Was looking to buy a good travel router and this one happen to be on discount.

Looks like the price is similar to the earlier deals (discount of $8.44).

Might bring down the price further using the discounted Amazon gift cards.

Not sure if wiregaurd works on this model, if not, just have to go with the OpenVPN

  • I'm looking for something simple a basic router device that will pickup my hotspot and send it to other devices for my friends elder parents they have old school TV and pc that don't recognise the hot spot from my phone, if the router has an Ethernet even better but just something basic and cheap??? Will this work?

    • I know some phones allow you to hotspot on EITHER 2.4Ghz or 5.0Ghz. Is it possible that your phone is hotspotting on 5.0Ghz and the old NICs are only 2.4Ghz?

      • The TV doesn't even pickup any and the computer only uses Ethernet so I want to be able to connect my phone to the router then use Ethernet to pc

        • Ahh ok, sorry misunderstood.

Yes you could USB tether your phone or WISP Repeater your phone and then connect 3 ethernet connected devices ( you could change the WAN to another LAN port)

          • @Limbot: Yes I want the phone to connect to the router via WiFi then to pc by Ethernet

    • I did this with the Mango.
I've also done this with a Raspberry Pi.

Connected to WiFi and connected my laptop via LAN and/or WiFi on another connection.
Was a while ago but there might be more info out there.

I believe the terms you're looking for are "Wifi to ethernet bridge"

edit: This is a blog on the Mango

Once the Mango is connected to the internet (Wifi, USB 4G/5G modem, USB tethering), you can share that connection over LAN (there’s a single port) and WiFi.

      • -1

Yes but can you also WiFi across other devices plus LAN

  • Is this a worthwhile upgrade over the mango? Not sure if the size increas offsets the added features.

    • Dual band WiFi (especially useful when using in WISP mode to preserve bandwidth rather than 1/2 on single band)
      External Antennae
      3 Gigabit Ethernet
      Micro SD slot
      Faster processor
      Faster theoretical VPN (68/17 v 45/11 WG/OpenVPN)

      16MB NOR + 128MB NAND v 16NOR NOR
      <6W vs <2.75W
      100x68x24/110g vs 58x58x25/40g

      Your call :)

      • Hi Limbot, do you know of any upcoming deals on the Beryl?

        Cheers

        • Second this. Looking at the Beryl as well! Thanks!

        • Third this.

        • +1

There will certainly be one, but I can't tell you when :(

    • Craps all over the Mango. I use mine as a repeater for the PS5 at the other end of the house and I’m pushing at least 45mbps on a 50mbps plan

  • so this can do wds?

  • F. Just bought this a day ago from Amazon for $82. :\

    • Contact live chat. They will usually refund the difference.

      • I did contact them, was told "no, sorry".

        • +1

then order another and send back the second boxed one as the first item for full refund. Every time theres been a price drop and I've spoken with Amazon customer assistance I get told they can't price match or do price differences, but I'm polite and eventually they give me Amazong credit for the price difference.

  • Just curious, does anyone actually take one of these when travelling? If so how do you use it?

    • I did at first but kept getting splash pages that I couldn’t log into as you can’t connect until you input splash page details, catch 22

      • You just need to use your phone / laptop to login to the captive portal first. The device clones the mac address, so then all other devices connected to it can connect without the captive portal or "splash page"

        https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/tutorials/connect_to_a_hotspot…

        • Some people use the mini routers as to not connect their own devices up to networks, probably a small amount of people, but still.

    • +1

The way I used one of these previously was on holiday.

      All my devices :
      * Laptop
      * Tablet
      * 4 peoples phones

These are all able to connect to my travel router.

So when I am away and using a different wifi network, of even tether my phone to the router, all my devices then get internet access. As they are connected to my travel router.

Without this, I would have to manually update my 6 devices to be able to get their own internet connection.

      • I need to connect my phone to the router then use Ethernet to PC

    • Travel often with 5 devices and saves logging them all in. Auto VPN and private network on shared wifi.

Also means can get the firestick going immediately and doesn't smash phone data.

  • See some crazy RRP

  • hmm will need to look deeper at the specs but I've been wanting a GOOD firewall / router to sit between my ISP provided piece of rubbish router and my home network..

  • +1

I have this and it’s the business. I have a little travel bag with this and a Firestick. I repeat the wifi connection and all my devices just connect to this. I also have a beryl that I use as a wireguard server so that the slate goes through my home wifi as opposed to public wifi.

    • Any reason for firestick.vs the new Google Chromecast

  • The new chromecast I find can’t be run off the tv usb. Has to be plugged into the wall… it’s the little things lol like that.

    • Lol that's painful. Might have to google that

      • Still use a Gen2 Chromecast with my AR750S when travelling for this exact reason.
