Sports resort
Then onto switch with Mario kart, sonic mania and currently Mario 3d world+Bowser's fury.

          • +1

            @daft009: same situation, 5yo loves:

            Mario Party series
            Mario Kart 8
            Boomerang Fu

and now onto Mario 3D world bowsers fury

            • @vandelay: I've bought party all stars but still in the secret cupboard.

Thanks will hunt out boomerang Fu :)

            • @vandelay: I like how 3d world has a kids mode (white suit) if you die trying the 1 level 4-5 times.

        • My only “issue” is that the current Switch doesn’t hit the 720p/1080p target in many games or falls short of 30 fps. Even first party titles are affected by this. Another welcome upgrade would be HDR support, which the Switch doesn’t currently have. That’s a particularly glaring omission with the OLED model. It would be great to have all of this fixed with some moderately upgraded SoC. I don’t personally need the Switch to support 4K gaming, but they would probably throw in some form of 4K upscaling for modern TVs.

      • +1

The Switch Pro would be a mid-gen upgrade, not a new console generation. It would play existing Switch titles and future games would simply support it by offering better graphics. But you’re right: Nintendo may well decide that it doesn’t need the Switch Pro. I’ll guess we will know soon enough.

          Conspiracy theory:

Proposed release date for LoZ:BotW2 - November 2022

Just in time for Christmas 2022. Isn't that the time when new consoles aren't released.

I can't remember where I read that the OLED docks and cable are HDMI 2.0 compliant - meaning 4k & 60 fps?

          • @Donatello: Yeah I've heard the conspiracy that 4k can be added to the Oled model through a firmware update to the dock…something in the form of AI upscaling that outputs 4k to your TV

    • Gameboy 1989
      Gameboy Colour 1998

Part of me wants to see how long they can draw this out!

  • Get JB to price match and buy using TCN 10% gift cards ??

  • +2

OLED doesn't save it. Still regret buying one. Sits on the shelf.

    • +7

Nintendo has one of the best game libraries. Honestly, if none of the stuff that’s available on the Switch excites you, then I suppose gaming is not for you.

      • -1

        100%

      • +4

Or people have preferences? Won one of these at an arcade and the only reason I didn't sell it is because partner preferred it over the playstation. Personally most of the recommended/exclusive games I played on it seemed to be geared towards kids or felt like a chore playing without any purpose (again, personal tastes, not trashing the game or console). Every other title was already available on other platforms with better graphics and lower prices. Also this is coming from someone who's first console was a nes (well a chinese clone of it anyway). I wish I liked the switch but just didn't.

If you actually like nintendo's flagship titles and portability is something important to you then yeah, the switch is a good choice.

      • +3

Do they have Uncharted, The Last of Us and Resident Evil?

      • -2

Garbage. It has a few good games and a bunch of childish crap. I agree this is a good console for children under 10

        • But it has XCOM!

      • -1

We have a Wii to play all the Nintendo classics. We also have an XBox One S and several PCs for real gaming. And on the road we each have a mobile phone.

  • +7

to be honest, i had Switch and PSV, i still think PSV is much better!

    • Especially when you could jailbreak it and run emulation on it I loved my PSV

    • +2

Only problem with the PSV was that it was ahead of its time :(

    • -2

PSV had a grand total of ZERO games to play on it though

    • -1

Yeah who could forget the phoned in lite versions of games like Uncharted:Golden Abyss

  • -2

I've been looking at targeting ( believe me there a mine full of duds in the mix ) certain play to earn games as there huge dough to be made in selling NFT's associated to them .

  • Can we play Roblox on this ?

  • Why people are so crazy after this ?

  • I wish EB could price match. I have a few gift cards from XMAS That I can use at EB :(

    • Why wouldn’t they?

    • EB has priced match for me before but has to be local retailer and in stock.

I had a few games price matched with JB and Big W.

  • ROCKET LEAGUE ftw. What a save!

  • +2

Great screen, shit internals which are the same as the launch model.

Nintendo is so good at getting people to waste their money.

Expensive gimmick but will sell like hotcakes lol

    • -2

It's just like PlayStation..crap hardware but great games you can't play anywhere else

  • +2

Unfortunately no matter how cheap the Switch console hardware is Nintendo will rob you blind with the cost of it's first party game's…

  • yeah I got this when it first came out last year. obviously not selling out like the ps5 or xbox series X but its got a really good screen on it.

    • -1

Selling out isn't a good thing though as people that want it wont be able to get it which means less game sales.

off memory i think Sony sold 15 million PS5 units and Nintendo sold around 20 million Switches.

So technically for 2021 Nintendo has potentially 5 million more people buying new games in addition to the previous sales.

Not sure how many Xbox has sold though.

      • Sony out sold the xbox last year so I would so alot lower.

        • I dont think Xbox has a lot of games that is as appealing compared PS

  • Target are now at $499 too. Tried to price match at HN as have gift cards but they wouldn't as $40 was to far from RRP. What a joke

  • torn between the OLED or wait for the v2 to drop under 400$ in price :(
