How Do I Stop Getting Scam Emails from [email protected]?

As far as I can tell using the mobile Outlook app this appears to be sent from ozbargain.

Is this an issue on my end or something wrong with Ozbargain's email system? I've never encountered something that looks this legitimate (email address wise) from any other website. How do I block this kind of scams but still receive actual emails from Ozbargain?

  • Hotmail / Outlook / Live.com emails have been frustrating, as we've been constantly having issues of

    • Delivering legitimate emails from our own email server
    • Blocking spoofed emails from spammers / scammers originated from other servers

Despite us setting up SPF, DKIM & DMARC properly. Our SPF (v=spf1 mx -all) has already spelt out that FAIL ALL @ozbargain.com.au EMAILS THAT DON'T COME FROM OUR MAIL SERVER but some places (i.e. Hotmail/Outlook) seem to ignore that.

If anyone on Hotmail / Outlook / Live.com receiving a spoofed email from "[email protected]", please

    • Click on the 3-dots menu, View → View message source

      View message source

    • Copy out the headers of the Message source, especially all the "Received" and "Authentication-Results" headers. The example below shows an email I sent from @ozbargain.com.au to my Hotmail account, and both SPF and DKIM should pass.

Message source with SPF & DKIM

    • Send those headers to me at [email protected]

yeah i just got one saying i won $500 from Coles
i forwarded you the message source

  • I think Gmail is better at picking up spam than Outlook. You can always run your Outlook through Gmail to try to pick up these spam mails.

  • that's not 🅿

You have to send Scotty a $10 bank transfer, I'm afraid.

Most likely someone spoofing the email address.

You can run, but cannot hide.

  • Did you actually check the senders email address or that is just email header. Dont get tricked.

    • The top line is the senders "name", the second line is the email address. It's a spoofed email.

I am on hotmail. Unfortunately, they are the worst and don't prevent these junk emails no matter how many times to tag the domain.
