Price guarantee.. if you find a cheaper price "on the same day"…

    • We will beat it by 5%.

Somewhat ambiguous wording - does this mean:
      a) you have until the end of the day to find a lower fare after you've booked, or
      b) the lower fare you find just has to be on the same day as the flight you've booked?

      • I did this with their previous system a few times which was the price fare promise or something. Same concept, they refunded you the difference and then gave you 1000 points. This looks better as they are not only refunding the difference but also refunding beyond that to a percentage.

How it worked last time is you had to take a screenshot of the said fare available on the other website ensuring your clock was in the shot as well. This seems stupid as you can just change the date/time. But it's what they asked for and it worked for me a few times.

For me it's worth it because this way in I get the best price but still able to book direct. Less (profanity) around if I want to change booking details.

        • That might have been the case before covid but if you need to call Qantas which I've done a few times, the wait times have been horrendous - hours of waiting! I haven't bothered calling for one of my cancelled flights to get a proper refund because of that.

It might be worth palming that work off to someone like a flight Centre rep

        • is there a link or email where you can request this partial refund?

    • 'tis very good - can now speculatively book flights, hotels, and cars without having to worry about the order you commit to things.

      • Entertain yourself during Omicron times by speculatively booking a 40-person tour, talking about it all day, then using your power of cancellation just before bed. Thanks Qantas!

    • +5

They probably still win from this as they will most likely sit on your cash for a few weeks before they get around to processing it.. "something something unprecedented demand"

      • +2

That's the best case scenario. If there is a problem with refund, you might well find having to call the call centre and wait for several hours to get hold of an agent, assuming the call don't get disconnected first.

From today, Qantas Frequent Flyer members can cancel their flight bookings without charge within 24 hours of making a booking.

With covid going around we need free change within 24hr of departure and not booking !

    • +4

Unless it's changed, Qantas offer unlimited time changes up until even hours before departure, as long as you don't check in.

      • +4

The real deal is always in the comments

      • Only until April 22 for domestic - these new changes are after that I suspect:

Qantas operated Australian domestic flight between 21 May 2020 and 30 April 2022, for travel between 12 June 2020 and 30 April 2022.

    • +3

      Agreed. Useless announcement from Qantas.

After taking so much taxpayer money, they can do better.

Good luck if you need to call them as well. The billions of government subsidies we have paid for clearly haven't gone into improving service delivery.

  • +11

Qantas will still hold on to your money for 3 months before refunding it back to you.

    • +2

Yep still waiting… even getting through to cancel took me 3 days haha 😂 what a joke

    • +1

Better than Cebu Pacific, took them over a year to refund mine.

      • +1

I remember I could only get a refund from them if I went to their office in Manilla airport. It was also their fault as they delayed my flight by 2 days so would have missed the next leg off my holidays - just managed sort the refund between flights. Horrible customer service.

  • Since when did they charge for seat selection on international flights?

    • About a decade for some exit row and bulkhead seats.

      • +1

Pretty sure you had to pay for selecting non-premium seats too.

      • I'm sure you still will have to pay for those seats considering they have more leg room (when they become available again, right now all exit rows on Q international flights are reserved for staff to rest).

Got me excited about 24 hour cancellation… If it was departure..

    It isn't.

  • +5

What a bargain! Free cancellation within 24 hours! (Of making a booking)

    • -7

Yeah it’d be soooo much better if they didn’t offer any cancellation at all.

  • +2

Qantas official refund timeframe is 8 weeks and that's from the date you submit your request for refund. Their call centre average holding time is about half a day.

    • Just called them today. Got connected within first 5 minutes. Called them around 9 am today.

      • +1

        BULLLL…SHEEP!

      • +1

It's just pot luck. I've had to call them a few times this week about changes to my flights, and wait times were 4 hours, 15 minutes and 1 hour.

        • Try calling early morning. Hopefully you'll get connected.

          • +1

            @Crustydumpling: This.

Wait times during normal hours are utterly unacceptable for a major business (and they were bad long before COVID), but are naturally much shorter or even non-existent between roughly midnight to 6am. Not convenient but at least you can usually get through quickly.

The best and worst times to call Qantas, Virgin Australia

            • @UrMumsOnlyFan: I got what you are saying. Wait times were bad during peak covid. But I just explained my experience today. Maybe I got lucky or maybe they have got more staff onboard. Don't know.

      • What tier frequent flyer?

      • Quick… buy a lotto ticket as well

  • +2

Can’t see a deal here. More like a PSA.

  • +2

Not a deal in the slightest. Most airlines have had modified booking and cancellation policies throughout the past 2 years - we don't need to post them all on a Bargain site.

Plus Qantas customer service is absolutely horrific as others have mentioned.

  • +3

junk post / free advert to Qantas - sorry OP

cancellation on suppliers behalf with a refund should be normal business practice - so this aint a bargain

  • +2

These look like features that should have been introduced a few years back. Surprised it took them this long but really not a deal especially the free QFF membership. You could look online and find many ways to get it for free

  • +2

Sounds a bit useless, not often you make a booking and then cancel within24hrs unless you made a mistake

    • Yep, free cancellation within 24hrs is really just an improvement of Same day no mistake.

If you've made an error while making your booking, we'll waive the service and change fees associated with correcting mistakes, including:

      • The spelling of your name
      • Time, day or month of your flight
      • To and/or from destination
      • Swap gateways (eg. if you accidentally book London to Sydney, instead of Sydney to London)
      • Fare type or cabin
  • +2

    This a feature not a bargain….

Attempts to contact Qantas this week:

    4 hours on hold
    8 hours on hold
2 hours on hold…spoke to rep.

    Good luck.

Emirates allows free date changes if due to Covid… What about this mob?

    • I think Qantas allows a few months date adjustment for domestic flights.

      • +1

With these policies they won't be able to survive in the new world with Covid….

  • +4

Not a deal, should be the norm nowadays.

Run by a globalist who stripped money from the Australian taxpayer and sacked unjabbed loyal employees.
    (profanity) QANTAS.

  • Qantas CS = Googe Pixel "Hold for me"

    • I never really regretted ditching pixel until that feature was released.

  • Palindromic vote at the time of comment! 21 plus, 12 neg. Will need 10 extra plus if one more neg to keep it.

  • Thanks but no thanks Joyce

Booked BRI-SFO in October for March and so far FIVE changes of flights due to Qantas cancellations, all to the tune of about a WEEK cumulatively waiting for some one to answer the phone, in the latest go around the call back option went AWOL!! Aaaggh ..😡 !!

  • Good deal to get the Qantas lounge passes via credit cards that require a Qantas spend to activate

    • I can confirm this method works
