Great headphones. Great price. Contemplating a second pair!!

    • Agreed. This is by far my best tech investment ever. Usually I always have to buy the latest version of things but I’ve been really happy with the XM3 even though there’s the newer generation.

      • +2

Yup only down fall terrible mic for phone conversations

        • Any recommendation with good mic?

          Need to use in teams.

          • +1

@ccj5124: the XM4 works great for calls.

QC35 works great too if you want something cheaper than the XM4 (i actually prefer the QC35 to the XM4 in general)

            • @jaybo: Thanks!
Will wait for a sale now!

              • +1

@ccj5124: It doesn't. the microphone is very bad in my testing for calls. any background noise and the person you are calling will be complaining they cant hear anything. Bose 700 has best microphone so far in any anc headphones I've tried. and thats not saying they're good either. seems that most bluetooth headphones just have trash mics.

            • @jaybo: XM4 does not support atpx

          • +1

@ccj5124: Any pair of bluetooth headphones with an attachable microphone.

I have been using this headphone for listening and the Webcam as Microphone.

If Microphone audio quality is vital and you can claim it back on Tax, I recommend buying a dedicated microphone, for example the Blue Yeti.
It is good enough for any video conferencing and will be enough for any Youtube Video you may decided to do :-)

          • @ccj5124: XM4 is brilliant with mic. Never any complaints when I use for phone calls.

    • Are they better than the Bose ones that get posted on OZB?

      • +1

XM4 version I'd say is better than the Bose. XM3 is still very good.

      • +1

Yes. The Bose ones use battery even when plugged in (these ones don't) and mine died after only 2 years.
IMO these ones are also more comfortable over a longer period of time as well.

      • +1

The QC45 are the closest competitor, ended up going with the xm4. Seems like it has better build quality. Looked at tonnes of videos, articles, testing data etc. I think you'll be happy with either choice though.

There's also an AKG model that's also in the same realm but half the price (n700) but I don't like how it looks, plus reviewers say it is tighter than the others. Which is a pro or con depending on your persepctive and head size.

      • Thanks all for the comments. Ordered one.

    • Might have to get a pair for the wife…

me reading : Might have to get a pair of wife

        excited already

My XM2 is still going strong. Daily use for Teams calls and gaming. Highly recommended product.

Get similar deal recently and it has battery issue, can't be recharge. Need to go through chat to get replacement instead of refund. New unit was good

First unit was shipped from Perth and about 7 days. Replacement unit was shipped from Moore bank and received in 3 days

Grabbed these when they were $199 in the Amazon Black Friday deal. They are amazing headphones for the price.

  • +1

How do these compare to the XM4? I've read reviews that say both version has pros/cons over the other… Wondering if the 3's are the best option for 4he price, or am I better off holding out for a good deal on the 4's?

    • 4 you can do multi point connection unlike the 3s

I bought the XM4 refurb from Sony eBay. Definitely recommended.

      • Haha that was my next question: what are people's experiences with the reburbs! I've seen mixed reports but good to hear you've had a positive experience.

        • +1

XM4 in particular, 3 x I ordered have all looked like brand new. Only the outside packaging had some stickers, and don't look brand new.

If you took the headset (Which comes in a carrying case with cables) and gave it to someone, no one could tell they are refurbs.

          • @aveeno bb: Likely they are just returns

            • @MikeKulls: I think usually they've been returned due to a fault or issue though. This fault has then been rectified then it's relisted as a refurb. Eg: Sony eBay

          • @aveeno bb: Awesome, good to know! Will keep an eye out for these for sure, I know there are often discounts on the refurbs :)

            • @bdo207: Yes, and there is a reason why they are so popular!

      • +1

Bought refurb XM4 on eBay…Sony was kind enough to send a brand new one.

  • +1

Thanks, was looking for a pair of these just the other day

  • Ok for gaming? looking as a gift for a family member.

    • Mate they are great phones. You won't be disappointed.

    • for casual such as singleplayer, non competitive shooters. they will be fine.

however if you play anything competitive and rely on accurate imaging (csgo, valorant, pubg), these are pretty terrible.

    • Delays due to buffering can be an issue with Bluetooth. I bought a pair of cheaper headphones and they worked fine in every respect except they had about a 0.1s delay. That was enough to make it really noticeable

      • Yeah I returned the previous Bose I bought (?QC30?) because the audio lags lip sync issues with YouTube drove me crazy.

You can get it at 69.99 at Tozo. Just as good but maybe sound quality slightly less.

    • +4

      What on earth is tozo

  • how much better is the ANC on the XM4?

    • +2

      if xm3 is 80/100 (hypothetically), xm4 is 85-90/100. Not a big margin

  • I use these headphones for on the go bluetooth and as a headset for the pc. It comes with a 1.3 m audio cable that can be pluged in the front of the computer. It doesn't need to be turned on when used but it helps with extra amp. Good headphone to use, I got mine for 2 years with barely any wear. The only damage is some flaking of the inner ear cushions

  • Does anyone have any comparisons to the Bose Qc 1?

  • +1

Anyone else have issues with odor on the ear cushions?

The recent summer heat has imbued the pair I own with the smell of a gym mat, any ideas for deodorizing

  • These have a well known design flaw of hinges breaking. Google it - its an issue worldwide and Sony refuses to cover them even within warranty period. They are amazing headphones and this is a good price but after 2 pairs breaking within 12 months of having them, I'm going Bose 700 next time.

  • Looking for Bluetooth headphones, just to hear music and watching movies. Doesn't care about mic quality. Earbuds aren't my thing.
Sony or Bose ? Recommendations please.

  • Ordered with thanks, my Bose is dying.

  • Anyone used them on a long flight? If anyone even remembers what a long flight is :-)

Comfort for 5-6 hours? Noise cancelling ability?

    • +1

5-6 hours is not considered as a long flight. Just to put it in perspective. SYD-HKG is about 8 hours. Long flights are 12 hrs- 16 hrs.

      • Maybe they will take them off for a moment… maybe eat a can of tuna with peanuts and a beer… look out the window and complain about someone's seat being too far back, then put them back on for another 5-6 hours…. then repeat 2 further times, constituting a long flight.

    • Don't have my XM4 yet, heard some people complain of being uncomfortable after an hour but it's also very subjective (head size, perception, temperature will affect it). I think no matter what choice you go with, they will heat up.

Only my open backed headphones can be worn for super long without heating up as much. I could be wrong, but this is probably true for all closed back headphones.

    • Yeah they are solid for a long flight - just used them for a 5 hour flight and the sound cancelling is great.
